1970 Dodge Charger – The Fast and the Furious

Buy it, show it, race it, add a blower to it.  It’s up to you… but first you have to win it.

It’s almost laughable when you see the prices that 68-70 Chargers are going for when they need attention all over and the sellers are pitching their vehicles as big block cars because they dropped a 90,000+ mile 440 out of a 1976 RV into a shell that still needs full quarters/trunk pans/floor pans/etc.  They hit it with a dozen cans of rustoleum primer and demand over $20,000, knowing full well that you’ll spend more than double just trying to correct everything...  This is not one of those cars.  This car just won ‘BEST OF SHOW’ and ‘BEST MOPAR’ at New England Dragway last weekend.

-NON-Vinyl car –Leave the vinyl on your grandparents Oldsmobile

-Black on Black –Fully painted undercarriage/interior (floor, etc)

-$9,000+ in new receipts (NOT including the brand new 440/machine work)

-1968 (DESIRABLE YEAR) 440 longblock fully machined/rebuilt .030 over/906 heads/upgraded cam – under 300 miles on rebuild. ZERO LEAKS! And I mean ZERO.  I won’t tolerate it on my garage floor.

-727 automatic transmission –upgraded to Manual Valve body to work with Fast5 gated shifter

-8 3/4 ” rear axle with 4.10 SureGrip –2 wheel burnouts all day long if desired.

-MOVIE CORRECT SEATS –Custom built in Los Angeles to exact movie specs.  Custom seat brackets and sliders fabricated to allow adjustability/bolt-in assembly

-MOVIE CORRECT SHIFTER –Custom built in Pennsylvania to exact movie specs.  Custom shifter brackets created to exact movie specs and installed in exact movie locations.

-MOVIE CORRECT WHEELS –Custom built in Utah to exact movie specs/offsets/finish/dimensions.

-MOVIE CORRECT TIRES –Exact movie size/dimensions/specs.  They were difficult to track down as well.

-MOVIE CORRECT GRILLE –Painted to replicate the original Vin Diesel wheelstand car.  Original grille, not a single crack/broken tab/repair!

-MOVIE CORRECT EXHAUST –Turndown exhaust exiting before the rear axle as on the movie cars.  Dynomax Bullet Race mufflers used with an H-pipe and a full 3” system pushing from longtube drag racing headers.

This car has been modeled after the various iterations of the 1970 Dodge Charger portrayed in the Fast and Furious films, including the upcoming Fast 7.  It is mainly modeled after the version seen at the end of Fast4/beginning of Fast5 (prison bus takeover).  You can’t drive anywhere with this car without constant jaw drops, thumbs up and pictures being taken.  1969 General Lee cars are a dime a dozen.  When have you ever seen Vin Diesel’s car in the flesh?

Just SOME of the parts recently installed:

-BeCool Direct-fit radiator with Electric fans and overflow tank

-ARP complete stainless steel 12-pt head decorative bolt set for 440 engine

-Schumacher Creative Services 440 torque strap

-Mancini Racing aluminum water pump housing and hi-flow water pump

-Mancini Racing HEMI oil pan and pickup tube

-Moroso thermostat

-B&M plate style transmission cooler w/ Teflon-braided stainless steel lines and –AN fittings

-Quality Power MEGA 150 amp alternator.  Billet aluminum case, 1-wire alternator (internally regulated).  Major overkill but it removed the ugly ballast resistors/ecu garbage from the firewall and can easily handle anything electrical thrown at it without bogging (fans, MSD, fuel pump, electric choke, stereo, lights, etc).

-MSD Pro-Billet distributor, tuned with proper advance weights/springs for full advance by 2,400rpm

-MSD DIGITAL 6AL controller with built-in REV-Limiter.  No more annoying rev limit chipsets. The new digital box has dials under the faceplate to adjust in seconds.  Also has a single waterproof disconnect plug as opposed to the standard 6AL’s that had wires stuck hanging out of them

-MSD Blaster SS coil, best option available. Can be mounted in any direction.

-MSD 8.5mm wireset

-Holley Blue series electric fuel pump and regulator with AN fittings and braided stainless steel lines to carb fuel rail/pressure gauge/inline filter/check valve setup.

-Holley Street Dominator intake manifold

-Holley Ultra 750 Double Pumper carburetor w/ electric choke and glass sight plugs.  All polished aluminum with black anodized metering blocks

-Moroso PCV oil separator catch can with drain valve to keep vented oil out of the intake.

-DEI Titanium exhaust header wrap to reduce temps near valve cover gasket/maintain a leakproof engine

-New 727 oil seals throughout transmission to ensure dry garage floor

-New carpet/floor mats

-Sony Xplod CD player and Pioneer 6x9 speakers. Not that you’ll ever need to use them.

-SIMPSON 3” race harness lap belts

-Subframe connectors

-New trunk mounted battery in new deluxe enclosed/vented battery box

-New oil pressure and coolant temperature sensors (electric)

-New Rear Bumper from YearOne

-New forward light harness from YearOne

-New engine bay harness from YearOne

-Custom 1-off  wiring for 1-wire alternator, electric fans (with inline fuses and temp switch), MSD ignition system, Holley electric choke, ground strap, etc.  Each component has waterproof disconnects for easy individual component service/removal from the main harness.  Fusable links utilized where appropriate.

