Street Machines is proud to present this astonishing 1982 Chrysler LeBaron Mark Cross edition convertible. The introduction of Chrysler's 1982 K-car lineup saved the automaker from bankruptcy. This example is the top-optioned offering for 1982, displaying its original paint, special leather interior, and number's matching drivetrain. This car has always been garage-kept and is in excellent condition. A 2-owner car, this 1st edition 1982 Chrysler Medallion Lebaron Mark Cross Convertible was garaged and Sunday driven by its first owner until 2010 at 25,000 miles. The 2nd owner put just over 5,000 miles on the car until our acquisition. This simply has to be one of the best original K cars in existence today, from the leather to the mechanicals and paint, outstanding car. Few of these cars remain in this kind of condition. I have no idea how many are surviving. You could order this 1st year special convertible in either Mahogany Metallic or this, the Pearl White. Enjoy our presentation and feel free to email or phone with any questions. View our 100% positive customer feedback and bid with 100% confidence. This up and coming collector car is over 32 years old and an official antique.

Chrysler's optional stereo system also functions as it should, providing the symphonic experience. The power antenna is also functioning as it should. We also have an un-opened original Sounds of Chrysler cassette that came with this optional stereo for 1982.

Under the hood is the top-optioned for 1982 2.6 liter Mitsubishi-derived in-line 4-cylinder engine. The engine compartment is very clean, original, and detailed. The original decals and markings are intact throughout the engine. The firewall, inner fenders, and core support are excellent. This is a corrosion-free example and it shows.

 photo DSC02796_zpsa8dc1bd8.jpg

The engine itself runs smoothly and is fast to start. The transmission shifts correctly and the brakes stop straight. There are no check lights or otherwise faulty illuminations to be found. We are proud of this little LeBaron. The convertible top boot is original and in excellent condition as is the original convertible top, inside and out. The plastic rear window is also clear. The paint has never been repaired or worked. It is original throughout and in remarkable condition. There are a few tiny chip touch-ups and imperfections in the paint along with some nicks in the original pinstripe. You really have to look hard for any flaws in this amazing car. It is corrosion-free underneath with factory undercoating and all original flooring and sheetmetal throughout.

Underneath the car, you'll find excellent original flooring throughout, never altered or repaired in any way. The suspension components are original and excellent. This car has never been involved in any kind of collision or experienced rust damage, unlike so many K cars. I wonder how many of these cars are left today?

Note the Chrysler-offered Mark Cross umbrella, also in excellent condition, never used along with the leather-bound notebook and factory documents. This car has the original owner's manual and dealer brochure as well. This gold-plated metal plaque is a vintage original piece offered by Chrysler dealers in 1982 to personalize your Mark Cross edition convertible. It is a rare find and is left blank for inscription of your choice. The adhesive backing is still in place, never removed or installed in any way.

 photo DSC03148_zps420e47e6.jpg

Chysler's famed pentastar hood ornament is in excellent condition, as is the exterior brightwork (chrome) throughout this car. Cartier supplied the special jeweled hood ornament for Chrysler, the perfect compliment to the high-end Mark Cross leather interior. Mark Cross was established in 1845 and is still in business today, selling high-end leather goods.

