Hello,
1948 Desoto Custom long wheel base 7-8 passenger sedan. This is NOT a formal type (w/division window) of limousine but, more of a big comfortable luxurious sedan with fold out jump seats to accomodate 2 extra travelers. This is a factory built model and quite rare when new! Now try and find one.
I purchased this car 4 years ago from original owners family in LA. He was an engineer who took exellent care of it but, it did sit in carport for 40 years and was only started/moved occasionally. Solid car.
Most of the paint is the original. Some areas that were very thin were spotted in. Chrome and stainless mostly all good solid original condition (none missing). Floors rock solid as is the rest of this cars body. Yes some dings, chips and scratches..nothing too bad. I never intended on repainting it but, you decide.
Interior is complete but fairly rough. Not from wear but, age. It will need to be redone, however again it's all there for patterns and for the most part un-tampered with. Door handles, window cranks, trim, knobs 99% all in there, intact and inplace. Dash is in quite nice original condition. Gauges nearly all work.
Engine starts and runs good. Good oil pressure. Trans shifts well. Radiator hoses and clamps (orig type) were replaced. I also replaced fuel pump and more. I did NOT rebuild /replace generator or water pump yet, those were on my list before any regular driving (they currently are in working order). I do have new water pump in box, just have'nt put it in. Brakes were gone through completely, master, wheel cylinders, shoes etc all new! Car is currently in turn key running condition.
All 4X tires were replaced with correct size and pattern white walls. Only about 2-3 miles on them. I just drive it on my property but, drives good and tight as well as quiet and smooth.
Clear California title in my name. Car is filed NON-OP, as I do not drive it on the street. That means no registration dues. Rear license plate and frame do not go with the car (It is just there to fill the void). Front 1963 issued license plate came with the car and goes with it.
This car is over 60 years old and no warranty. No you are not going to fly in from New York and drive it back home seeing all the sights on the way. It could do that with major tune up and inspection of everything vital. The car has a CLEAR TITLE in my name. There are minor scratches, dings, bumps a few things that don't work but, overall good solid presentable original 65 year old car! This car will need to be towed or trailered to be safe and also do to the fact it is currently non-opped. This car will require some restoration work.
This car is sold as-is where is. Over 60 years old/used hence: NO WARRANTY. Please be sure your funds are in order prior to bidding! $500.00 due within 24 hrs winning auction via PayPal. Balance in full within 5 days. Up to 30 days free storage. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RENEGOCIATE AFTER AUCTION. High bidder buys the car. Get your permission from your wife, Dad, uncle, Doctor etc PRIOR to bidding. NO FIRST TIME OR NEGITIVE BIDDERS, if you have less then 10 feedback-contact me prior to bidding to avoid cancellation. Please feel free to ask questions prior to bidding. I DO NOT SHIP but, I will assist meeting here with YOUR transport company. This car will require some restoration work. This car may be sold through other means hence, SELLER HAS RIGHT TO END AUCTION if needed. Pre-inspections are welcomed with advanced notice prior to end of auction/sale. Please don't ask the reserve, I have never been to an auction were the reserve is disclosed?? Buy it now price can be considered with your reasonable offer.Thank you for your interest.

