I'm selling my 1973 Charger. I will be moving soon and could put it in storage but would much rather sell it to someone who can use and appreciate it. I bought it in 2001 out of a field in AZ that it had been sitting in since the mid 80s. It was a white on white 400 ci automatic car with a blue roof and red stripe down the side. Over the years I've had it, everything has been gone over at least once. As you can see from the pictures, the desert sun has taken a toll since it was painted in 2005, and it could use a new paint job. Besides that, it runs great, it starts every time and has zero drips. The rack and pinion also really helps move around a car of this size. The engine has about 3000 miles on it and on a recent trip from Houston to tucson, it got about 20mpg. Please email with questions, as I know I'm missing some details in the description, there is just too much to list.

Some details of the car:

Fiberglass hood and ‘six pack’ scoop

Fiberglass bumpers and bumper supports

Nice shape white vinyl interior (new in 2006)

Custom grill (looks a little like barracuda grill)

71 charger taillights

71 charger headlights

Custom intake with  K&N filter hidden behind headlights

Custom dash from 2008 charger including custom gauges, TV, and vintage air air conditioning system

5.7 hemi from 2005 Chrysler 300 with 5000 miles (entire cooling system and all accessories are from 2005 Chrysler 300 and have been replaced with new components in 2012)

5 speed automatic with overdrive from 2004 dodge ram (Hurst shifter)

2004 dodge ram ECU and custom built wiring harness

Painless wiring harness throughout car

Rack and pinion from 2005 Nissan maxima

Push button start

Cragar chrome 15’’ wheels staggered 8’’wide in rear, 7 in front

BFG white letter tires with plenty of tread

New fuel system including custom tank for fuel injected engine

Flowmaster 40 exhaust system (sounds great)

Polished aluminum components on engine

Metallic blue paint (needs repainting and minor body work)

Optima dry cell battery in trunk

8 3/4 rear end with 4.11 gears (posi-traction also but the posi unit needs rebuilt)

New windshield

Electric life electric windows

Q: So, how did you get the 2008 charger dash in there, and did you have to do any cutting or perm. changes to the interior of the car to make that happen? Do you have the original dash still? Oh, same with the center console. I really couldn't see very well from the pics you had included. Thanks for the help.Aug-20-14
A: The dash actually fit side to side without modification, I did have to cut several inches from the rear, which is covered by the dash cover. The entire metal structure of the 2008 dash is behind it. It was necessary to either do this or a complete custom fiberglass dash in order for the modern steering column, massive amounts of wiring, ecu, electronic gauges, a/c controls, air conditioning system, and TV to fit (the 73 dash was way too small). I also like the console, it is really practical with the cup holders, turn signals-two buttons for on/off by your hand when rested on the arm rest, iPhone/usb cables, and 12v power outlets. Overall everything works really well and looks good but I would say the console and dash should be upholstered by a shop in order to cover all the seams and imperfections to make it really show car quality. I sold the 73 dash when I removed it, considering how much work it would be to ever re-install the old dash with all the new tech. I can post more pics today, thanks for the interest.

The Grand Caravan, at least the name, isn't dead yet in Canada

Mon, Jul 20 2020

Last week we got Stellantis. This week, we’re learning that the Grand Caravan name isnÂ’t actually dead. ItÂ’s just moved to Canada. Allow us to explain. The Dodge Grand Caravan is well and truly gone. However, FCA has decided the name is too good not to use. Therefore, FCA Canada just announced that Canadians will get the Chrysler Grand Caravan for the 2021 model year. One look at the photos will tell you most everything you need to know about the van. ItÂ’s a rebadged Chrysler Voyager, which itself is a budget Chrysler Pacifica by a different name. Basically, the U.S. gets the Voyager, and Canada gets the Grand Caravan. “WeÂ’re incredibly proud to maintain the ‘Grand CaravanÂ’ nameplate exclusively in the Canadian marketplace,” said David Buckingham, President and CEO, FCA Canada. “Particularly here in Canada, that name has become synonymous with affordable, safe and innovative family transportation that the 2021 Chrysler Grand Caravan builds upon.” Now that the Voyager and Caravan are the same again, the next logical step would be to bring back Plymouth, right? Rebadged Plymouth Hellcats wouldnÂ’t bother us. Just Â… you know, an idea. Canadian customers will have the choice of two trims for the Grand Caravan: Base and SXT. Similar to the U.S., upper trim levels of the van will be called Pacifica. The two will be sold alongside each other at Chrysler dealerships. Photos of the Pacifica with the Grand Caravan badge already have us a little weirded out, but now youÂ’ll know whatÂ’s going on during your next trip up north when you see a Chrysler Grand Caravan roll by. Junkyard Gem: 1977 Dodge Colt Mileage Maker Coupe

