GENERAL:

Very nice original 1962 Chrysler New Yorker.

While not considered a "classic", this vehicle is still a great looking car of the care-free early sixties.  Her name is Ethyl (though you can rename her).

Vehicle has been owned by me and garage stored (covered) for the last 7 years.

This was a running and driving car with working everything when I last used it. But that was a while ago.  I haven't started the engine in a few years. So the only thing wrong with the car would be time and lack of use.

Please review the pictures. Contact me with any or all questions and I will try to answer them.

EXTERIOR:

The car has no visible rust. There are a few small bubble spots. Also some flaking/rub areas were the paint is off from the metal.

Paint is Rosewood (taupey pink color).  The paint on the sides of the vehicle is in better shape than the top surfaces.  The hood and trunk surfaces have had the paint marred.  It is cloudy and scratched up.  It looks like someone who didn't know what they were doing took an orbital polisher to the surface.

This is a very solid car.  All trim is present. All doors, hood and trunk panels fit well and close tight.

The Chrysler New Yorker emblem in the front grill is missing.  Reproduction emblems can be ordered online.

Radio antenna has been removed/broken (?) off.  But is still with vehicle and fits back on the exterior mount.

Rear Glass has been previously replaced.

 INTERIOR:

The interior is in overall good shape but upholstery needs cleaning. Of coarse smells musty due to age. There is one tear w/ tape on it on the drivers seat back cushion at the bottom.

Headliner has holes: middle by sun visors, by passenger side front and rear, and in the rear back on both sides. Carpet has the normal wear and tear and looks like it has properly been replaced.

Dash/Odometer has the clear dome panel..Pushbutton Transmission Gears.  All switches and buttons are present and working.

ENGINE:

Engine is a 413.  The times I've run it, it wants to go like a bat out of hell.

I never did any work on the engine and can't tell you much about it.

Battery should have been disconnected, but was not.

 CONCERNS:

Tires: Probably need replacement. I'm not sure how old they are.  They went flat from sitting, but when filled they hold the air again.

Exhaust: The exhaust has a plastic/rubber tube in place of an exhaust pipe.

Fuel:  The previous owner was out of gas to show/run the vehicle, so he put some mix (oil/gas) in instead.  Vehicle exhausted black smoke.  The fuel tank would probably need to be drained/cleaned.

EXTRAS:

There are several spare parts in a box.

There are two rear taillight lenses and one taillight chrome bracket trim.

2 Chrome trim pieces - not really sure where they go.

Carpet fabric for trunk.

Extra chrome vent strips.

FCA CEO Manley says alliances are still possible but aren't necessary

Mon, Aug 5 2019

DETROIT — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Chief Executive has a message for Renault SA and other would-be partners: We are happy to talk, but we can go it alone. "Strategically, we have a solid future and clear plans that are being invested in and are underway now," Mike Manley said during a session with reporters the day after the company released better than expected second-quarter results. "That isn't to say if there is a better future through an alliance or partnership or merger we wouldnÂ’t be open and interested to it." Fiat Chrysler is open to re-starting merger negotiations with French automaker Renault, Manley said, but added the French car maker is not the only potential partner to gain scale or plug gaps in Fiat Chrysler's technology or vehicle lineup. "To say are they the only opportunity, the answer to that question would be a definitive ‘No,Â’" Manley said. Fiat Chrysler in June withdrew a $35 billion merger proposal with Renault after French government officials intervened in the talks and sought to delay a decision on the deal. The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Renault and Nissan are trying again to reshape their alliance and resolve disagreements that helped to derail the merger talks with Fiat Chrysler. Fiat Chrysler has a commercial vehicle partnership with French rival Peugeot SA, and the two companies discussed a broader combination before Fiat Chrysler made its offer to Renault, people familiar with the situation have said. Manley said automakers are not the only potential partners. "There are cooperations that can help in specific technologies. There are cooperations as we think about the consumer-car interface," he said. "You could see collaborations that never would be there in the past." Fiat Chrysler's North American business is strong thanks to Ram trucks and Jeep SUVs, but in other markets the automaker faces continued challenges. The company is overhauling its mass-market business in Europe, which is anchored by the Fiat brand. Fiat Chrysler's Europe, Middle East and Africa operations were marginally profitable in the second quarter and achieved 1.8% profit margin in 2018. Manley has set a goal of 3% operating margins, well short of the 10% margins the company forecast for North America.

The Walter P. Chrysler Museum is shutting down permanently this December

Thu, Nov 10 2016

It is with disappointment that we report the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, MI, will be closed down permanently at the end of this year. The museum, which closed in 2012 after not being able to cover costs, was recently reopened to the public on alternating weekends starting in June, but Chrysler made the decision to shutter it altogether after its final day of operation on December 18, 2016. The reason for this is primarily because FCA needs more office space, and the company decided to convert the museum for that purpose. The the cars will be moved to storage after the closure, and they'll be shown at various events. However, they'll only be able to be seen together for two more weekends. Those weekends include those of November 19 and 20, and December 17 and 18. The museum will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on those days. If you can, we highly recommend visiting the museum. Adults get in for $10, seniors and retired FCA employees for $8, kids between 6 and 17 for $6, and kids under 5 for free. It also has some fantastic cars including concepts from the 1950s to the 2000s, oddball performance vehicles such as the Omni GLH-S, and of course plenty of fascinating history. And if it makes any difference to you, there's even a purple Plymouth Prowler you can sit in. Just make sure you don't wait too long to make up your mind about visiting. Related Video:

Buying bang for your buck: Chrysler 300 and Kia Cadenza

Tue, Apr 11 2017

In today's car market a Chrysler or Kia with a base price of $30K can easily become $45K, just by checking a few random boxes. You can do the math – that extra $15K will cost you $300/month over the life (and death) of a 60-month payment book. If your goal is only to get places in a stylish sedan capable of staying with traffic, you can keep your outlay far closer to the base price of these cars. Although they may not appear on many shopping lists, there's a lot to like in the lower-spec versions of both Chrysler's 300 and Kia's upscale Cadenza. The Chrysler is relatively ancient among current product platforms, while the Cadenza was Kia's first upmarket initiative, now supplemented by the larger K900 and the fall debut of Kia's Stinger GT. But you will not find a better transportation value in a Kia showroom than its underappreciated Cadenza. Here's a closer look at both: CHRYSLER 300: This car is a testament to all that was right about the DaimlerChrysler merger of the late '90s. At the time of the 300 introduction, elements of its platform were taken from the Mercedes E-Class, and with proportions suggesting a mix of stately American and neoclassic German, the 300 continues to offer a "just right" mix of respectable accessibility. The guy owning the package store could "Dub" it, while Miss Daisy would have been eminently comfortable in its back seat. In 2017, the 300 is an outlier in the sedan landscape. This is a large four-door with rear-wheel drive (all-wheel drive is optional). But in a sea of Accord this or Avalon that, the 300 impresses as an almost-relevant update of sedans in your murky past. The attachment to Chrysler products of 50 years ago goes beyond the Hemi that might be under the hood; it's the entire vibe of a car company trying hard to distinguish itself in today's marketplace. Despite numerous updates, the Chrysler still seems last century, and that's just fine with older drivers with the cash – or credit rating – to consider a $40K car. Behind the wheel, Chrysler's 300 exhibits all we love about American motoring. You would never confuse the handling with 'crisp,' but it's competent, while the ride is almost sublime. This is a car that in fully-loaded form deserves a Hemi, but the V6 is generally unobtrusive, and might net you 30 mpg on the highway. The conventional, 8-speed automatic goes about its business exactly as an automatic should.
