THIS IS A VERY NICE CAR I'M LISTING FOR MY FATHER. THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT IS FROM THE CURRENT OWNER. THERE IS A SMALL BINDER TO COME WITH THE CAR THAT HAS A LITTLE BIT OF THE HISTORY. This car is essentially all original, has only been repainted once in its lifetime. It has all original numbers matching Hemi engine. I or anyone else who has worked on it has never found any filler, bondo or pieced in sheet metal. There are some chips in the paint. At some point there was a sun visor on the top of the windshield and someone removed it leaving some minor marks, only on the driver's side. To the best of my knowledge all the body panels are original. I do not believe the chrome has been replaced or rechromed. There is some minor pitting and one spot on top of the bumper is starting to show. The interior seat covers, hogs hair carpet, dash and steering wheel are all original. The car was built in Detroit on August 17th, 1951. It was shipped to a dealer on August 23rd in San Diego. I have registration receipts from a man who owned the car from 1969 until 1972., who lived in Vista Ca. I bought the car at the Chrysler Nationals in July 2004 from an Ohio dealer called MotorCar Portfolio. Owned by the famous author and car historian, Bob Litchy. Who was selling it for a man who had a career as a car researcher who resided in WI. It is essentially a no-rust, all original car. 90,000 actual miles. All work done in the last 3000 miles Complete engine rebuild to factory specs. Bored .030 over and hardened valve seats used to run unleaded fuel safely. Complete transmission rebuild complete new dual exhaust rebuild of rear springs, new front coil springs and shocks New rebuilt fuel pump New starter, solenoid, starter coil and 6 volt Complete radiator rebuild with newly rebuilt water pump Complete brake system rebuild, drums, wheel cylinders and power assist booster. New radial white walls Original electric fuel door opener All weather comfort heating system 8-tube AM radio and clock with in dash speaker (not working) Optional power steering All copies of receipts for all the work done during my ownership will be included. Fiat Chrysler chief still says EVs can't make money
Sun, Jun 12 2016Add Sergio Marchionne's insistence that it's impossible to make money on electric vehicle production to death and taxes among things we can all count on. The Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO, speaking in an interview with UK's Car Magazine, implied that Tesla Motors was "the iPhone of cars." The metaphor may have been mixed, as iPhones make plenty of cash for Apple, whereas Tesla has never made an annual profit from its electric vehicles. But the implication was that automakers should stick to what they know, and they don't know smartphones. Forget any upcoming presidential debates, we're waiting for one between Marchionne and Tesla chief Elon Musk. As for the development of autonomous-driving features? Those are another story, says Marchionne, and an area where he's far more in line with Musk. That's because the technology required to make a car safely accelerate, brake, and steer on its own is far cheaper than making a car with an electric drivetrain that offers similar range and performance to a car with an internal combustion engine, he says. As opposed to electrification, Fiat Chrysler has been going the route of modifying conventional powertrains via wringing out more power out of progressively smaller engines, and mating them with eight- and nine-speed transmissions. As for EVs, credit Marchionne for his consistency. Fiat Chrysler has been selling the Fiat 500e since 2013. That year, Wards Auto named the 500e motor to its 10 Best Engines list, while the 500e won Road & Track's 2013 award for best electric car. Still, Marchionne has long said that Fiat only makes the vehicle for to satisfy zero-emissions vehicle mandates in California, and that the company loses as much as $10,000 for every 500e that it sells. Mon, 02 Jun 2014I love road trips. Honestly, one of the best parts about this job is the freedom we're given to experience the open road, whether at new car launches or while bombing around with whatever we're testing on our home turf. But the longer-form road trip is equally special to me, and it's something I'm always eager to do. Air travel stinks - that's not news. So if I can drive, I will. And without our dear TSA to fight with, I can pack all the chainsaws and gallon jugs of chocolate milk that I want.
So when it came time to attend the 2014 New York Auto Show this past April, I thought, "Why not drive?" Typically, the route from downtown Detroit to Manhattan is something like 10 hours, but I decided to bake some extra time into the journey and planned for the vast majority of my travels to be off the beaten path. Doing the "avoid expressways" route allows you to see parts of America you've never encountered before, and to meet people with stories and opinions that you've never heard. It's a great way to travel if you have the time. There's something uniquely serene about seeing the country in a great car on a great road.
Let's talk about that "great car" line for a moment. Ideally, long stretches of backroads are best done in something fast, comfortable and involving - a Porsche 911 comes to mind. Or, another school of thought says to pick some fun little spitfire like the always-lovely Mazda MX-5 Miata, for top-down, sun-drenched fun. But for this trip, I chose the 2015 Chrysler 200, in fully loaded S guise with all-wheel drive. Now, settle down; I'm not about to compare it to either the Porsche or Mazda. The point I'm making is this: after 1,500 test miles under my butt, I can emphatically state that the new 200 is indeed a great car in its own right.
Half of huge Stellantis engine plant's output will be EV motors by 2024
Mon, Jul 4 2022TREMERY, France — Stellantis said on Wednesday it will speed up the production of electric motors at its factory in Tremery (Moselle), long the world's largest diesel engine plant, to account for 50% of the facility's capacity by 2024. In 2021, diesel still accounted for 67% of production at this plant in northeastern France. But by 2024, diesel engines will make up only 30% of installed capacity. Gasoline engines, which are also used for hybrid electric vehicles, will make up 20% of capacity. Within the last decade, diesel accounted for more than 50% of new car sales in Europe, but the technology has fallen out of favour as the European Union has focused instead on zero-emission solutions for cars. Earlier on Wednesday, EU countries clinched deals on proposed laws to combat climate change, backing an effective ban on new fossil-fuel car sales from 2035 and a multibillion-euro fund to shield poorer citizens from CO2 costs. The shift to electric presents the auto industry with considerable challenges for jobs and training. An electric motor has a third of the parts of an internal combustion engine, requiring fewer parts and hours for production. The Tremery plant, which opened in 1979, has already shed jobs. The factory currently employs around 2,400 people and a nearby gearbox plant in Metz has 1,100 workers, compared to 3,000 and 1,400 respectively in 2019. Stellantis still makes diesel models like the new Citroen C4X. But others like the Peugeot 408 are switching to gasoline and hybrid models only.
