This is a breath-taking car that draws admiring stares. Not a scratch or ding: show quality. It looks just like the day I drove it home from the dealer. Loaded with every option. Lovingly maintained & never driven in rain or snow. I drove an identical Chrysler-owned car at a race track. The SRT8 is an amazing beast, with true race technology throughout. My Details: Always garaged, Like-new condition, Factory GPS system, Fully loaded with all the goodies, Never seen snow, One owner, Satellite radio, Title in hand. Chrysler Details: The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 coupe comes with a 6.1L Hemi pushrod V8 engine that makes an impressive 425 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. This year, a five-speed automatic with AutoStick manual control was the only transmission offered. The rather wide, mid-sized Challenger has a back bench seat officially large enough for three, and with the long doors access is better than many coupes. Its trunk, at more than 16 cubic feet, is comparable to that of mid-size sedans.A four-wheel independent suspension underpins the Challenger, providing a smooth ride and crisp, capable handling. Front and rear stabilizer bars are standard, along with Bilstein monotube gas shocks, while big Brembo brakes--four-piston, front and back--provide impressive stopping power. Big 20-inch wheels are standard, mounted with four-season tires; Goodyear F1 Supercar three-season tires are available. Carbon-fiber-style hood stripes are part of the SRT8's paint scheme. The Challenger SRT8, according to Dodge, accelerates to 60 mph in the low five-second range, does the quarter-mile in less than 14 seconds, and get from a standstill to 100 mph and back in less than 17 seconds. Equally impressive, it's able to stop from 60 mph in about 100 feet.Nearly all the expected luxury and convenience features, including heated leather-trimmed seats and Kicker high-performance speakers, are standard on the Challenger.

2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat is getting a facelift
Tue, May 8 2018The Challenger Hellcat won't be the only Mopar muscle car getting an update for the new model year. One of our spy photographers caught an updated 2019 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat testing near the SRT office. It appears that the car will continue on mostly unchanged, since everything behind the fenders is uncovered and unchanged. But the fascia must be getting some noteworthy changes considering how well it's hidden. And it's really, really well-hidden. It's extremely difficult to see through this covering. Whatever changes have been made still aren't going to be massive. It looks like the basics remain the same, including the large center grille in the bumper flanked by two outboard inlets that lack fog lights. The grille appears to still connect with the headlights, and the grille is pinched in the middle. Odds are, the front fascia is the only major difference on the 2019 Charger Hellcat, just as the twin-scoop hood on the Challenger Hellcat is the only major difference on that model. Under the hood will likely be the same 707-horsepower supercharged V8. This Charger prototype also sports the same Brembo brakes as the current model. The full reveal will probably come this summer along with the Challenger. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Chrysler recalling 644k more Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs over brakes
Wed, 02 Apr 2014Early last month, we reported on Chrysler issuing a preemptive, proactive recall for about 25,000 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. The issue revolved around a brake system that wasn't causing any actual problems, but delivered an unsatisfactory brake feel, so Auburn Hills called in a good 25,000 of SUVs around the world, including 18,700 in the United States.
Now Chrysler, having apparently determined that the brake problem on its sport utes is actually much bigger than it initially realized, has drastically broadened the scope of the recall. As a result, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for precisely 655,354 examples of the Grand Cherokee and Durango, covering the 2011 through 2014 model years. In addition, Chrysler is recalling 42,380 units in Canada, 21,376 in Mexico and 159,685 overseas.
The problem which Chrysler found revolves around the brake booster, whose center shell has been found to be subject to corrosion, allowing water to get into the brake system. That water in turn could freeze, preventing the brakes from working as well as expected.
Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year
Tue, 22 Jan 2013Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.
