This auction is for a red 1997 Chrysler Sebring JXi Convertible 2 door car.  The car is in overall fair condition considering it's age, it runs and gets you where you want to go.  I have had the vehicle in my posession for the last year and a half and have had no mechanical problems and I drive it daily.  The car is not perfect however, it has a lot of cosmetic issues but the good news about that is that cosmetic issues can be fixed or hidden with a replacement cover.  Mechanically the car seems alright, again I have not had any trouble.  I have driven it out of town (300 miles away) and back and it loves the open road.  In "stand still" heavy traffic sometimes I notice that the check engine light sometimes flickers on and off but it goes away.  The car does not have any kind of overheating issues during the stand still heavy traffic which is a good thing, I am not too sure what causes that light to flicker on.

That is the overall general health of the car.  Below I will pin point specs/issues that I see in the car that might interest a potential buyer:

  • Has power everything, this car was top of the line in it's time: power - windows/locks/mirrors/drivers seat/convertible drop top *all working condition*
  • 2.5L V6 4 speed automatic engine
  • 16 mpg city/24 mpg hwy with an overall combined 19 mpg hwy & city
  • Clear Texas title ready to transfer to you
  • Low miles!!!! Only 112,663
  • Bucket leather seats, however they are torn & stained, especially the driver seat but seat covers is an easy fix
  • Fog Lights
  • Keyless entry fob *works* (1), factory original key (1), factory original valet key (1)
  • Lighted entry system
  • Cruise control
  • Power brakes - they squeak at times especially after rain
  • Rear window defroster
  • 16 Inch alloy wheels
  • Takes regular unleaded fuel (holds 15.8 gallons)
  • Tachometer & trip computer
  • 4 wheel ABS
  • Driver and passender front airbags
  • Air Conditioning available but needs an A/C service done, not blowing cold air
  • Radio/CD player works.  Infinity Audio system w/CD changer but I don't know if it works - factory radio has been replaced with a Pioneer CD player w/detachable face.  Also XM radio was installed at one time, connections are there but you would need a new system installed
  • Floor carpeting is severely stained, would need detail deep cleaning
  • Leather trim steering wheel in rough condition, currently has a steering wheel cover over it
  • Spare "donut" tire with tire changing jack and attachments
  • Center light (under rearview mirror) on passenger side works but needs a replacement bulb, also light insert that holds it in has come loose
  • Trunk won't stay open on it's own, you need to hold it up by hand - probably needs a replacement spring
  • Angler on A/C center vent on passenger side is broke, you can't change the position that outcoming air is angled
  • Sun visors have torn & diminishing fabric from age
  • New battery recently replaced in DEC 2013
  • The outside of the vehicle is fair, it has some dings, nicks, scrapes, but no major damage.  The heat here in Texas has taken a toll on the paint.  The paint is worn in some areas from the heat especially on the back trunk area, I have taken pictures so you can see what I mean.  It could use a gloss treatment to minimize the dryness appearance.
  • The tan convertible fabric top has a spot near the rear window edge where the fabric has slightly come unseamed

I have tried to cover everything as best as I can, personally looking at the vehicle would be optimal to best form your opinion.  This vehicle is being sold "as is" and I am confident you will be happy with the car and that you will find it was a fair purchase from a reputable seller.

Shipment:  I am open to whatever works best for you on getting it to you.  You can pay to have it shipped to you (you would have to set all of that up yourself and payment for that is completely your responsibility).  Also you can come get it from Austin, TX.  Or if you live close enough we might be able to arrange a "meeting half way" point for a small shipment fee paid to me.

Payment:  full payment is expected before taking delivery of the vehicle.  Only cash or certified funds from your bank.  If you are getting it financed, your bank will usually send you with certified funds to exchange for the vehicle.