Sat, Dec 11 2021

While Ford and GM each had the resources to develop their own Michigan-designed subcompacts for the dawn of the 1970s— the Pinto and Vega, respectively— Chrysler couldn't afford the huge price tag for such a project. Instead, Chrysler's European operations were tapped for a couple of models that sold well enough on the other side of the Atlantic, giving us the Plymouth Cricket (known as the Hillman Avenger in the UK) and the Simca 1204 (aka the Simca 1100 in France). American car shoppers gave those two models the cold shoulder, but then Chrysler found genuine sales success by making a deal with Mitsubishi to sell the Colt Galant with left-hand drive. This became the Dodge Colt, with sales beginning in the 1971 model year. Though the 1971-1978 rear-wheel-drive Colts were once as commonplace as Corollas or B210s on American roads, they have all but disappeared today. That makes today's Junkyard Find, discovered in a Denver-area yard last week, particularly interesting. This car shows signs of having been in the hands of a speed-crazed enthusiast owner, including an aftermarket steering wheel and one-piece racing seats with slots for five-point harnesses. The primer-gray paint is another clue. The rear-wheel-drive Colts were reasonably quick for their time, and they could be made genuinely quick with basic engine upgrades. This Mitsubishi Saturn four-banger has a tube header, hot-rod ignition system, and a two-barrel (Mikuni-made) Solex carburetor. We can assume there's probably some kind of cam upgrade under the valve cover, too. The shifter is gone, but the original transmission in this car was either the base four-speed or optional five-speed manual. A three-speed automatic was available for $270 (about $1,275 today). Later on, front-wheel-drive Colts (and Mitsubishi Mirages) could be bought with the Twin-Stick overdrive rig, which gave drivers eight forward speeds and the opportunity to make Twin-Stick beer taps. The 1977-1978 Dodge Colt two- and four-door sedans were based on the Mitsubishi Lancer and were a bit smaller than the 1971-1977 cars, while the wagon version moved to the Galant Sigma platform. The build tag shows that this car started life as the cheapest 1977 Colt model, the "Mileage Maker" two-door sedan (Dodge dealers called it a coupe, so that's what I'm calling it in the title).

Stellantis and Foxconn's new joint venture will focus on connectivity

Wed, May 19 2021

MILAN — Carmaker Stellantis and TaiwanÂ’s Foxconn announced plans to develop a jointly operated automotive supplier focusing on technology to make vehicles more connected, including artificial intelligence-based applications and 5G communications. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said the services that will be developed through the tie-up “will mark the next great evolution of our industry,” alongside fully electrified and hybrid powertrains. The deal brings together Stellantis, the worldÂ’s 4th-largest automaker formed this year by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Peugeot, and Foxconn, a major supplier of iPhones. The companies said the venture would focus on such services as infotainment, the integration of telecommunications and computer systems, artificial intelligence-based applications, 5G communications, e-commerce channels and smart cockpit integration. The companies announced a non-binding memorandum of understanding to form a 50-50 joint venture called Mobile Drive, which will be based in the Netherlands and function as an automotive supplier also to other carmakers. The new venture will combine advanced consumer electronics, Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) to create new services “that will exceed customer expectations,” the companies said in a release. “Customers today and, in the future, demand and expect ever-increasing software-driven and creative solutions to connect the drivers and passengers with the vehicle inside and out,Â’Â’ Foxconn Chairman Young Liu.
