71 Challenger 340 Convertible.  This car is a great driver that you can take anywhere and it is enjoyable to drive.  I have the original Numbers matching 340 currently sitting on an engine stand, it runs great! The only reason I took it out was because I took the car on the Power Tour and I did not want to worry about anything happening to the original engine.  The engine that is currently in the car is a 70 340 that is bored .040 over and built to stock 70 specs with Powerjection III fuel injection setup on a Weiand Stealth intake.  It has stock manifolds and TTI 2 1/2" Xpipe exhaust with Dynomax VT mufflers.  It has working factory air conditioning that has been retrofitted with R-134a.  The original radiator has been redone as a 4 core so even when you sit for hours in traffic in 100+ weather with the AC on there are no overheating issues.

When I bought the car it didn't have the original 727 with it so I took it out and replaced it with a Keisler automatic overdrive.  The transmission works perfectly and even has a switch for an A and B calibration, one has smooth shifts and the other has much more firm shifting and higher shift points.  With the original 3.55 sure-grip and 275/60/15 rear tires overdrive cruising at 70 mph is 2100 rpm and gets 20+ mpg.

The Steering box and pump were rebuilt by Firm Feel to there stage 2 setup, this summer I replaced all 4 shocks with KYB Gas-A-Just shocks, all new ball joints, tie rod ends, and had it aligned.  It has the HD Rear suspension with both front and rear factory sway bars.  Power brakes with front disc and rear drum, I just put on new front pads and calipers and turned the rotors and the rears have new shoes and freshly turned drums.

The factory color was GA4 Light Gunmetal with black side stripes.  The spoilers on the car are original take offs from a Challenger TA, and the side scoops are original pot metal pieces from a RT.  This is an older restoration, while it still looks good it has a few places where it is beginning to show its age.  The seam behind the doors where the rockers meet the quarters is starting to swell up underneath the paint and I have noticed a few small bubbles on the lower area of the drivers door starting to show up.  Also there is the typical E Body convertible crack in the panel in front of the trunk by the hinges.  I know the floor pan has a patch in the drivers footwell and behind the passenger seat, also there is a patch in the trunk.  The lower rear quarters were replaced when they painted the car, you can see the seam from inside the trunk.

The interior still has the original 3 speaker dash which is in great condition with just one very small crack at the corner of the center speaker.  The seats are all in really nice condition and I believe that they may be the original seat covers also.  It has Rallye Gauges that have been updated with the solid state voltage limiter, electronic tach board, and quartz clock from Real Time Engineering.

If you are interested in the car with the Original Numbers matching engine and a 727 transmission instead of the A41 and Fuel Injected 340 let me know and we should be able to work something out.  Thanks for looking and let me know if you have any questions! Car is sold as is. Buyer is responsible for shipping, I am willing to assist with loading. If possible, I recommend viewing the car in person and please ask any questions before bidding. The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early.

Georgia sheriff buys Dodge Charger Hellcat, and the feds want a refund

Sat, Jul 21 2018

A sheriffs office in Georgia recently purchased a new 2018 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. It's currently being used and driven by Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway. Now the U.S. Department of Justice wants its money back. All $70,000 of it. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the DOJ described the purchase as extravagant. The purchase was originally approved by the DOJ, with the money coming from asset forfeitures. The government has since questioned whether the car is being used for its intended and stated purpose — undercover and covert operations as well as the Gwinnett County Beat the Heat program. The Beat the Heat program is a nonprofit meant to "to educate drivers about the dangers of distracted driving and illegal street racing" by holding drag nights at local tracks. The Hellcat — along with a 1996 Chevy Impala SS, a 1990 Chevy Corvette and 2004 Volkswagen GLI — are all featured on the Beat the Heat website. All but the Hellcat are privately owned and funded. The DOJ prohibits the use of taxpayer money for "extravagant expenditures" and says the "the vehicle in question is a high-performance vehicle not typically purchased as part of a traditional fleet of law enforcement vehicles." The sheriff's office defended the purchase, stating that Sheriff Conway uses it to commute and "when he participates in field operations, covert and otherwise, with our deputies" and that "Conway maintains that this vehicle is an appropriate purchase, especially for an agency with a $92 million budget and the opportunity this vehicle provides in making our roadways safer." The DOJ has given the sheriff's department until July 31 to repay the money. Gwinnett County intends to comply with the reimbursement. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Tesla Model S P85D shows 707-hp Dodge Challenger Hellcat how to drag race

Thu, Jan 22 2015

Street Car Drags hosted a bang-up event at the Palm Beach International Raceway last weekend, with a list of massive horsepower ICE cars going up against one another and a trio of Tesla Model S P85Ds. One of those duels pitted the 691-horsepower Tesla against a 707-horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, and the result was an old-school beatdown and a world record for electric cars. The Model S P85D ran the quarter in 11.6 seconds at 114.6 miles per hour, the new mark for BEVs at the drag strip. Proving its pace, it ran three more times in 11.69, 11.72 and 11.76 seconds. It got from the start line to 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds. The Hellcat, well, it wasn't a race, really. It was the Hellcat's driver's first time at a drag strip and his first time trying to launch it, so after an excellent burnout ahead of the lights, he rolled to the line, almost jumped the start, balked at the real start and spun his tires for the first 100 feet down the strip. The theory is that he overheated his street tires during that burnout, and the resulting greasy rubber did what greasy rubber does. By the time he got to the other end 17.46 seconds later the Tesla driver had showered and was enjoying a funnel cake. When things go right, though, Dodge estimates the Hellcat will do 11.2-second runs on street tires and it has been clocked at 10.85 seconds at 126.18 mph on street-legal drag radials. There's video of the not-quite-a-race above, and Drag Times says there'll be a rematch between the two in a couple of weeks. Hackers stole Jeeps in Texas using FCA's internal dealer software

Fri, Aug 5 2016

This article has been updated with details on how the thefts were carried out, and with comments from FCA. It seems the news regarding vehicle hacking continues to get worse, especially when it comes to products from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Last year, a Jeep Cherokee in St. Louis, Missouri, was wirelessly hacked from Pittsburgh. Nissan had to shut down its Leaf app because of vulnerabilities. Now, a pair of hackers in Houston, Texas, stole more than 30 Jeeps over a six-month period. The two were arrested by police last Friday while attempting to steal another vehicle. ABC 13 in Houston reports that police had been following Michael Arcee and Jesse Zelay for several months but were unable to catch them in the act until now. The two were using a laptop to connect to and start a vehicle. The thieves were able to access Fiat Chrysler's own DealerCONNECT software. After entering the vehicle identification number, the hackers were able to reprogram the cars' security systems to accept a generic key, according to The Houston Chronicle. Additionally, Automotive News reports that FCA subsequently updated the terms of use for its DealerCONNECT program. These thefts were not related to the UConnect remote hacks from last year. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. In April, this surveillance video showed the theft of a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. It was this footage that first led the police to Arcee and Zelay. The police began to follow and record the pair. That investigation eventually led to Friday's arrest. Both are charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. In addition, Arcee is charged with felon in possession of a weapon and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. According to ABC 13, Homeland Security is investigating more than 100 stolen FCA vehicles that they believe were hacked using this method. After their theft, the vehicles were brought across the border to Mexico. FCA is currently conducting an internal investigation into the matter. After this article was posted, the company reached out to Autoblog, stating "FCA US takes the safety and security of its customers seriously and incorporates security features in its vehicles that help to reduce the risk of unauthorized and unlawful access to vehicle systems and wireless communications. FCA US has been cooperating with Houston Police Department since they first started the investigation.