Chrysler may be testing a Hellcat 300
Thu, May 18 2017Another day goes by, and another mysterious, undisguised SRT prototype comes out of FCA. This time we have a Chrysler 300 SRT that looks nearly stock except for its footwear. Our spy photographer got up close and personal with this machine, and found that it has the same wheels with 315-mm tires that were on the early Dodge Demon prototypes. The only difference is the wheels on this 300 have Chrysler-branded center caps. All that extra width means these wheels stick pretty far out from the wheel wells, which would suggest that any production car running this setup would have flares to cover the wheels. Behind those wheels are four-piston Brembo calipers and slotted discs that looks similar to those on the current 300 SRT. We doubt that Chrysler is building a Demonized version of the 300, but the tires do suggest that this is a much more potent 300 than the current SRT, which was discontinued in the US in 2015 but is still sold in the Middle East and Australia. That's not all we have to go on, though, since our spy photographer says it sounded like it had Hellcat power under the hood. Equipping a 300 with a Hellcat engine would be a breeze, too, since the engine is already in the Charger, which is virtually identical mechanically. What you may be wondering is why Chrysler is adding a Hellcat version of the 300 SRT when that model hasn't been available in the US since 2015. One possible reason is that this would finally allow Aussies access to the 707-horsepower machine. Dodge is not a brand offered Down Under, so it doesn't get the Charger Hellcat, leaving the 300 as the only V8, rear-drive Mopar available. And for the Middle East, if the normal 300 SRT was selling well, it would only make sense to offer another variant. It shouldn't cost Chrysler too much to develop this model either, since the 300, mechanically, is virtually identical to the Charger. Fiat Chrysler recalls 4.8 million U.S. vehicles for cruise control defect
Fri, May 25 2018WASHINGTON - Fiat Chrysler said on Friday it is recalling 4.8 million U.S. vehicles over a defect that could prevent drivers from deactivating cruise control and warned owners not to use the function until they get software upgrades. The Italian-American automaker said no injuries or crashes are related to the large recall campaign but said it had one report of a driver of a 2017 Dodge Journey rental car unable to deactivate the cruise control. Fiat Chrysler, which in 2015 was hit with penalties from U.S. regulators totaling $175 million for safety lapses, did not say how much the recalls would cost. The recall addresses what Fiat Chrysler called an "extremely rare" series of events that could lead to drivers being unable to cancel cruise control. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Friday it "strongly encourages vehicle owners to follow a warning" to stop using cruise control on the recalled vehicles until repaired. NHTSA said drivers could overpower the system by forcefully applying the brakes until the vehicle stopped. Fiat Chrysler also said the vehicle could be stopped by shifting into neutral and braking. Fiat Chrysler shares fell more than 2 percent in premarket trading in New York on the recall. Fiat Chrysler noted that at times cruise control systems automatically initiate acceleration to help vehicles maintain driver-selected speeds, including when going up an incline. If an acceleration occurs simultaneously with a short-circuit in a specific electrical network, a driver could be unable to deactivate the function. Fiat Chrysler said vehicles may be placed in park once stopped, at which point cruise-control is canceled. The recall involves a group of gasoline-powered vehicles with automatic transmissions from various model years built from 2014 through the 2019 model year. Most of the vehicles being recalled cover the 2014-2018 model years. Among the vehicles being recalled are the Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Chrysler Pacifica, Dodge Charger, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Journey, Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler and Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks and Ram 3500/4500/5500 cab chassis trucks. Fiat Chrysler made the announcement going into the busy Memorial Day weekend, which traditionally kicks off the summer driving season.
Jeep in St. Louis hacked from Pittsburgh
Tue, Jul 21 2015One of America's most popular vehicles contains a security flaw that allows hackers to remotely commandeer it from anywhere on the planet. Cyber-security researchers Chris Valasek and Charlie Miller say they've accessed critical vehicle controls on a 2014 Jeep Cherokee that allowed them to remotely control critical vehicle functions like braking, transmission function, and steering. Automakers have downplayed the possibility a car could be remotely compromised, but the significance of the findings detailed Tuesday could cause them to reevaluate the threats posed to hundreds of thousands of vehicles already on the road. A key finding – the pair needed no physical access to the Jeep to pull off the attack. Valasek and Miller accessed the controls via a security hole in the Sprint cellular connection to Chrysler's UConnect infotainment system. In the course of their research, Valasek sat in his Pittsburgh home and remotely manipulated Miller's Jeep as he drove along a highway outside St. Louis. If you know a car's IP address, they say, a hacker could control it from anywhere. "We didn't add anything, didn't touch it," Valasek told Autoblog. "A customer could drive one of these things off a lot, and they'd have no clue it had these open attack surfaces." Remotely, he disabled brakes, turned the radio volume up, engaged windshield wipers and tampered with the transmission. Further, they could conduct surveillance on the Jeep, measuring its speed and tracking its whereabouts. They conducted the experiments over multiple breaches. They made their findings public on the same day the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the federal agency in charge of vehicle safety, released its latest report on the readiness of government and automakers to fend off these sorts of cyber attacks. Later today, two US Senators are expected to introduce legislation that would help consumers better understand the potential risks of car hacking. In the early stages of their research, Valasek and Miller found a security flaw in the car's wi-fi that allowed them to remotely manipulate controls from a range of about three feet. But in recent months, they found another vulnerability in the Sprint cellular connection in the UConnect system. That was a key breakthrough. "Lo and behold, we found we could communicate with this thing using cellular, and then more research, and 'Holy cow,' we're using the Sprint network to communicate with these vehicles," Valasek said.