Junkyard Gem: 1989 Chrysler TC by Maserati

Sun, Nov 27 2022

Lee Iacocca's friendship with Alejandro de Tomaso went way back, and it led to the Ford-powered De Tomaso Pantera being born in 1971 (when Iacocca was running Ford). After Iacocca moved over to head Chrysler in 1978, he began working with de Tomaso (who owned Maserati by that point) to develop a sports coupe based on the Chrysler-salvation K-Car platform. It took quite a while, but eventually that car became reality: the Chrysler TC by Maserati (officially known as Chrysler's TC by Maserati). Some 7,300 were built through 1991, and I've found one of them in a Denver-area car graveyard. I've managed to document four of these cars in their final parking spots prior to this one, in wrecking yards in Colorado, California, and Wisconsin. The Chrysler's TC by Maserati does have a devoted following, but they can't save 'em all. The TC really was assembled by Maserati in Italy, but the underlying chassis was taken from the Dodge Daytona. The body bore a strong resemblance to that of the Chrysler LeBaron GTC, which was unfortunate considering the price difference between the two cars: the MSRP on the 1989 TC was $33,000, while the LeBaron GTC cost $17,435 (that's about $80,880 and $42,730 in 2022 dollars). The TC had three different engines driving the front wheels over its short lifetime: two varieties of turbocharged Chrysler 2.2 four-cylinder (one with 160 horsepower and one with a Cosworth cylinder head with 200 horsepower) and that good old workhorse of a Mitsubishi V6: the 6G72, with 141 horses. This car has the 160hp 2.2. The Cosworth-headed cars (500 were built) got a five-speed manual transmission, but the other 6,800 TCs got a Chrysler slushbox of either three or four speeds (this one is a three-speed). There was a lot of snobbish disapproval of the TC by the automotive press, but just look at that interior! Even the most over-the-top LeBaron never got this level of swank inside.  Every time I write about one of these cars, I hear that the factory hardtop roof is worth fantastic money… but four out of the five examples I've found in junkyards had the hardtop, and I think every single one went to the crusher with its car. How many miles? Not many! Maybe the speedometer cable broke in 1995. The radio and HVAC controls are straight LeBaron, but the wood and leather are the real thing.

FCA applies to trademark 'My Freedom' for subscription service

Wed, Jan 22 2020

Almost a year ago to the day, several outlets reported that Fiat Chrysler would trial three car-swapping programs in Boston focused on the Jeep brand. One program covered peer-to-peer Jeep rentals through Turo; another was a three-month subscription service through Avis that allowed Jeep owners to swap for Ram or Dodge vehicles; the third was called "Car Borrowing" and enabled Jeep owners to buy "Jeep Coins" to use on a one-day rental of other Fiat Chrysler products. It's possible FCA is taking last year's lessons to the next phase, CarBuzz having discovered the automaker applied to trademark the term "My Freedom" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The listed purpose of the mark would be "motor vehicle subscription services, namely, providing temporary use of motor vehicles to members for their personal use." Having begun its research using Jeep, it's not clear if a potential My Freedom subscription service would retain the 4x4 SUV focus or include other brands in the fold; with Jeep's martial origins, the brand has made ample use of the Freedom name over the years. There's also a link to new partner Groupe PSA, as the French automaker's mobility division and subscription service is dubbed Free2Move.   Related: Autoblog's guide to car subscription services   FCA made no comment on the filing, but an analyst at AutoForecast Solutions told The Detroit News that the submission "prepares (FCA) for the future," as. "The idea that autonomy would prevent the need for your own vehicle leads perfectly into subscriptions." U.S. brands haven't cracked the subscription nut yet, even with their premium offerings. Ford bought subscription startup Canvas in 2016, then sold it last year to the car-rental app Fair. GM launch Book by Cadillac in 2016, and shut it down for retooling in 2018 before a re-launch scheduled to happen sometime this year. If nothing else, an FCA subscription program with access to the top-end product could give other-brand luxury owners an easy way to pay attention to Maserati and Alfa Romeo. That would be good for everyone. Related Video:

FCA, Ford idle plants due to semiconductor shortage

Fri, Jan 8 2021

DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford and FCA will become the latest automakers to idle production facilities due to a semiconductor shortage. Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky will idle for a week, borrowing a down period from later in the year to compensate. Per Automotive News, FCA is idling its Brampton facility in Ontario, Canada, and one other site which has not yet been identified.  Louisville Assembly is the production site for the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair SUVs; Brampton Assembly produces the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger for FCA.  A Ford spokeswoman, who declined to identify the semiconductor supplier, confirmed the temporary shutdown to Reuters. In this, FCA and Ford join Nissan and potentially Honda in idling production in the wake of the shortage, which also hit Volkswagen late last year. The shortages are being blamed on consumer demand for silicon after production slowdowns resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. Volkswagen said it had to adjust production schedules in China, Europe and North America to compensate.  Nissan said it planned to reduce production of the Note, a hybrid electric car, at its Oppama Plant in Kanagawa prefecture, Japan, but did not give details of the scale of the output cut. The Nikkei newspaper reported that Nissan would slash its Note production at Oppama to about 5,000 units in January, from an initially planned 15,000 units. "A global shortage of semiconductors has affected parts procurement in the auto sector. As a result of this shortage, the Oppama Plant in Japan will adjust production in January, reducing production of the Nissan NOTE," Nissan said in a statement.