-Ron Francis wire harness covers

-Ammeter bypass –bypassed the bulkhead connector with upgraded wiring for use with the heavily upgraded electrical system.  For use with Voltmeters as the old ammeter setup is garbage.  The car deserved modern wiring and not old, antiquated wiring that could cause a fire.

-3-speed wiper motor? WORKS.

-Headlight door motor? WORKS.

-Data plate? HAS IT.

-Build sheet? Yes and No.  Came with Build Sheet under the rear seat in excellent condition but from a different VIN Charger.  I've read that this is quite common due to assembly line errors.

Tremendous amounts of work, money and attention to detail have been put into this car.  And unlike the movie cars, it doesn't run on a small block Chevy!

Shipping: Car ships WORLDWIDE!  Some of the biggest American Muscle fans in the world aren’t in America. It’s a fact.  I’m more than flexible with assisting with shipping logistics.  Car is road ready and can be picked up and driven home if you live in the area.

Payment:  Non-Refundable $1,000 deposit due within 48 hours of auction close or you forfeit the purchase and I will be forced to relist the car and report you to ebay.  I’ve never had a bad transaction on ebay but we’ve all heard the stories of “non-paying bidders”.  The Full remaining amount is due within 7 calendar days of auction close.   Car will not leave my possession until money is CLEARED in my account.  Do not bring a money order and expect to drive it home as it’s not realistic with today’s fraud attempts.  BANK WIRE TRANSFERS PREFERRED!

No warranty expressed or implied- there are Hyundai’s for that.  I have done my best to accurately describe this vehicle.  Inspections and appraisals are welcome before auction end!

Good luck and Happy Bidding! Please message me with any questions!

2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat has 707 glorious horsepower [w/video]

Tue, 01 Jul 2014

Hold onto your butts. "600-plus horsepower" is what we were told to expect from the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT with its 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcat V8 engine. But as we've just learned, those were incredibly conservative numbers. Dodge has officially announced that the range-topping Challenger will hit the asphalt with 707 - seven hundred and seven - horsepower, making it the "most powerful muscle car ever."
Of course, 707 hp is only part of the story, as the Hellcat has also been confirmed to produce 650 pound-feet of torque. All that power will run exclusively to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission that differs from other Challengers. The new gearbox, 8HP90 (rather than the 8HP70) is "upgraded to handle the extra power and torque," says Dan Reid, SRT's manager of product design and motorsports.
We certainly hope you're prepared to spend a ton of money replacing tires.

8 things you learn while driving a cop car [w/videos]

Tue, Jan 27 2015

Let me start off with the obvious: it is absolutely illegal to impersonate a police officer. And now that that's out of the way, I'd just like to say that driving a cop car is really, really cool. Here's the background to this story: Dodge unveiled its redesigned 2015 Charger Pursuit police cruiser, and kindly allowed Autoblog to test it. That meant fellow senior editor Seyth Miersma and I would spend a week with the cop car, and the goal here was to see just how different the behind-the-wheel experience is, from a civilian's point of view. After all, it's not technically a police car – it isn't affiliated with any city, it doesn't say "police" anywhere on it, and it's been fitted with buzzkill-worthy "NOT IN SERVICE" magnets (easily removed for photos, of course). But that meant nothing. As Seyth and I found out after our week of testing, most people can't tell the difference, and the Charger Pursuit commands all the same reactions as any normal cop car would on the road. Here are a few things we noticed during our time as wannabe cops. 1. You Drive In A Bubble On The Highway Forget for a moment that our cruiser was liveried with Dodge markings instead of those of the highway patrol. Ignore the large "NOT IN SERVICE" signs adhered around the car. Something in the lizard brain of just about every licensed driver tells them to hold back when they see any hint of a cop car, or just the silhouette of a light bar on a marked sedan. Hence, when driving on the highway, and especially when one already has some distance from cars forward and aft, a sort of bubble of fear starts to open up around you. Cars just ahead seem very reluctant to pass one another or change lanes much, while those behind wait to move up on you until there's a full herd movement to do so. The effect isn't perfect – which is probably ascribable to the aforementioned giveaways that I'm not really a cop – but it did occur on several occasions during commutes from the office. 2. You Drive In A Pack In The City My commute home from the Autoblog office normally takes anywhere from 25 to 30 minutes, and it's a straight shot down Woodward Avenue from Detroit's north suburbs into the city, where I live. Traffic usually moves at a steady pace, the Michigan-spec "five-over" speed.

Dodge bringing revamped Challenger, Charger to Big Apple

Mon, 07 Apr 2014

The 2014 New York Auto Show will be a big one for Dodge, as the brand has announced that refreshed versions of the 2015 Challenger and 2015 Charger will debut at the show. This is a particularly big deal for the two-door Challenger which, visually, has remained unchanged since is burst back onto the scene in 2008 and helped reignite the muscle car wars.
As a sort of hint, this announcement was accompanied by the picture you see above - the Super Bee logo in the Challenger's new instrument cluster. According to Dodge, the New York debut of a new "powertrain combination" - possibly with the high-output Hellcat V8 - will leave enthusiasts "abuzz."
As for the Charger, Dodge is promising a full redesign that should be a significant departure from the blunt, angry looks of the current model. At this point, there's no indication that the Challenger's new powertrain could be fitted to the Charger, although considering how mechanically similar these two vehicles have been, it doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility.
