Hagerty has a #1 at $32000.00 a #2 at $21500.00 and a #3 at $13500.00 History of the 1960-1963 ImperialChrysler’s Imperial line held onto 1950s styling cues much longer than most American models, with tall fins and flashy chrome. In fact, the 1960 models differed little from 1959, apart from the fins being shortened to complete their arc before the rear door edge. The aggressive 1959 barred grille was replaced with a fine horizontal mesh while the front bumper dipped down in the center. Headlights were still under cats-paw fenders, and side trim started beside the headlight, curving downwards almost reaching the rear bumper. Another piece of trim curved up from the C-pillar to the top of the windshield. The spare wheel “birdbath” pressing was a trunk lid option. Chrysler built three series of Imperials and sold 7,800 Customs, 8,200 Crowns, and 1,700 LeBarons. The Custom offered two-and four-door hardtops and a four-door sedan; the Crown added a convertible to the same lineup. The LeBaron was available as a four-door sedan and hardtop with a formal, squarer rear window. At the top of the line was the Crown Imperial limousine built by Ghia in Turin, Italy, which rode on a 149.5 inch wheelbase extended chassis. Costing a whopping $16,000 apiece – three times the cost of a Custom or Crown – only 16 were sold. Engines were 350 horsepower 413-cid V-8s; and all Imperials had power steering, power brakes, and power windows. Total Imperial production for 1960 was 17,716. Fins were continued in 1961, brought to a point; thinner and more blade-like, with free-standing taillights below them. The grille was shortened and squared, while the headlights were also free-standing and mounted on the bumpers. A bold piece of side trim ran from the cats-paw fender, getting wider as it made its way across to the rear. The four-door sedan was removed from the lineup, leaving just two- and four-door hardtops in the Custom and Crown lines, though the Crown also offered a convertible. LeBaron was reduced to a single four-door hardtop, while the expensive Crown Imperial eight-passenger limousine retained its 1960 styling. Only nine were sold. Imperial production plunged to 12,259; with only 1,026 LeBarons and a mere 429 Crown convertibles. FCA may sell off Magneti Marelli
Mon, Jul 20 2015FCA is reportedly just days away from filing the official prospectus for the Ferrari initial public offering, and it could put the Italian sportscar maker's value at $11 billion. Although, Sergio Marchionne always seems to have another iron in the fire, and his next big deal could shed the automotive giant's Magneti Marelli parts business to the tune of $3.3 billion. According to Reuters citing anonymous insider sources, at least two private equity firms are considering joint submitting bids with firms already in the industry. This deal has reportedly been in the works for at least the last few weeks. According to Reuters, FCA already rejected a roughly $2.7-billion offer in June. Marchionne apparently wants at least the equivalent of $3.3 billion for the company. Publicly, FCA isn't talking, though. Company spokesperson Gualberto Ranieri told Reuters and reiterated to Autoblog simply that Magneti Marelli wasn't for sale. However, a move to get rid of the parts company has been discussed in the past. In 2013, the business was rumored to be part of a purported arrangement to sell Alfa Romeo to Audi. While there's no final decision yet, according to Reuters, if the Magneti Marelli sale does move forward the decision would likely come sometime after the Ferrari IPO. The company would likely be split up among the various divisions. "Everyone will take a fair share of it," one of the anonymous sources to Reuters. Next Chrysler minivan spied inside and out
Wed, Feb 18 2015Chrysler isn't supposed to unveil the next-generation Town & Country until the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, but FCA is hard at work getting the minivan ready for launch. Our spies recently caught prototypes on the road and took copious photos of the interior and exterior, giving us an early idea what to expect from the future family-hauler. These shots make it pretty clear that FCA's engineers aren't done working on the next T&C yet, and all of the camouflage on the outside makes any styling changes very difficult to spot. However, the company is testing the future version with a current one, and the new design appears to have harder angles. One intriguing picture clearly shows the Dodge logo on the back of the minivan. The Dodge Grand Caravan is supposed to be killed off for 2016, though. We've also heard the next-generation minivan will get a plug-in hybrid variant, which was reportedly confirmed last week. The interior is slightly less concealed than the outside, but development is still ongoing in there, too. It's easy to spot the familiar infotainment screen from other FCA products, and there's just a peek at the T&C's instrument cluster, including the design for the tachometer. A rotary dial gearshift also appears to be in the center console, similar to the Chrysler 200. Even at this early stage, it appears that FCA is trying to take the next T&C a little more upmarket compared to the current iteration. The move fits well with earlier rumors of the price increasing for the future model. Related Video:
U.S. automakers unite in opposition to possible Trump vehicle tariffs
Mon, Feb 18 2019WASHINGTON — The U.S. auto industry urged President Donald Trump's administration on Monday not to saddle imported cars and auto parts with steep tariffs, after the U.S. Commerce Department sent a confidential report to the White House late on Sunday with its recommendations for how to proceed. Some trade organizations also blasted the Commerce Department for keeping the details of its "Section 232" national security report shrouded in secrecy, which will make it much harder for the industry to react during the next 90 days Trump will have to review it. "Secrecy around the report only increases the uncertainty and concern across the industry created by the threat of tariffs," the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association said in a statement, adding that it was "alarmed and dismayed." "It is critical that our industry have the opportunity to review the recommendations and advise the White House on how proposed tariffs, if they are recommended, will put jobs at risk, impact consumers, and trigger a reduction in U.S. investments that could set us back decades." Representatives from the White House and the Commerce Department could not immediately be reached. The industry has warned that possible tariffs of up to 25 percent on millions of imported cars and parts would add thousands of dollars to vehicle costs and potentially devastate the U.S economy by slashing jobs. Administration officials have said tariff threats on autos are a way to win concessions from Japan and the EU. Last year, Trump agreed not to impose tariffs as long as talks with the two trading partners were proceeding in a productive manner. "We believe the imposition of higher import tariffs on automotive products under Section 232 and the likely retaliatory tariffs against U.S. auto exports would undermine - and not help - the economic and employment contributions that FCA, US, Ford Motor Company and General Motors make to the U.S. economy," said former Missouri Governor Matt Blunt, the president of the American Automotive Policy Council. Some Republican lawmakers have also said they share the industry's concerns. In a statement issued on Monday, Republican Congresswoman Jackie Walorski said she fears the Commerce Department's report could "set the stage for costly tariffs on cars and auto parts." "President Trump is right to seek a level playing field for American businesses and workers, but the best way to do that is with a scalpel, not an axe," she added.
