1975 Dodge Dart Swinger, 2-door, 318 V-8, Automatic on 2040-cars
Lakewood, California, United States

1975 Dodge Dart Swinger, 2 door. 318 V-8, Auto trans, 8 1/4 rear with 2.45 gears. Power steering, power disc brakes. Completely rebuilt front suspension. Car is nice.
Car is pre-smog. No smog checks needed ever so you can modify anything you want under the hood. This car drives really nice and I would drive it anywhere and have driven it everywhere. 300 mile round trips from Lakewood, CA. to Tehachapi and back with no problems. 250 mile round trip to Santa Barbara and back with zero problems. Countless trips to Hemet to visit family with zero defects. This is a great driving car. Under the hood is a V-8, 318-2 barrell with electronic ignition. Engine is completely stock. Did an oil change about a month ago with 20w50 oil. Runs perfect. Carb has been professionally rebuilt and works great. Choke on 2 barrell carb works perfect on cold mornings. Car idles and runs great. Automatic transmission. Just had transmission serviced with new filter and fluid and adjusted the bands about 2 months ago. The 8 1/4 rear with 2.45 gears is like having an overdrive. Car cruises at 75mph on the freeway all day long at low rpm because of rear gear ratio. Car has power steering and power disc brakes that work great. The front suspension has been completely rebuilt and aligned. The heater works great. Blows very hot. All gauges work. All lights work. Wipers work. Everything works. Car has new carpet and new seats front and rear. Upholstery is new on all seats. Door panels and armrests are in great shape. I converted the car from a white and brown interior to an all black interior with new kick panels and door uppers too and it looks really good. Even has a new dash pad in it. I added a Pioneer stereo, AM/FM with CD player and plug in for ipod to play through. Plus 4 new Speakers, 6 x 9's in rear and 5 inch speakers in front. Has 15 inch Crager wheels with very good tires. 2 1/4 inch dual exhaust with Thrush mufflers. Not loud at all but you won't mistake it for a slant six either. Car sounds nice like a cruiser should. Entire trunk has been sprayed with Rhino Liner truck bed liner to protect it from rust. The trunk is very solid. All in all this is a great car. It could use a repaint. It was painted 7 years ago and has been outside it's whole life, but the body is really straight and it would be easy work. I am only selling the car because my wife wants a car with A/C before this summer gets here and this car will be my down payment once I sell it. I really hate to part with it because it is such a good driving car but I have to. Hopefully someone will buy it and take good care of it and enjoy it as much as I have. Please send me a message if you have any questions, Mike. |

2015 Dodge Challenger looks fresh, still plenty retro [w/video]
Thu, 17 Apr 2014It was the Ford Mustang that kicked off the retro-styled muscle car renaissance back in 2005, but it was the Dodge Challenger that served as the movement's poster child, with its unabashedly retro looks. Over the years, though, as the Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro were freshened and upgraded, the look of the big Dodge has remained largely consistent since its 2008 debut. For 2015, the Challenger has received a big freshening, boasting strongly revised front and rear ends and (finally, finally, finally) a redesigned interior.
Let's talk about that new cabin first. It's basically been plucked directly from the redesigned Charger, and boasts the same seven-inch IP display. The center stack's miserable, last-gen display has been replaced by an expansive, 8.4-inch UConnect system. Material quality should see a solid boost with the new cabin, as well.
The exterior, meanwhile, sees a revised front fascia with LED halo lights, as well as new grille inserts. A functional shaker hood scoop is a must-have extra on the V8 models, while the back of the car is highlighted by a new set of LED taillights that don't use the "Racetrack" design of Dodge's other models.
Dodge Viper returning to Le Mans this year?
Mon, Jan 5 2015If you were among the fans disappointed by Chrysler's recent decision to end the Dodge Viper's racing program, we may have some good news for you, as the racing outfit behind the campaign is reportedly working to bring the American supercars back to Le Mans this year. That racing outfit is Riley Technologies, a constructor perhaps best known for its Daytona Prototypes, but it has also prepared its share of GT racers, too. Chrysler charged Riley with leading its racing program for the new Viper GTS-R, campaigned it in the United SportsCar Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Auburn Hills made the unfortunate decision back in March to pull its Vipers out of Le Mans, and then in October to withdraw from the US series, as well, thereby effectively ending the program altogether. Disappointed though it surely was, Riley remains defiant. The North Carolina-based company is planning on taking the existing Vipers back to Le Mans on its own, with or without factory support. The Viper has, after all, proven a capable machine, having taken both the drivers' and teams' titles in the United SportsCar Championship this past season. "With Le Mans, every driver and every manufacturer needs to have their first trip there, and it isn't always what you want it to be, but we did show reliability and did have some pace," Bill Riley told Racer.com. "Since then, we've worked hard on the cars, they're now strong, front-running cars in the US, and we're working with the ACO on the BoP to make sure the cars are strong at Le Mans. They're super-reliable and fast, and we'd expect to be right in the mix with the other cars." Riley has kept the existing support staff in place, and once it secures its driver lineup and sponsors, chances look good that it could represent America well at Le Mans this year in either the GTE Pro or GTE Am class. Its predecessor did, after all, complete a three-year winning streak that saw it dominate the GTS class right up until its withdrawal in 2000. Cold start comparison: 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio vs. 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8
Thu, May 7 2020The 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is a five-seat, compact luxury sport sedan packing 505 horsepower thanks to a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6. My personal 2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 is ... well ... not. It's a full-sized muscle coupe whose iron-block 6.4-liter V8 makes 470 hp in the very traditional way: it's freakin' huge, like everything else about the car. On paper, these two have nothing in common beyond the fact that they were built by the same multi-national manufacturing entity. But if paper were the be-all and end-all of automotive rankings, everybody would buy the same car. And we don't, especially as enthusiasts. Whether it's looks or tuning or vague "intangibles" or something as simple as the way a car sounds, we often put a priority on the things that trigger our emotions rather than setting out to simply buy whatever the "best" car is at that particular moment. So, what do these two have in common? They both sound really, really good. Like looks, sounds are subjective. While a rubric most assuredly exists in the world of marketing (attraction is as much a science as any other human response), we have no way of objectively scoring the beauty of either of these cars, and the same applies to the qualities of the sound waves being emitted through their tail pipes. But we can measure how loud they are. In fact, there's even an app for that. Dozens, as it turns out. So, I picked one at random that recorded peak loudness levels, and set off to conduct an entirely pointless and only vaguely scientific experiment with the two cars that happened to be in my garage at the same time. For the test, I opened up a window and cracked the garage door (so as not to inflict carbon monoxide poisoning upon myself in the name of discovery), and then placed my phone on a tripod behind the center of each car's trunk lid. I fired each one up and let the app do the rest. I then placed my GoPro on top of the trunk for each test so that I could review the video afterward for any anomalies. I started with the Challenger. The 6.4-liter Hemi under the hood of this big coupe is essentially the same lump found under the hood of quite a few Ram pickups, and it has the accessories to prove it. Its starter is loud and distinctive. Almost as loud, it turns out, as the exhaust itself. As its loud pew-pew faded behind the V8's barking cold start, we recorded a peak of 83.7 decibels. In the app's judgment, that's roughly the equivalent of a busy street.
