1961  Chrysler South Hampton Imperial Crown Coupe, Rare 1 of 1007 produced.
Car was originally from Nebraska and brought to Ohio in October of 2006. Car was in a hail storm in 1981 that the movie "Twister" was based on. There is some hail damage on the roof, hood, and trunk, and the car saw one repaint somewhere in the late 70's. There is some lacquer checking on the tops of the fenders which resulted in some flaking and light surface rust (seen in photos), but overall is a very solid car. Engine was completely rebuilt with new pistons, rings, bearings, valve job, and Mopar Performance stock 383 Road Runner camshaft and lifters. Gaskets were updated to "Top Fuel" steel core pan Felpro gasket, Viton rear mainseal, and a set of Moroso steel core silicon valvecover gaskets. Rods were resized with ARP bolts, block was torque plate honed, and crank is .010" under. At the same time, heads were updated with hardened valve seats and new valves for unleaded fuel. Electronic high energy ignition and distributor were installed with Firecore 50 plug wires to ensure easy start up and good idle quality. The stock Carter 4 barrel was also rebuilt with new floats and gaskets. New belts, hoses, water pump, fuel pump, and an aftermarket aluminum radiator were added to ensure plenty of reliable miles of cruising. A/C was not charged during install late this fall, but is in good condition. A true dual 2 1/4" exhaust was installed with very nice mufflers that do not drone or make it sound like a Super Bee. Car also received new brake hoses and Wagner master cylinder as the brake linings and wheel cylinders were near new and not showing any weeping. Cast iron Torqueflite was completely rebuilt and shifts beautifully. Also a brand new gas tank and sending unit were installed due to many years of storage and very little gas in the tank taking it's toll. Interior is in good condition with some wear/thin spots on the driver seat base (see photos) but no heavy wear on the seats or dash. Carpet will need to be replaced as will the rubber door and trunk seals due to dry rot. Drivetrain was completely gone through to make the car reliable and safe to drive and "restore as you go". 30 years of experience building Mopars went into this build to make it the most relaiable and fun to drive car as humanly possible with OEM parts.

Floorboards and trunk are very good, as is the frame and body. Glass is in remarkable condition, as is the chrome. Rear bumper does have a small area of peeling on the face/flat of the bumper, but very restorable and presentable. Car is straight with a handful of very minor dings in the sides and about 20-25 dings up top due to hail. Fortunately, the trim seems to have dodged the hail storm and is in very nice condition. Electroluminescent dash does work from time to time, but we have not looked at it closely to investigate why it cuts out. Power antenna, seats, windows, front and rear blower motors function as they should. Passenger window occassionaly will not roll down but always goes up. Car will need tires as they are dry rotted bias plies.

Car is a pleasure to drive and gets stares as if it's a UFO. Stops beautifully with 12" drums and floats over bumps. Road Runner cam provides plenty of vacuum for accessories and does not have a lumpy idle. This is a wonderful oppurtunity to own a very rare piece of Mopar history to restore and enjoy immediately. We are selling to be able to finish a 1961 Fury Hardtop we have had for an equal amount of time.

Marchionne backs off merger plans, could retire after 2018

Tue, Jan 5 2016

FCA boss Sergio Marchionne is stepping back from plans to attempt a major auto industry merger like the oft-speculated deal with General Motors last year. According to Bloomberg, Marchionne now wants to grow his automaker through 2018, and then the 63-year-old could retire around the end of that year. Marchionne claims he received merger proposals last year, but he couldn't find an attractive enough partnership. "We went back to concentrate on the 2018 plan which would boost Fiat Chrysler's value and its position in a deal," he said to Bloomberg. He still believes that a big merger is possible, but "it will be someone else's duty," he said after previously hinting about possibly staying at FCA until 2020. Marchionne was clear that any chance for the GM merger was likely over. "I met Mary Barra less than a month ago in Washington," he told Bloomberg. "I don't think I will have another coffee with her. It won't happen again in the future." Now, the boss intends to spend the rest of his time at FCA building the automaker through its five-year plan, and his goal is to grow global deliveries to seven million units a year by 2018. To make that happen, the automaker will invest around $52 billion over that time to improve its brands' product slate. Marchionne began backtracking from the possible GM merger late in 2015 after it became clear that The General's board wasn't interested. Earlier in the year, he seemed more aggressive about the prospect by suggesting a hostile takeover with a bizarre metaphor about giving the company a hug. Marchionne on Alfa's US return, Dodge Dart's powertrain weakness and minivan plans

Fri, 18 Jan 2013

As a reporter covering an auto show, the one opportunity you never want to miss is going to the Sergio Marchionne press briefing.
"This undertaking to bring Alfa back is a one-shot deal... We are not going to do this twice."
There just aren't that many real characters left in the auto industry. Marchionne, who sits atop both Chrysler and Fiat, is not only one of the smartest execs in the business, but also the most frank. Herein, a sample of the quotable always-sweatered executive:

Four-horse race opens up for next Chrysler-Fiat CEO

Mon, 16 Dec 2013

There are some companies that could change leadership overnight and still remain more or less the operations that they are. But some have built themselves up around one central figure. Just ask Carlos Tavares, who found he couldn't escape the long shadow of Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. Tavares recently left to find his own limelight. But Ghosn isn't the only executive who presides over two disparate automakers on opposite ends of the globe.
Having built up Fiat and Chrysler around himself, we can hardly imagine either automaker getting along without Sergio Marchionne. But the day will come when the famously sweater-clad bigwig will step down. The pressing questions remain when when that day will come, and who will take his place. The only solid clues we have are in the statements made mostly by Marchionne himself, but those statements have been all over the place. When speaking to Automotive News in 2012, he said he would step down "no earlier than 2013, no later than 2015." But a year later, he had already seemingly changed his tune, indicating he could still be at the helm in 2016. Fiat chairman John Elkann seems to think Marchionne, 61, could and should stay on longer.
