PLEASE ALLOW ALL THE PICTURES (150 +) FOLLOWING THE TEXT TO LOAD - BELIEVE ME IT'LL BE WORTH THE WAIT!! VintageCarsOnline is extremely proud to present one of the most documented and publicized ’69 Dodge Daytona’s ever to be made available. 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona – a little history lesson… The 1969 Dodge Daytona and its sibling,
the 1970 Plymouth Super Bird, are arguably the most radical vehicles to emerge
from the muscle car wars. But the Daytona, as the name might suggest, was built
to win NASCAR’s Superspeedways—the longest and fastest tracks. Little-Known Fact: The Daytona's aerodynamic modifications over those
of a standard Charger helped lower the coefficient of drag to 0.28—an excellent
figure even by today's standards. But did that huge rear wing really need to be
so tall to maximize rear-end down force? According to legend; NO. The reason
for the exaggerated height of the wing was so that the trunk lid on the
production cars could pass underneath it when open. In order to race the Daytona in NASCAR, Dodge had to sell 500 units to the public. Priced at $4,000, the production Daytona’s were available with either the 440/4v or the 426/8v Hemi. Daytona’s, however, weighed almost 300 pounds more than regular Chargers with the same engines, and thus their performance on the street suffered when compared to the lighter R/T’s. But on the high-banked tracks of the NASCAR circuit, they were unstoppable. Capable of 220 mph in race trim, the Daytona would be highly successful in NASCAR racing. It was very expensive to produce, and only 503 were manufactured (not including Canadian export figures). DETAILS ABOUT THE CAR WE HAVE HERE….. This car is equipped with ITS ORIGINAL,
#’S MATCHING, BORN WITH – 440/4V 375-horse power engine, THE ORIGINAL Hemi
4-Speed transmission, and THE ORIGINAL Dana-60 rear-end! This beautiful R4 Red
B-Body includes a black Daytona stripe with corresponding black bucket seat
interior. The owner has added an ORIGINAL set of Kelsey Hayes’ famous “recall”

In October of 1991 MOPAR MUSCLE published an article entitled “DOCUMENT YOUR MOPAR” in which this car was used as reference, pics are below showing the numbers and date codes stamped on this very car. The article was written by Galen Govier and Greg Rager.
Just a “few” of the many MAGAZINE APPEARANCES: OCT 1991 MOPAR MUSCLE RUNS THE NOW INFAMOUS “DOCUMENT YOUR MOPAR” ARTICLE. THE CAR IS NEVER SEEN BUT THIS DAYTONA IS THE CAR THAT IS USED TO DEMONSTRATE HOW ONE WOULD DOCUMENT THEIR MOPAR VIA CASTING CODES, STAMPINGS, TAGS, VIN STAMPING LOCATIONS AS WELL AS FENDER TAG DECODING. ONE COULD SAY THIS ARTICLE STARTED THE DOCUMENTATION CRAZE SINGLE HANDIDLY THIS DAYTONA IS THE REFERENCE CAR FOR THAT ARTICLE! SEP 1993 MUSCLECAR REVIEW RUNS A “MOPAR MANIA” ISSUE WITH A THREE WING CAR CENTERFOLD. ONE CAR IS THIS DAYTONA. THIS IS FOLLOWED UP WITH TEXT ON THE INDIVIDUAL CARS. OCT 1993 MOPAR

JAN 2007 HEMMINGS MOTOR NEWS RUNS A FEATURE ON THE CWJ CLASSIC AUTOMOBILE MUSEUM AND FEATURES THE DAYTONA IN THE ARTICLE ALONG WITH THE 1966 CHEVELLE, 1969 GTO AND THE 1968 SHELBY GT500 CONVERTIBLE. TWO MORE ACCOLADES THAT IS WORTH MENTIONING ABOUT THIS DAYTONA… JOHNNY LIGHTNING – the 1:64 die cast car #23 “Mopar or No
Car” is THIS CAR! This is a very sought after die cast
toy and are always being sold on eBay etc. – HOW COOL IS THAT!!! The other accomplishment is being included in MOTHER MOPAR’S
OWN Magazine! Muscle Essentials – the Mopar Performance Bible and parts catalog! Let’s dig into the car’s
current condition: The car has been restored twice, once in 1991, and again more correctly in 1998. Prior to that, while under Mr. Burley’s ownership the car was painted but he did not touch the engine bay, trunk, interior or undercarriage – he also changed the wing and stripe color to white. Under Judge Andrew’s ownership the car had its first extensive resto - $53,000 in receipts came with the car when Paul had purchased it. During 1991-1998 the car had been driven approximately 1,000 miles. Once Paul got the car up to NJ the arduous task to get the car factory “correct” began. With the help of some very good and knowledgeable friends the car has become what you see here – simply incredible. This car is as correct as it can be – many, many months were spent searching for the right parts (i.e. the scissor jack for the front of the car - @#$%@!) for the restoration. The only “incorrect” part is the hood as it is from a 1970 Charger donor car as the original Daytona hood was rusted beyond use as they
