This 1990 Chevrolet Cheyenne 3500 4x4 diesel 1-ton dually military ambulance truck is a unique and rare vehicle, with an incredibly low 454 actual miles. This is not a typo. Not 4540, not 45,400, not 454,000, but four hundred and fifty-four, period. It is to all intents and purposes a brand-new truck.

It was purchased from a Government auction. It had been in storage for several years at the Marine Corps Base in Camp Pendleton near San Diego. It had never seen active duty and was only driven for short distances around the base, hence the amazingly low miles.

It came with a government sticker showing the original purchase price of $37,409.

It’s powered by a 6.2 liter diesel engine and an automatic transmission, and factory-equipped with four wheel drive. Because it’s a diesel, it never needs to be smogged.

The truck is in perfect mechanical condition and it runs beautifully, just as you would expect for a vehicle that is practically new. I would not hesitate to drive it from Tierra del Fuego to the Arctic Circle and back again.

It was gone over thoroughly to make sure there were no mechanical issues from the years of storage. It received six new Nexen Roadian AT II tires, a full tune-up, new battery, new fuel pump, and all fluids were changed. Also, the old R-12 air conditioning was converted to R-134a, and it blows ice-cold.

The original military green paint still has a nice shine. However, the clearcoat is peeling on the hood and top of the left fender, and some of the paint on the rear door hinges is chipped. Also, all of the doors have military insignia which were spray-painted over before they auctioned it.

The body is almost perfect, with a few small dings, but no dents, rust, or bondo. There are a few traces of very minor surface rust on the underside, no doubt because of Camp Pendleton’s proximity to the ocean. Also, the front roof vent cover is rusted through.

The interior is like new. The only defect is a couple of incisions in the rubber floormat, where something was apparently installed and then removed.

The rear ambulance section is constructed of lightweight, sturdy aluminum, including the interior panels. The two top gurneys can easily be detached and slide right out.

All of the original equipment is intact and operational, except for the front-mounted spotlight. The red beacon on top revolves and can be seen for miles, a great safety feature. The bank of overhead switches controls these functions: floodlight, AC/heat blower, patient lights, beacon, suction, exhaust vent, and intake vent. Even the suction machine works, and I’m sure someone can find a good use for it!

This truck would make an awesome custom expedition vehicle, toy hauler, and/or RV. But if you’re a military vehicle collector, you’ll never find one as pristine and original as this.

It has a clean title and current registration through February 2014. If you have any questions or you’d like to see it, please call Brian at 818-961-6760. The truck is located in West Hills, less than an hour away from either LAX or Burbank airports.

Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt's new, improved powertrain; Inabikari wants to build Tesla Model X fighter

Thu, Nov 6 2014

We knew the 2016 Chevrolet Volt's new powertrain would provide more range, but we didn't know how much. According to GM's Executive Director Larry Nitz, it is about 12 percent more, overall. "I can't think of a powertrain we've re-engineered more extensively within a five-year period than this one," he said. The battery, electric drive system and gasoline generator have all been reworked to allow for an overall driving range of up to 425 miles, with electric range speculated to reach 42 miles or more. The new Volt will also benefit from 20 percent quicker low-end acceleration, weight reductions and improvements in NVH. Read more at Hybrid Cars and at the SAE website. Hyundai's FCEV research and development boss, Dr. Sae-Hoon Kim, is optimistic about the future of hydrogen mobility in Japan. With the Tucson Fuel Cell already in production ahead of Toyota's FCV, Hyundai has a foothold in the hydrogen car scene. Kim believes that since the Fukushima disaster, Japan's attitudes toward energy make it friendly to a growing hydrogen economy. He also says that hydrogen won't be limited to Hyundai, with Kia getting all the battery EVs. "Both types are for both companies," Kim says. "For the moment, volumes are small and it is not wise to have Hyundai and Kia competing." Read more at Just Auto. The Latvian/German startup Inabikari is using crowdfunding to build an electric crossover for Europe. The Rev.01 EV hopes to compete with Tesla's upcoming Model X with a range of over 400 miles and a five-second 0-60 time. The group currently is trying to raise initial funds through an Indiegogo campaign, with hopes of more investment in the future and sales beginning in 2017. See the video below, and read more at Hybrid Cars and at the Inabikari website. Fuel economy and emissions regulations could lead to some interesting design changes to automobiles. The World Light Duty Test Procedure, set to replace the New European Driving Cycle in 2017, will push automakers to find new ways to reduce drag on their vehicles. For better aerodynamics, we could see traditional side-view mirrors replaced by cameras that display what they see on screens inside the vehicle. Another likely change will be the introduction of smaller, narrower wheels. Improving the average drag coefficient from 0.32 to 0.20 could reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 20 percent. Chevrolet Silverado reportedly getting the GMC Sierra's MultiPro tailgate

