Chrysler recalling 31k SUVs and vans
Fri, 06 Jun 2014Chrysler is issuing recalls covering roughly 31,700 vehicles worldwide due to two separate problems. In both cases the company believes that most of the affected vehicles are either still on, or in transit to, dealer lots.
One recall covers roughly 10,700 Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SRT models from the 2014 model year built between January 16 and April 17, 2014. The SUVs need a software update for the cruise control. It's possible that when the cruise is on and the driver presses on the throttle, the acceleration could last a second after the pedal is released or two seconds for the SRT. Afterward, they return to the speed originally set by the driver.
Chrysler says it isn't aware of any accidents, injuries or even reported incidents of this happening in the real world. Also, in all cases, if the driver presses on the brake, the cruise shuts off. The automaker believes that there are about 6,100 affected SUVs in the US, 950 in Canada, 425 in Mexico and 3,200 outside of North America. The software upgrade will be ready shortly, the company says.
Is Mopar readying a special-edition Dart for Chicago?
Sat, 26 Jan 2013Chrysler has released the above teaser of a limited-edition Mopar 2013 model that will be unveiled at next month's Chicago Auto Show. Although the automaker doesn't announce what vehicle will get the Mopar treatment, closer investigation of the seats and center console suggest that this car will be a special version of the 2013 Dodge Dart.
This will be the fourth Mopar model in as many years, following on the heels of the Mopar 2010 Challenger, Mopar 2011 Charger and the Mopar '2012 300. There are no details for the Mopar '13 Dart, but we do see that the car will retain the signature black-and-blue color scheme as past Mopar editions. Like these previous models, we expect production of Mopar '13 Dart to be limited to just 500 units.
Scroll down for Chrysler's press release teasing the new Mopar model, and we'll be sure to bring you plenty of live images from the show floor in a couple weeks.
Dodge Demon exorcised by Rhys Millen in new video
Tue, Aug 15 2017When you call your car something like the Demon, it provides plenty of opportunity to play around with the name ͗ especially when said car has 840 horsepower directed to the rear wheels. Pennzoil is doing just that in the above video, called "Exorcising the Demon." In it, Rhys Millen tears up the streets of Pittsburgh at night in a black and yellow Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, smoking tires, popping wheelies and breaking the rear end loose in massive drifts around corners. He even pulls a pretty hairy 360. It's certainly a lot different sort of driving from the straight-line drag-strip experience for which the Dodge Demon was purpose-built. At the end of the video, Millen parks the car below a gargoyle, whose eyes briefly glow a menacing red. Millen sends a text message saying "The Demon is back in its place." The response: "Das good. How are you in the Ring?" (Hmm.) Then the clip ends, and we're told the story will be continued. If you don't want to wait for more cinematic Demon action, you can check out Pennzoil's behind-the-scenes video, called, "Unleashing Unprecedented Power." In it, we get to see more angles of the stunt driving, hear about the production, and, of course, get a plug for Pennzoil: This content is hosted by a third party. Pennzoil also offers a few other Dodge Demon videos, one about the car's development, one about its performance, and a third focused on Pennzoil Synthetics. Earlier this year, Pennzoil also did a similar video series to bid farewell to the Dodge Viper.