often are. Since being finished in 1999 the car has been a very enjoyable and
driven piece of Mopar history. The odometer currently shows 46,911 miles and they are
absolutely correct, the mileage may change once the weather gets better! Exterior: The paint on this car is approaching 15 years old and still
shows really, really nice. No dings or
scratches anywhere. The paint looks as good in person as it does in the
pictures. The bumpers are original to the car (re-chromed, of course). I
challenge you to find another Daytona that has the headlight doors as perfectly
aligned as they are on this car. The car is very straight and presents
extremely well. During the restorations both quarter panels, the front
driver-side inner fender well, and a portion of the floor pan was replaced – again using actual Dodge panels – no reproduction metal in this car! The radiator
support stamping matches the VIN, as does the trunk.
The owner has an extra nose cone grille (NOS and unbent),
along with other very rare parts that can be bought along with the car – look
for those to be listed separately (NOS WING’s, brake parts, drums, wheels,
etc.) Exhaust: Original manifolds going to factory “hemi” mufflers and out the
B-body tips. Exhaust is in good shape, no rattles or leaks.
Interior: The interior has been restored with new seat covers and foam,
new door panels and water shields, new rear shelf, and more. The center console (including the door) is all original. The seat trim is perfect along
with the seat backs. The kick panels are perfect. The front seats track and work flawlessly. The headliner was replaced, and the seat belts were fully
restored down to the chrome. All seat belts are there and very original (as
dates will show). New door rubber and windlaces. New lower door weather stripping.
Window weather stripping is believed to be original. The dash has been redone
and is perfect. The dash pad is in great shape with no cracks. Even the original
Hurst shift handle was re-chromed. Also
the heater core and the entire heater box were completely restored to prevent
against unwanted anti-freeze getting into the interior. Trim: The chrome and stainless trim on the car is original and shows very
well. The stainless is in really nice shape, with no blemishes and the coveted
front wheelwell moldings are intact and on the car. The molding around the
wheel wells is perfect. The side marker lights are working and in great shape. Overall
the car’s bright work is very nice. Brakes: The brakes were completely redone during the ’99 restoration. The
front disc brakes are brand new with the original rotors, calipers rebuilt, all
new bearings, seals, hoses, dust caps, master cylinder, booster and pads – all
were addressed. The rear drums were also completely redone with brand new
drums, pads and a full hardware kit on both sides. The brake parts were
provided by Mopar - NOS. The car stops very smoothly and dead straight. They
feel great! Engine: 440-375hp/480lb ft of torque - the engine serial number matches the
car’s VIN number. I will be happy to let the buyer check as well. The engine
has been rebuilt and a Glen Ray radiator has been installed to allow the car to
cruise at 175 degrees. Worry not, the
original radiator is tucked away and comes with the car. All the engine brackets, air cleaner assembly, accessories, etc. are correctly plated and painted with original colors. With
proper care this engine should last another 50 years or more. The carburetor
has been professionally restored and remanufactured along with a second
distributor as the owner installed a Pertronix electronic ignition module (again,
don’t worry, the original dual point is tucked away and unmolested) for ease of
operation of the car. Only the best of
judges can figure out that the ignition system is electronic and Pertronix
never had a conversion kit for the Chrysler dual point distributor, the prototype is in this car!
