PROJECT OR PARTS CAR  offered at NO RESERVE

California two owner car.  Overall appearance is very presentable.  The car was repainted and the wood decal replaced by the original owner.  The convertible top would need to be replaced.  The engine was overhauled in 2005 and was not done right.  The car will run but major repairs and expense would be required to be driveable again.  The car is on non-op status with CA DMV and no fees are owed.  I am listing this car for sale as alternative to sending a low production car to the junkyard.  There is no rust on this car and it has been stored inside in Banning, CA since 2005.  The car is sold as is without warranty.  Buyer is responsible for shipping and shipper should be advised it is a non running vehicle.  Payment by Paypal or cashiers check only.  All funds must clear bank before car will be released.  Must be picked up within 14 days of end of auction.

On Jan-28-13 at 16:57:02 PST, seller added the following information:

In order to answer the questions I have been getting about the car I took it out of storage to assess its current condition.  I was able to start and drive the car.  It now has fresh gas and will come with a near new battery.  The brakes are spongy, but work.  I now think it could be driven onto a transport truck without a problem.  I have clear title to the car.  The tires were new when stored.  It has its original soft parade boot, an original style radio, owners manual and repair receipts all of which will go with the car.  The trunk is clean and in near mint condition.  The alternator does not seem to be working.  If you have further questions call 760-567-4330.  Thanks.

FCA recalling 33k vans and SUVs for TPMS problems in two campaigns

Thu, 30 Oct 2014

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is issuing two, separate recalls covering a total of 33,443 examples in the US of the 2014 Ram ProMaster, 2014 Jeep Wrangler, 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan and 2014 Chrysler Town & Country because of potential problems with the tire pressure monitoring system in the vehicles.
The first campaign is for 23,053 units of the 2014 Ram ProMaster. It's possible for the TPMS to not recognize the location of the data coming from the sensors in the wheels. If this happens, then the low tire pressure warning light comes on and potentially gives the driver a false positive. If the warning isn't cleared, and drivers keep going, they might not be aware of another tire that actually has low pressure. This fix for this is a software update.
The second recall covers 10,390 examples of the 2014 Wrangler, Grand Caravan and Town & Country. According to FCA, it's possible that a test mode for the TPMS is still on since being shipped from the supplier. On affected vehicles, it could cause inaccurate pressure readings. The repair involves disabling that mode on the TPMS module.

What's in a trademark? Sometimes, the next iconic car name

Thu, 07 Aug 2014

The United States Patent and Trademark Office is a treasure trove for auto enthusiasts, especially those who double as conspiracy theorists.
Why has Toyota applied to trademark "Supra," the name of one of its legendary sports cars, even though it hasn't sold one in the United States in 16 years? Why would General Motors continue to register "Chevelle" long after one of the most famous American muscle cars hit the end of the road? And what could Chrysler possibly do with the rights to "313," the area code for Detroit?

Treasury says auto bailout tally drops to $20.3 billion

Tue, 12 Feb 2013

In December, the US Treasury announced that it was going to sell all of its shares in General Motors within 12 to 15 months. The first tranche of the 500-million total shares was purchased by GM, which took 200 million of them at $27.50 per share. That price represents an eight-percent premium over the market price at the time. The remaining 300 million shares will be sold "through various means in an orderly fashion."
Of the $418 billion disbursed through the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), a report in Automotive News indicates that "about 93 percent" has been paid back, and the latest figures put Treasury's loss from the program overall at $55.58 billion. That's a $4.1 billion improvement on the last figure, when the expected red ink added up to $59.68 billion. The auto industry's portion of that loss is estimated to be $20.3 billion, a 16-percent drop from the earlier estimate of $24.3 billion.
The Treasury now owns 19 percent of GM, but if all goes well, there will be no more cause for anyone to utter "Government Motors" by the end of Q1 next year. A loss of some kind is still expected, however. Although GM's stock price is close to $29 at the time of this writing, that's still $4 below its IPO price and well below the $72 share price necessary for the government to come out even on its GM investment. On second thought, maybe the ribbing will continue.
