1978 Chevrolet Suburban Silverado Trailering Special.  This Suburban was special ordered as a two wheel drive 3/4 ton with the rare trailering special option which included, one ton suspension,  4.10 gears, heavy duty springs, shocks, front and rear sway bars, bigger front disc and rear drum brakes, heavy duty tow hitch, trailer brake module and wiring harness. This truck with this option was installed with the LF8 454 which had different heads and cam for more torque and did not have all the smog equipment. The motor was rebuilt 40K ago. It has a MX1 Turbo 400 transmission that has been upgraded with a shift kit for firmer shifts. It also has from the factory a heavy duty transmission cooler and engine oil cooler. This makes it rated at 11,000 GCW (gross combined weight). It is also equipped with dual exhaust as well which is new. The options are as follows, power steering, power brakes, HEI ignition, deluxe air conditioning which blows ice cold, electric tailgate window, soft-ray glass which is all perfect, tilt steering, cruise control, headlamp warning buzzer, tachometer, deluxe cloth interior, am/fm stereo, door edge guards, 40 gallon fuel tank, chrome grill, chrome front bumper guards,  Silverado option,  drip moldings and two tone paint. This Suburban has 164K on the odometer and runs great, starts up on cold mornings with the choke on and comes to idle when it warms up. Factory wheels, deluxe caps and new tires with warranty. The headliner and front carpet are all new and the rest of the interior looks amazing! On the drivers seat upright, the fabric is starting to split, this fabric is still available. Now for the outside, this Suburban is real straight for its age, most of the paint is original and very presentable, the hood is thin but glossy like no tomorrow, even the door jams are perfect.  There is a little rust under the driver door rocker panel but it is very minor. The right rear lower quarter panel has a small amount of bubbling as well, but again, very minor. The chrome is amazing throughout and the rear bumper is new. This truck comes with all of the history, window sticker, build sheet, service parts identification decal, owners manual, maintenance schedule and all service and repair records. This truck is an excellent candidate for a tow vehicle for your race car, horses, travel trailer, utility trailer, or whatever you desire and in all confidence!! Special ordered and purchased new from Murray Chevrolet in Gresham, Or. I purchased this truck from the original family 10 years ago. Every time I take it out, it draws a crowd of people who can't believe the condition. It has been stored in doors it's whole life and it shows.  If your in the market for an early Suburban that tows, thats in amazing condition, look no further, this is a find.

Chevy Silverado gets star-studded treatment at SEMA

Tue, Nov 3 2015

Chevrolet has quite a presence ready for the 2015 SEMA Show, including custom takes on the Camaro and Spark. As one of the company's most popular models, the Silverado isn't left out of the fun, either, thanks to a trio of concepts to highlight what's possible for the aftermarket event. Camouflage is supposed to blend in, but the naval-inspired, Razzle Dazzle design on the Silverado Special Ops Concept should make the truck pop under the lights at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Based on a Silverado 1500 Z71, the pickup is conceived as a "rescue vehicle special-operations forces." To get behind enemy lines, it packs extra LED lighting, wheel flares for off-road tires, and a GearOn utility rack in the bed. Plus to help get away, Chevy Performance fits an air intake, exhaust kit, and concept six-piston brakes. The Silverado Realtree Bone Collector Concept (above) also wears camo for SEMA, but it's for enjoying the outdoors rather than getting out of battle. Camouflage company Realtree and The Bone Collector host Michael Waddell help with the design for this custom truck that features 22-inch black wheels, a front push bar, LED light bar, and assist steps all from Chevy Accessories. With leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto inside, the drive to and from the woods should be comfortable, as well. The Silverado 3500HD Kid Rock Concept rounds out this trio and features patriotic styling from the eponymous rock star. "I wanted the design for the truck to be bold, but with features and elements that wouldn't be out of reach for working-class guys," he said about the design, and Kid Rock even visited the factory in Flint, MI, to meet members from UAW Local 598 for some inspiration. The result features a custom chrome grille with a Born Free logo and chrome exhaust stacks. For added excitement, two Gibbs Sports Quadskis are hooked up on the trailer behind it. It is based on the Silverado 1500 Z71, which features a new front-end design and new technologies built into its strong, high-strength steel body structure and fully boxed frame, and draws its design inspiration from naval design aesthetics.

GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible

Wed, Aug 1 2018

The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else? National Corvette Museum to recreate sinkhole experience for patrons [UPDATE]

Sun, May 10 2015

UPDATE: The Thunderdome at the National Corvette Museum is not a ride; instead it's an experience that mixes digital graphics and thundering sound. For a brief period, it looked like the National Corvette Museum was going to preserve that sinkhole that ate eight important 'Vettes last year. After all, tourism boomed there afterwards. However, keeping the crater would have been more expensive than just doing the repairs. The museum isn't ready to let people completely forget, though, and now intends to make a major attraction out of a recreated version of the calamity. The museum's plan turns the sinkhole disaster into an amusement park ride called the Thunderdome, according to GM Authority. In a smaller recreation of the Skydome, 15 people at a time would get to watch an imitation of the sinkhole devouring the eight Corvettes. To make the experience even more immersive, visitors would get to view this all from an artificial, underground cave. If you missed seeing the actual pit, this would certainly be a bizarre way to experience it. According to GM Authority, the exhibit would also include an explanation of how sinkholes occur. The Corvette museum reportedly wants the attraction open by this fall.
