this truck belongs to my granddaughter, her other grandfather left it to her when he passed away about 7 years ago when she was 8 .she  does not want the truck to drive so I am helping her sell it. when he first restored the truck he drove it often .and in parades about 3 or 4 times a year. after he passed the family still drove it in the  parades . i guess everyone lost interest and it sat for the last 3 years. I brought it to my house to clean it up and get it ready to sale, when I discovered the engine was cracked beside the petcock. what a shame because it had the original 216 in it. luckily he had a couple 6cyl engines sitting in his garage . so I got a 1956 235 and dropped it in. I really don't know any thing about the engine except what I could see and what I was told by a family member. he said it had been rebuilt .it does look to have a new valve pan gasket as well as a new head gasket. I installed a new fuel pump ,new plugs , new water pump, and because they are hard to find a new water pump pulley ( aluminum) and a new starter switch (solenoid) new fan belt and new lower radiator hose. I used the original 3 speed which had a very good clutch ,pressure plate and throw out bearing. the battery is shot so to get it started I drop in a 12 volt . after  a couple of turns and a shot of gas it starts . it runs pretty good but the carb takes a little feathering to get it going.it is a solid lift engine so it rattles when you start it but as it warms it sound better. the truck is very very very solid I found 1 hole in the floor in front of the battery lid. the bed needs attention . when he restored the truck he put a lot of new parts on it including new bumpers , new headlight trims , new tailgate chains , new mirror, new seat , new floor mat and insulation ,new patch panel at the shifter ( fiberglass) ,new turn signal switch , new door panels ( not in good shape now) ,and probably some things I am leaving out. it has the 2 piece 8 lug rims .glass is not broken , but turning around the edges . no bondo that I can tell .guy who painted it did a lousy job. dash looks vantastic , glove box opens ,brakes work pretty good but while I was under it I saw where the pass rear was blocked off , wheel cyl probably bad, but still stops . I would buy this truck myself but because I am married into the family I would not buy it for 20,000$ because of what some would say. with that being said there can be no trades  for the same reason. and she is not yet old enough to make a decision on a trade, so an auction is the only fair way to do it . I will assist with shipping as much as I can(which does not mean ill haul it 500 miles) but if I move it ,it has to be on Saturday .and we have to fully agree on price and distance BEFORE the auction ends and not 5 minutes before either. I am a nice guy ,but I don't have time for your low ball offers or your emails about how you can buy one cheaper. I have what I consider a reasonable reserve but if the auction ends 25$ below the reserve I may contact the high bidder  , but if AND I MEAN IF YOU HAVE A SERIOUS QUESTION you can call my cell 606-224-0370 from 7 to 6 .otherwise email me and ill get back to you that evening. thanks for your interest.

On Nov-06-13 at 13:14:45 PST, seller added the following information:

forgot, I will include original engine and all left over parts, in case someone might want to restore it .( block could be brazed if you've a mind to )it did run fine. also if the weather permits Saturday I will pull the carb and clean it ,buy I know the leather pump is dry rotted. this truck is by no means junk, the body is very strait and as best I can tell rust free with the exception of the one hole in the floor. there is enough metal in this truck to make 2 more by todays standard. you will not be disappointed with this truck, if its not what I say you don't own it. I have 20 more pictures so if you need to se something email me and ill send more . thanks

GM alerting truck and sedan owners to a do-over on brake recall

Wed, Jan 29 2020

A recall campaign intended to address issues with braking systems on certain 2019 General Motors trucks and sedans may have introduced a new issue, the automaker has acknowledged, and thousands of owners driving repaired vehicles may need to return to their service departments for another update.  The update addresses a fix that was pushed out to owners of more than half a million brand-new GM trucks and sedans that could potentially lose partial braking function, according to the Detroit Free Press. The original software fix helped address situations where the vehicles' anti-lock braking systems would become disabled, which in turn would prevent electronic stability control from activating. Vehicles subject to the recall would often experience software glitches that prevented them from properly communicating the operational state of these systems, meaning drivers would have no idea that their brakes may not behave as expected in an emergency. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Cadillac CT6, and GMC Sierra 1500 were all recalled in the original campaign.  Unfortunately, the early version of this fix appears to have introduced yet another software glitch, indicating that the original fix did not do the trick. Those who have not yet had their cars serviced can rest easy; they will only receive the most up-to-date version of the software fix.  Related video

What car should James Robertson buy to drive his famous 21-mile commute?

Thu, Feb 5 2015

The Internet has been abuzz this week with the story of Detroit resident James Robertson, the 56-year-old factory worker who has walked some 21 miles to work for the last 10 years. The Detroit Free Press brought Robertson's story to the fore, helping an online fundraising campaign to generate more than $275,000 (as of this writing). The original goal was just $5,000, or about enough to replace the used Honda that died on Robertson back in 2005, and left him walking. So, newly flush with funds, what's the perfect car for Robertson to buy? Let's look at the specifics of his situation, and try to pick out the best options. Here's what we know: Robertson's commute is (famously) 21 miles; he lives in downtown Detroit (for now) and seems pretty humble, so something very flashy is probably out; former Honda aside, his ties to the city (and statements about being a Ford fan) seem to indicate a Detroit Three company product is best; he's a single guy with a girlfriend; he's got to deal with Michigan weather, and the sometimes fickle snow removal processes in The D. Here are some choices: Ford F-150 Robertson is on record as being a Taurus fan, and after a decade of walking I've no doubt that the big sedan would offer a cozy respite. Still, as a car guy and a student of the industry, I'd have a hard time recommending a sedan so clearly in need of replacement. Especially when The Blue Oval has such great stuff within the rest of its roster. The 2015 F-150 seems almost perfect for Robertson. Opting for either of the new EcoBoost V6 engines should help keep fuel bills in reasonable check, while healthy ride height and four-wheel drive will get him to work on time even during the snowiest of snow days. Better still, with a fat options sheet and car-like ride quality, Robertson can have just about every amenity he might want, in a package that won't disrespect his blue-collar roots. Chevrolet Colorado You guys saw this one coming, right? The smaller footprint of the midsize Chevy pickup, relative to some of the other options here, should be an advantage for urban parking and driving. And again, 4x4 is an option for the nasty weather, the running costs should stay pretty low and there aren't many tech/luxury features that can't be had in-cabin. I'd go ahead and splash out on the Crew Cab bodystyle, too, just in case Robertson feels like starting a carpool.

So, how do you actually pronounce that automaker's name?

Thu, Jan 21 2016

You probably have that friend who always says Porsche wrong, or maybe it's someone who keeps reminding you it's actually two syllables. Whichever side of the pronunciation debate you fall on, you'll find someone to root for in the video above. And before you ask, this was all the video team's idea. So don't get mad at me for being the voice of reason. BMW Chevrolet Hyundai Nissan Rolls-Royce Videos Original Video nissan qashqai