Mon, Aug 17 2020

GMC reinvented the pickup tailgate when it added a six-way option named MultiPro to the current-generation Sierra it introduced in 2019. It kept this clever feature to itself as a way to differentiate the Sierra from the Chevrolet Silverado, but a recent report claims it will begin sharing it in the not-too-distant future. Enthusiast website GM Authority learned from anonymous sources familiar with Chevrolet's product plans that the Silverado will soon receive its own version of the MultiPro tailgate. It will be called either MultiFlex or Multi-Flex, a name Chevrolet has already trademarked, and it was initially scheduled to make its debut for the 2021 model year. Its arrival might be delayed until the 2022 model year due to the coronavirus pandemic, however. Chevrolet's Silverado and GMC's Sierra are nearly identical under the sheet metal, so adding the latter's six-way tailgate to the former will be a relatively straightforward and cost-effective process. Interestingly, GM Authority wrote engineers could add a seventh function to the tailgate, though it didn't reveal what they have in store. It's also not sure whether both trucks will get the new feature, or if it will exclusively be offered on the Chevrolet. 2022 will bring major updates to the Silverado and the Sierra, potentially including — as we've previously reported — an independent rear suspension. Interior upgrades will allegedly be part of the mid-cycle changes, too, but we still don't know if the Silverado will receive the tough carbon fiber cargo box available in the Sierra. In the meantime, motorists in the market for a Sierra will temporarily have fewer options to choose from. GMC has asked its dealers to stop taking orders for the regular- and double-cab variants of the truck, according to a separate report from GM Authority. Putting the slower-selling regular- and double-cab trucks on hiatus will allow dealers to build up their inventory of crew-cabs, which sell far better and are in relatively short supply. These restrictions will remain in effect until the 2021 model year, which starts on September 14 for double- and crew-cab models and on September 21 for regular-cab trucks. All three body styles will be available in 2021. Related Video:

Sunday Drive: Performance comes in many shapes and sizes

Sun, Nov 19 2017

The Chevrolet Corvette has always stood out as a bastion of reasonably priced performance, and the latest 'Vette has that in spades. And while its expected starting price of around $120,000 certainly isn't cheap, it's an undeniable deal in the supercar world – remember, this thing'll do 210 miles per hour thanks to its 755-horsepower supercharged V8 engine. And did you get a load of that massive rear wing? Team Corvette's longtime foe, the Porsche 911, is similarly hellbent on ultimate performance. And as a reminder of how long the Corvette/911 rivalry has been melting tires we present the 1990 Porsche 911 as reimagined by Singer you see below. It's beautiful, it's green, and it's packing 500 air-cooled horsepower. You don't have to burn gasoline to go fast, as proven by the second-generation Tesla Roadster, which was revealed as a surprise late last week. Elon Musk says it'll be the quickest car in the world with a 0-60 time of just 1.9 seconds. And while you may not think of a semi truck when you think speed, the Tesla Semi can do 0-60 in 5 seconds flat unloaded, or in 20 seconds with a load of 80,000 pounds. Compared to today's crop of diesel semis, that's amazing. Continuing the truck theme, we present an artists rendering of what the next-generation Ram 1500 pickup may look like. Spoiler alert: Ram's mini-semi look is giving way to something much more modern. There may even be a first-of-its-kind split tailgate at the rear. And if you don't think the Ram 1500 has anything to do with performance, we should remind you that it's one of the cheapest ways to get a tire-shredding Hemi V8 engine in America. 2019 Chevy Corvette ZR1: All hail the 755-horsepower C7 king This is the first Porsche 911 to get Singer and Williams' 500-horsepower engine Tesla Roadster surprise reveal | 'Quickest car in the world' Tesla Semi Truck revealed: Here are the key details This could be the next-generation 2019 Ram 1500 2019 Ram 1500 spotted with split tailgate
