Rare 1968 Dodge Charger 1 Of 902 Built Slant 6/auto Mopar Project Dukes Hazzard on 2040-cars
Jackson, Mississippi, United States
Before I am asked... No, there is not a Buy it Now price. If you are interested in the car, please bid what you are willing to pay. The auction will run the full 7 days and will not end until Sunday evening (12-15-13). Thank you for understanding.
Now... Up for auction is your chance to own a very rare 1968 Dodge Charger. This isn't your regular run-of-the-mill Charger... this car is one of only 902 built in 1968 with a 225 cubic inch slant six engine and an automatic transmission. Originally, this car was white with a black vinyl top and red interior. I saved this car from someone who had plans of "fixing it up one day"... when in reality, the car would have just sat in their yard and it would have gone downhill from there. The original slant six and automatic transmission are not in the car and the previous owner did not have it either. From what I heard, the car was up and running just fine until the late 90's when it ran hot and was parked. The engine was pulled for overhaul... the owner never got around to it and decided to sell it. The previous owner bought the car with the intensions to drop a V8 in it... and never did. That is when I purchased the car. The car is actually in pretty nice shape! It has your typical B-body rust issues here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary. The reddish-orange paint job is "amateur" best. It does not look like much (if any) body work was done before the paint was applied. It even has a few cat paw prints here and there... haha. From what I can tell, all of the original body panels are still on the car and it has never been wrecked. The grille looks very nice with just a couple stress cracks on the surround. I do not see any missing sections on the grille, which is nearly impossible! It even has the '68-only bezel surrounding the bulbs which are commonly missing. The doors, hood, and trunk lid open and close fine. As I mentioned... this car has typical B-body rust in the lower quarters, trunk floor, trunk extensions, rear valance, one rocker panel and a couple small flaky soft spots in the floor. All four frame rails and torsion bar crossmember look to be very solid though!! Surprisingly, the rear glass area looks to be very solid... which if you've looked at Chargers, you know this spot usually goes first. The roof has a small spot right above the rear glass and it will need some attention as well as the seams on the sail panels. Every panel has it's fair share of minor dents and dings... but like I said, it has never been wrecked. This car was a daily driver for 30 years. It's amazing that it is still in good shape. Drive it as is or restore it back to show quality. The interior will need to be replaced but is mostly intact. The cluster shows it's age and displays 944 miles. I'm sure this is actually 100,944 miles. The seats are not original to the car and I'm not sure what they came out of. The buckets are currently not bolted in, but were at one time. There is no headliner in the car, but most of the bows are in the trunk. The glass looks decent but the windshield will need to be replaced. The engine bay looks very solid with the exception of the battery tray. The car originally had power steering, manual drum brakes, non-A/C, and a 2 speed windshield wiper motor. The original slant six K-frame and swap bar is still in the car. The car also still has its original 8 1/4 rear end. The grille and all of it's components are still intact. The headlight doors are not frozen and will open and close by hand. I do not have a driveshaft for the car. All four wheels roll fine but two of the tires will only hold air for a few hours. I can air up the tires when it is time to pick up the car, but if you decide to pull this car on a two wheel dolly, I would strongly recommend bringing a good pair of wheels and tires. The fender tag and VIN plate are still on the car and I have a CLEAR MISSISSIPPI TITLE that is ready to be signed over to the new owner. The fender tag decodes as followed: XP29: Dodge Charger 2 Door Sports Hardtop 21: 225cid Slant Six Engine 5: 3-Speed Automatic Transmission 33: 7.35x14 Tires 325: March 25, 1968 Build Date AX2: 2.94 Rear Axle Ratio TRM C6R: Charger Trim Grade, Vinyl Bucket Seats. Red Interior. PNY WW1: Monotone White Paint. UBS R: Burgundy Metallic Upper Door Frame Color. MOLDINGS: 25: Drip Rail Mouldings 30: Body Belt Mouldings 78: Wheel Lip Mouldings ABC OPTIONS: R1: AM Radio Y6: Black Vinyl Top abc OPTIONS: b4: Bucket Seats This would make a GREAT Christmas present for someone who has always been wanting a Dodge Charger! It would also be a great start to building a Dukes of Hazzard General Lee replica (It looks like it was heading that way anyways). But if you are like me, I would love to see it restored back to original with a correct slant six... and put it back white, w/ a black top, and red interior... but that's just me. I'm kind of a purist for rare and unusual Mopars! :) The sky is the limit. ALL BIDDERS, PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: ** SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY!!!!!!! ** If you do not have money to buy the car... or if you have no intensions to even pay for the car, please do not bid. I WILL turn you in to eBay as a non-paying bidder. ** I am very easy to work with but I ask that you pay for the car IN FULL within 10 days after the auction has ended. I have room on my property, so if you need extra time to schedule deliver/pick up, I am perfectly fine with that... as long as the car is paid for in full. I will not charge a storage fee. ** A $500 non-refundable deposit is due within 3 days after the auction has ended. I will accept Paypal or payment through the mail for the deposit. I will not accept Paypal for the remaining balance unless you do not mind paying the 3% fee that I will be charged. ** All payments must be paid in full and must clear my bank before I will release the vehicle for delivery. ** Please to not show up on a Sunday afternoon and expect to pick up the car with a handwritten personal check. That will not work. Feel free to contact me with with any questions. Thank you for looking at my auction!! |

Is your new-car warranty good at the race track?
Mon, Feb 27 2017We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." Whether or not Ol' Henry would pay to fix your Model T if you broke it shaving a tenth off your lap time at the local board track seems to be lost to history. We're guessing no. But what about today? Do new-car warranties in 2017 cover cars when they are driven on race tracks? We researched the warranties of 14 auto brands to find out, and the answer is yes, no, maybe, depending on the brand, in some cases the model, and whether or not your car is modified from stock. Acura has been out of the high-performance car game for a number of years, but jumps back into the party in 2017 with its hybrid-powered $173,000 NSX supercar. And Acura's warranty, as well as Honda's, clearly states that it does not cover "the use of the vehicle in competition or racing events." View 33 Photos So we asked Sage Marie, Senior Manager of Public Relations for Honda and Acura. "If the car is stock, the warranty covers it on a track just as it does on the street. No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme. Chevrolet actually started this practice with the fifth-generation Camaro on the high-performance ZL1 and Z/28 models.
Mopar '15 performance kit now available for Dodge Charger R/T
Tue, Jun 9 2015Dodge is releasing a new Mopar performance kit for the 2015 Charger R/T sedan, offering up just 50 examples of the dealer-installed upgrade package. Only a select few dealers will sell the kit, and they'll do so at a price of $3,550. As per usual, the Mopar kit makes both performance and aesthetic changes. For the 5.7-liter Hemi V8, upgrades include the Stage 1 Scat Pack kit, which adds a cat-back exhaust and cold-air intake, good for 18 additional horsepower and 18 more pound-feet of torque. There's also a new strut tower brace and a "premium fuel powertrain control module." Aesthetic changes are remarkably simple, with matte black body-side decals being the only notable addition to the exterior. In the cabin, there's a serialized dash plaque and new door sill plates. This is the sixth Mopar special edition since 2009. If you wish to join this fairly exclusive fraternity of Dodge owners, dealers are currently accepting orders, with deliveries slated to start later this month. Scroll down for the official press release from Dodge.
