Up for auction here is this '63 Imperial Lebaron, one of only 1,537 produced.

It does not currently run, but a good mechanic could have it running in a day or two.

Here are the descriptions to the best of my knowledge:

Body:  very straight, with one dent in front passenger's door.  Trim on this car is darn near perfect!  Only piece I can find that is missing is the "Chrysler" script on trunk.  (I may have an extra one).  There is no major rust or holes...it's a very solid car, from Calif. originally.  Black paint appears to be original.  It may buff out OK, but there are some white spots on trunk lid.  Left rear door is stuck, and all handles need lubed.  Grill is immaculate.

Glass:  Windshield has in crack in it.  All the other windows look pretty good.

Interior: No tears or rips in seats; light blue vinyl is not the original, but will clean up good.  No carpet: I took it out to check floors, which have surface rust only, but no holes.  There is no headliner.  Dash looks god, but needs detailing.  Door panels are crappy on all the bottoms.  I never put a battery in this car to see what works & what doesn't.  It has PS, PB, PW, A/C, and I think cruise control.  This car is loaded! Except I don't have keys for it...

Trunk:  surface rust only, no holes.  Good solid pan.

Engine:  a massive 413 ci motor.  It is not stuck, but it needs all the usual things: plugs, wires, hoses, belts, etc.  The radiator & alternator need hooked back up, and I'm sure the carb needs going through.  No battery. Tranny is the 3-spd TorqueFlite, and I have no idea if it works.

Brakes:  car rolls freely, but I'm sure the brakes need inspected/updated to work right.

Tires:  all hold air, but one has a slow leak due to rim seating.

Lights:  lenses are all good but left rear back-up lens/housing is broke.

This would make a great project, for someone with time, patience, and a BIG garage.  It's been setting a long time, but can be made roadworthy again. It's too nice to part out or scrap, because it's virtually rust-free.

Any questions, please email me or call:  541-726-8467 eves  (PST)

Shipping is up to  buyer.  I will help load it on my end, and if a big car carrier picks it up, I can tow it to the place down the highway, were people load cars.

  Clear title in my name!

Thanks for looking, and good luck bidding...

PS....  I reserve the right to end auction early, as it is for sale locally.

Honda poised for growth, Detroit to hold steady, Car Wars study says

Fri, Jun 5 2015

The automotive industry is expected to keep booming in the US over the next several years, but the train might start running out of steam in the long term, according to 2015's Car Wars report from Bank of America Merrill Lynch analyst John Murphy. The forecast focuses on changes between the 2016 and 2019 model years, and the latest trends appear similar in some cases to the past predictions. Sales are expected to keep growing and reach a peak of 20 million in 2018, according to the Detroit Free Press. The expansion is projected to come from a quick pace of vehicle launches, with an average of 48 introductions a year – 26 percent more than in 1996. Crossovers are expected to make up a third of these, maintaining their strong popularity. However, Murphy predicts a decline, as well. By 2025, total sales could fall to around 15 million units. As of May 2015, the seasonally adjusted annual rate for this year stands at 17.71 million. Like last year, Honda is predicted to be a big winner in the future thanks to products like the next-gen Civic. "Honda should be the biggest market share gainer," Murphy said when presenting the report, according to Free Press. Meanwhile, in a situation similar to Car Wars from 2012, a lack of many new vehicles is expected to cause a drop for Hyundai, Kia, and Nissan. Based on this forecast, Ford, General Motors, and FCA US will all generally maintain market share for the coming years. The report does make some future product predictions, though. The next Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra might come in 2019, which is earlier than expected. Also, Lincoln could get a Mustang-based coupe for 2017, a compact sedan for 2018 and an Explorer-based model in 2019, according to the Free Press. Google's new Android Autos OS unveiled, will be in cars this year [w/video]

Wed, 25 Jun 2014

Connected cars are coming en-masse. We know this much. How, though, remains something of an open question, especially as two of the world's largest tech companies are preparing to battle for control of your car's dashboard. On the one hand, we have Apple and its CarPlay system. And now, we know what Google has been working on with Auto Link.
Its new name is Android Auto, and yes, it's based off the Android architecture that is the primary challenger to Apple's iOS mobile operating system. Announced at Google's I/O conference today, Android Auto functions similarly to CarPlay - owners will need to plug their smartphones into their cars to access the full breadth of capability.
In Android Auto's case, that means a wealth of voice controls to limit distracted driving. Google's marquee apps will be available when the interface arrives in production models later this year, including Google Play Music, Google Maps and voice-activated texting and text playback. Meanwhile, developers will be able to begin designing custom apps for the new system via an upcoming software development kit.

Hot sales have Detroit automakers shortening summer shutdowns

Tue, 08 Jul 2014

Back in May, there was speculation that the Detroit Three automakers would maintain or perhaps even extend their traditional summer shutdowns, mostly due to a bitingly cold winter that saw below-freezing temperatures infiltrate the southernmost reaches of the US, putting a chill on auto sales. Now, though, the numbers are in, and thanks to some promising sales figures, it looks like some domestic line workers are going to be working clear through July, in some cases.
According to Automotive News, Ford has slashed its traditional two-week hiatus for factory workers in half at four of its plants, while both Chrysler and General Motors will keep factories running nonstop (two plants in Chrysler's case and a third of GM's factories).
This is, as we said, thanks to some positive numbers. Chief among those is the Seasonal Adjusted Annual Rate, which was at an eight-year high of 17 million units. Individual figures were less promising. GM, embroiled in its recall scandal, still saw a one-percent increase while Ford dropped six percent in year-over-year sales. Chrysler was the big winner, though, with a nine-percent jump in June.