Transmission: The #’s
matching and indestructible “Hemi” four-speed; Chrysler’s 18-spline A833 with a 2.66
first gear, and Hurst Shifter. Only 139 440 Daytona’s were Rear Differential: Being that this car is an original
4-speed with the A33 code, Dodge put 3.54 gears in the Sure-Grip-equipped Dana 60
9.75” rear
axle. Keep in mind that 3/4 -ton and 1-ton pickups from the 60’s through the 80’s used
the Dana 60 axle
for its
beefiness, so you’ll have to work hard to break one of these bad boys! Tires / Wheels: As stated before this car is running the 15” Kelsey-Hayes code
W23 “Recall” wheels with Coker Redline Radials. The original 14” road wheels and Coker bias ply redline tires are included.
Lights / Misc: Inside and outside lights all work fine. Windshield wipers work,
although the car is never in the rain, so it probably needs new refills. The
original spare is in the trunk, along with all the correct jacks and associated
hardware. THANK YOU! This car is 100% sorted out and ready to enjoy. While it may be considered a trailer queen to some it can carry its own weight and be driven hard if you want to. Drive it anywhere with
confidence. No disappointments. No surprises. No BS. You won't find a nicer,
matching #, 4-Spd Daytona, that’s this well documented for under $200k – this
is WELL under that mark. NOT DRIVING YOUR CAR IS LIKE SAVING YOUR WIFE FOR THE NEXT GUY!! Our standard disclaimer: Being that this is a 45 year old car; NO warranty is stated, expressed or implied. The car is Sold as-is, where-is. While I've been as detailed as possible with my description, a Pre-Purchase is inspection strongly encouraged. Pictures do NOT do this car justice; she really needs to be seen in person. Please review
payment terms prior to submitting your bid. The car is for sale through other
outlets, so this listing may be ended at any time. If you want to make an offer – We can be reached at (617)513-7407 At Vintage Cars Online, LLC. - We're car people, we love what we do, and you'll feel it from the first time you talk to us. We appreciate you giving us the

FCA's shifter fiasco proves novel gear selectors are a bad idea
Tue, Feb 9 2016What's wrong with PRNDL? Why are automakers trying to overly complicate the simple task of selecting gears? If there's any lesson to learn from the recent news that NHTSA is investigating 853,000 Fiat Chrysler vehicles over its problematic gear selectors, it's that the trend of fancy shifters needs to stop. Now. Last year, NHTSA opened an investigation into Jeep Grand Cherokee models, and has now expanded this probe to include the 2012-14 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger. The problem? The shifter – assembled by ZF – is confusing for many drivers. "Testing ... indicates that operation of the (electronic) shifter is not intuitive and provides poor tactile and visual feedback to the driver, increasing the potential for unintended gear selection," a NHTSA document states. More than 100 crashes and over a dozen injuries are linked to this problem, according to The Detroit Free Press. To us, the problem isn't just limited to FCA. These unnecessarily novel gear selectors are spreading like wildfire across the industry. Honda and Acura use a weird pushbutton setup. Lincolns have buttons on the dashboard. Jaguar's shifter electronically raises out of the center console. Mercedes uses a stalk with up-for-Reverse, down-for-Drive, push-for-Neutral arrangement. And what the hell is BMW thinking with its M cars? FCA has since abandoned the confusing shifters in question. The 300, Charger, and Grand Cherokee now use the rotary shift dial that's quickly proliferating across the company's brands. Simplistic gear selectors might not be sexy, but no one ever complained about not being able to find the right gear in a Hyundai Sonata. What's most interesting is that this NHTSA investigation could push FCA – and possibly other automakers – to redesign vehicle functions that otherwise operate as designed. Just because most people will never have a problem putting a Dodge Charger in Reverse doesn't mean there isn't a flaw with the design. But perhaps a more simplistic solution – good ol' PRNDL – would have prevented these issues from the start. Mopar Hellephant crate engine sells out in 48 hours