Stellantis invests more than $100 million in California lithium project

Thu, Aug 17 2023

Stellantis said it would invest more than $100 million in California's Controlled Thermal Resources, its latest bet on the direct lithium extraction (DLE) sector amid the global hunt for new sources of the electric vehicle battery metal. The investment by the Chrysler and Jeep parent announced on Thursday comes as the green energy transition and U.S. Inflation Reduction Act have fueled concerns that supplies of lithium and other materials may fall short of strong demand forecasts. DLE technologies vary, but each aims to mechanically filter lithium from salty brine deposits and thus avoid the need for open pit mines or large evaporation ponds, the two most common but environmentally challenging ways to extract the battery metal. Stellantis, which has said half of its fleet will be electric by 2030, also agreed to nearly triple the amount of lithium it will buy from Controlled Thermal, boosting a previous order to 65,000 metric tons annually for at least 10 years, starting in 2027. "This is a significant investment and goes a long way toward developing this key project," Controlled Thermal CEO Rod Colwell said in an interview. The company plans to spend more than $1 billion to separate lithium from superhot geothermal brines extracted from beneath California's Salton Sea after flashing steam off those brines to spin turbines that will produce electricity starting next year. That renewable power is expected to cut the amount of carbon emitted during lithium production. Rival Berkshire Hathaway has struggled to produce lithium from the same area given large concentrations of silica in the brine that can form glass when cooled, clogging pipes. Colwell said a $65 million facility recently installed by Controlled Thermal can remove that silica and other unwanted metals. DLE equipment licensed from Koch Industries would then remove the lithium. "We're very happy with the equipment," he said. "We're going to deliver. There's just no doubt about it." Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares called the Controlled Thermal partnership "an important step in our care for our customers and our planet as we work to provide clean, safe and affordable mobility." Both companies declined to provide the specific investment amount. Controlled Thermal aims to obtain final permits by October and start construction of a commercial lithium plant soon thereafter, Colwell said. Goldman Sachs is leading the search for additional debt and equity financing, he added.

Stellantis lays off salaried workers, cites uncertainty in EV transition

Sat, Mar 23 2024

DETROIT — Jeep maker Stellantis is laying off about 400 white-collar workers in the U.S. as it deals with the transition from combustion engines to electric vehicles. The company formed in the 2021 merger between PSA Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler said the workers are mainly in engineering, technology and software at the headquarters and technical center in Auburn Hills, Michigan, north of Detroit. Affected workers were notified starting Friday morning. “As the auto industry continues to face unprecedented uncertainties and heightened competitive pressures around the world, Stellantis continues to make the appropriate structural decisions across the enterprise to improve efficiency and optimize our cost structure,” the company said in a prepared statement Friday. The cuts, effective March 31, amount to about 2% of Stellantis' U.S. workforce in engineering, technology and software, the statement said. Workers will get a separation package and transition help, the company said. “While we understand this is difficult news, these actions will better align resources while preserving the critical skills needed to protect our competitive advantage as we remain laser focused on implementing our EV product offensive,” the statement said. CEO Carlos Tavares repeatedly has said that electric vehicles cost 40% more to make than those that run on gasoline, and that the company will have to cut costs to make EVs affordable for the middle class. He has said the company is continually looking for ways to be more efficient. U.S. electric vehicle sales grew 47% last year to a record 1.19 million as EV market share rose from 5.8% in 2022 to 7.6%. But sales growth slowed toward the end of the year. In December, they rose 34%. Stellantis plans to launch 18 new electric vehicles this year, eight of those in North America, increasing its global EV offerings by 60%. But Tavares told reporters during earnings calls last month that “the job is not done” until prices on electric vehicles come down to the level of combustion engines — something that Chinese manufacturers are already able to achieve through lower labor costs. “The Chinese offensive is possibly the biggest risk that companies like Tesla and ourselves are facing right now,Â’Â’ Tavares told reporters. “We have to work very, very hard to make sure that we bring out consumers better offerings than the Chinese.

Woman who gives birth on video in moving car gets another surprise

Wed, Sep 12 2018

A mother of (now) five gave birth on video in her minivan on the way to the hospital last week, and she was just gifted a brand new Chrysler Pacifica minivan by none other than Jimmy Kimmel. He brought the now viral family live on air to talk about the crazy experience. The birth video is stunning, scary, but hilarious too once you realize who all is in the car. Alexis Swinney, the mother, was reportedly only minutes away from the hospital when the baby just couldn't wait any longer. Swinney's husband filmed the entire thing while driving (not recommended) on the way to the hospital. Kimmel echoed our thoughts on this exactly, "The whole time I'm watching, I'm thinking put the camera down and drive the car!" As she gives birth, he swivels the camera back to their other children in the rear seat with shocked looks on their faces — they just witnessed their mother giving birth to their new sister. Obviously the car was a complete mess after giving birth, so Kimmel did the best he could to help them out. "We were concerned that things might not be clean in the car anymore, so we called our friends at Chrysler ... so we're upgrading you. Go ahead, go in there, have a couple more kids," Kimmel said. This story transitioned from scary to unbelievable, and finally, incredibly heartwarming. The family can now pack all of their kids into the wonderful children transporting machine that the Pacifica is.Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
