Chevrolet Other on 2040-cars
Lowell, Oregon, United States
This is my personal driver that I have owned since 1998, built it, and started driving it in late 1999. The miles shown are what it shows today...kinda funny to me. :) I set it to zero when I completed it. I started with a very clean, rust free truck. This has been an awesome truck and I would love to keep it, but I am building it's replacement. It is for sale locally, and it may be pulled if I get the right offer. Yes, it is a factory GMC. I listed it as a Chevy because there are more lookers!I have used this in my local courier service (no employees have driven it), and I have used it to tow my car trailer to haul cars for friends, family, and me. It is set up to haul: This truck is powered by a fresh Chevrolet 396 Big Block. It has Edelbrock aluminum heads, and roller rockers. Allegedly close to 500 hp (by the motor builder), but not verified. Also fresh is the built to tow 700R4 overdrive trans, When I say fresh, I mean within the last 500 miles. In March, I noticed a lack of power off the line. Took it to my transmission guy who diagnosed a dead cylinder--burnt valve. I had this other 396 for another project, and swapped it in! Well, it turns out the planetary gear was bad in the trans, so we went through that, too. The rear end is a narrow (1957?) Ford 9-inch. It is a posi, with I believe 411 gears. I installed those about 5k ago. The rear suspension is leaf spring, with Firestone Bags that I only air up when I tow. It is equipped with a receiver hitch hidden behind an aluminum license plate holder. Trailer brake controller under the dash. Equipped with two gas tanks holding approximately 30 gallons. Hagan gas door on the drivers rear fender. The front suspension is a TCI Mustang II set-up. Power rack, front power disc brakes, of course. Everyone who rides in it is amazed at how well it rides and drives. Two year old exhaust, Flowmaster 50's. Exterior: One year only grill. Shaved door handles--poppers replaced in May. The first Muth Signal Mirrors custom built at the time. Frenched 41-48 Chevy passenger car L.E.D. tail lights. Paint: A few flaws here and there, no rust. The graphics are specific to my business. If you are in another state and want me to leave this airbrushed art, I will. I will remove it for any buyer at my expense, just ask. I will not leave the artwork intact for an Oregon buyer, however, when I sold my 29 Delivery painted similarly, I took it to the artist and just made a few changes. The custom plates do not come with the truck . . . Interior: A little wear and tear, because I use it. It is not a showcar, however, it did take a best of show in 2000. Bucket seats, console, overhead cd player, high dollar interior when it was done--not merely cheap paneling like most panels. In 2012 I replaced the aluminum 15 inch wheels and Briz aluminum bumpers. It now sports chrome bumpers and 17 front, 18 rear Foose Wheels. Tires will be brand new when you pick it up to drive it home--it will also have two full tanks of gas...

2023 Chevrolet Silverado HD reportedly getting mammoth torque
Wed, Sep 15 2021Chevrolet just gave the light-duty Silverado a significant round of updates. It hasn't detailed the changes it has in store for the heavy-duty model yet, but a recent report claims the truck will arrive with significant engine upgrades. Without citing sources, website TFL Truck reported that the current pickup's 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V8 will return in the updated model. Its displacement won't increase, but its output will reportedly grow to 505 horsepower and a mammoth 1,085 pound-feet of torque. To put those figures into perspective, the 6.6-liter makes 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of twist in the 2022 Silverado HD; GMC's Sierra HD is available with it as well. Bumping the Duramax's output is a way to keep up with the competition. Arch nemesis Ford offers buyers who have extremely heavy things to tow 475 horsepower and 1,050 pound-feet of torque from a 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8. Over at Ram, the most powerful engine available in a heavy-duty truck posts numbers of 420 and 1,075, respectively. If the report is accurate, Chevrolet will enviably take the horsepower and the torque crowns in the segment. What remains to be seen is what effect the increases will have on the Silverado's towing capacity. As of writing, it's capable of towing up to 36,000 pounds (approximately 15 times the weight of a 2021 Mazda MX-5 Miata). Moving out of the engine bay, the 2023 Silverado HD will receive an updated exterior design that will again help differentiate it from the smaller, light-duty model. We're expecting the next round of updates will also bring new tech features, and it's reasonable to assume that the trim structure will evolve; Chevrolet might notably shift the HD in a more outdoorsy direction to satisfy a growing demand for off-road-focused trucks in the United States. None of this is official; Chevrolet is keeping its lips sealed about the updated Silverado HD. Full details will likely emerge in the coming months, and sales are tentatively scheduled to start in time for the 2023 model year.
GM opens official investigation into C8 Corvette transmission leaks
Mon, Nov 1 2021In March 2020, a month after Chevrolet began customer deliveries of the 2020 C8 Corvette, a GM dealer technician created a Reddit thread about a leaking gearbox in a Corvette with 32 miles. That car hadn't even been sold yet. Since then, as a search of "C8 Corvette transmission leak" shows, it's been tales of woe for some owners. Something in the Tremec TR-9080 transaxle in the back of the mid-engined Corvette doesn't work as it should, the fault able to cause codes that the transmission needs service, or that the driver needs to shift to park. In some cases, the battery would die because of follow-on issues after the initial transmission code, that code preventing the car from powering down. As Autoevolution reports, GM filed paperwork with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in August to look into what's going on. Between forum threads and GM's investigation document, there are several issues mentioned. The most common appears to be the dual-clutch transmission leaking fluid due to gasket failures like the one suffered by one owner at 858 miles, and another for an owner currently enduring a second leaking transmission. The Midengined Corvette Forum reported that Chevy engineers redesigned the TR-9080 pan, fitting Corvettes with the new unit at some point in the 2021 model year. The original pan was stamped steel unit affixed to the engine with two studs and 13 bolts, plus "reinforcement plates." The updated pan is said to be a cast aluminum unit affixed with two studs and 17 bolts, omits the reinforcement plates, and gets a new machined new groove around its edge to seat the gasket seal. The GM paperwork now at the NHTSA mentions a P1789 code, and says one reason for it could be "debris on the park position sensor magnet causing an incorrect position reading to the TCM." This might be caused by another issue mentioned in forums, which is clogged transmission filters. GM gives instructions for returning transmission filters to the company, and a poster on one forum said the Corvette tech at the dealer where he bought his Corvette told him the automaker "requires every used transmission filter to be returned to GM." Whatever's going on, the problems haven't stopped, and they go beyond the P1789 code. Over the weekend, a 2022 Corvette owner posted on Corvette Forums that he got a check engine light on his car after just 850 miles.
Chevy Camaro is a good sport, wishes Ford Mustang Happy 50th
Tue, 15 Apr 2014It was 1966 when Chevrolet launched its challenger to the wildly successful Ford Mustang, the Camaro. While the competition between the two brands was already healthy, the arrival of the Camaro set off one of the most intense, model-to-model rivalries in the industry.
That competitive spirit hasn't stopped Chevy and the Camaro from wishing Ford's iconic muscle car a Happy 50th Birthday as the Ford's April 17 anniversary rolls around. These two cars have been linked over the years, and while the rivalry took a break for a few years in the 2000s, today's competition between the Camaro and Mustang is as fierce as it's ever been.
You might recall that this friendliness when it comes to major milestones isn't too rare. Ford put on quite a display for General Motors' hundredth anniversary back in 2008. As the Camaro's fiftieth birthday approaches in 2016, we wouldn't be surprised to see the Mustang sending its best wishes to its Bowtie rival.