Sun, May 5 2019This happened so quickly that we're only just catching up with it. Mopar opened pre-orders on the 7.0-liter Hellephant Hemi crate engine on April 26, which is Hemi Day. According to Allpar, hubbub on social media not long after that day claimed Mopar had gone through all of its Hellephant stock. When Allpar asked Fiat Chrysler for clarification, a spokesperson e-mailed, "Given the high demand and the hand-built, time-intensive build process, we have closed preordering for the 426 Hellephant Supercharged HEMI crate engine. Based on preorders, the engine sold out in just two days. Customers can visit www.cratehemi.com to receive future information and updates on the 'Hellephant' engine." No one is certain how many engines Mopar sold. Allpar wrote, "Industry insiders believe Mopar may be making around 100," but reiterated that it's a guess. The engine and the ordering process have their peculiarities. Mopar Insiders explained that Tool Engineering International helped create the 426-cubic-inch block, and that the Hellephant engine "shares nothing except for displacement with the rumored upcoming 7.0-liter 426 Hemi V8." On the Hellcat.org forum, a poster wrote that the engines "can only be sold through a dealer and that the dealers can only order 1 engine per week." The Hellephant doesn't come with Mopar's three-year, 100,000-mile warranty, either. During a press briefing last October, FCA officials said they weren't sure about offering any warranty. Based on the motor being given a part number starting with the letter P, there is a bit of protection, but it's a 90-day limited warranty covering "defects in materials or wokmanship," and only applies to engines not used in competition. For those who didn't get the opportunity to drop $29,995 for 1,000 horsepower and 950 pound-feet of torque, the best bet is to hope for the return of Apollyon's pachyderm. Motor1 wrote that "Rumors hint at... another limited run scheduled for next year due to overwhelming demand." That's thin thread to hang a Hellephant from, but it beats bupkis.
Dodge Challenger Hellcat driver arrested hellbound at 160 mph
Fri, Mar 23 2018When fisherman catch big fish, they want the world to know about it. That's approximately how the Indiana State Police felt when they busted a 707-horsepower muscle car booking it at more than 160 miles per hour. The ISP were chuffed enough about the catch that they put out a press release titled, "160 Mile Per Hour Hellcat Tamed On The Indiana Toll Road." The Dodge Challenger Hellcat driver, J. Jesus Duran Sandoval, told the arresting officer that he was "just trying to get to Maryland." The incident began just after Trooper Dustin Eggert finished helping a stranded motorist on the toll road at about 7 p.m. Eggert was merging back into traffic when he saw the Hellcat blast past at well beyond the 70-mph speed limit, allegedly weaving through traffic and — shock! — not using a turn signal for lane changes. With a Bandit on his hands, Eggert took the role of Smokey, and just like Burt Reynolds movies, couldn't catch the offender. Seems that Indiana State Police Dodge Charger Pursuit vehicles are speed limited to 150 mph, allowing the Hellcat to pull away. Eggert radioed for officers ahead to look out for the red baron, but received an assist before other LEOs swooped in: Eggert caught up to the Hellcat 11 miles down the road when the red coupe got held up behind two semis driving next to one another on the two-lane toll road. Sandoval pulled over, admitted he was doing a little more than 160 mph, then delivered The "Maryland" Defense unfazed by the fact that Maryland was more than 500 miles from his location. Turns out that 38-year-old Sandoval, from Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, was also unbothered by driving on an expired license. The coppers took Sandoval to the LaPorte County Jail and booked him on reckless driving, bond set at $505, court date set for April 2. The ISP said this is the second time in two weeks they've busted someone doing more than 130 on the Indiana Toll Road. It's the second time in a year they've busted a Hellcat doing so — in April 2017, another pilot played Bat out of Hellcat at 158 mph, explaining his speed as a bit of show-and-tell for his friends in the car.
