Equipment list and description: 1983 Chevrolet C20 Fleetside - Silverado Trim Build completed January 24, 1983 in Oshawa, Canada Midnight blue two-tone, with white roof, blue vinyl interior LT9 5.7L/350 c.i. 4BBL carburated V8 (160 HP/250 TQ) TH400 3-speed automatic transmission 8600 GVWR tow rating (no catalytic converters, factory option) 3.42 Rear axle ratio (GQ1 option code) 131” wheelbase Options: Trailering Special Package (power steering, oil cooler, transmission cooler, 7-pin trailer harness, trailer hitch receiver, 63 Amp HD alternator) Dual fuel tanks (40 gallon capacity) Sliding rear window AC Delco AM/FM Stereo Intermittent Wipers Roof marker lights Floormats All sentimental value aside, this really isn’t your average 100K mi+ American hauler that’s been owned by several careless owners. It hasn't been ridden hard, put it away filthy, and left it to rot. Not at all. This particular example, while not in impeccable showroom shape, is in incredible condition for being a truck that just celebrated it’s 30th birthday. In the eyes of the state of New Jersey, it qualifies as a classic. And the mileage? Equally as impressive. Only 53,540 miles grace the odometer on this fine piece of American iron. Why the low mileage? Well, this truck has never been daily driven. It was special ordered in 1982 for the primary purpose of towing a horse trailer back and forth to the trainer and the race track. Aside from hauling race horses; It has been used for truck stuff. The bed has hauled new furniture, old furniture, lawn and garden supplies and equipment, construction supplies, and even groceries. So, it’s been used, but never abused, and it’s always been parked out of the elements in a pole barn garage for the past 30 years. The exterior of the truck is in great condition and has great curb appeal, with the midnight blue paint being in excellent shape for it’s age. There are only a few minor scuffs and chips here and there, but nothing major. It’s never been in an accident, and it’s never had any paintwork done. Inside, the truck is immaculate, with the dash, seats, door panels, and carpet original and spotless, and devoid of holes or cracks. The original color-matched vinyl floor mats are in great shape. All lights, switches, and gauges are operational, and the AC Delco AM/FM stereo works without a hitch, although it takes a bit of getting used to when compared to the digital systems of the modern age. As far as the greasy bits go, it's been well maintained and taken care of over the years, the drivetrain has never been pulled nor replaced, and all service records will come with the truck, along with the owners manual, options spec sheet, and original keys. The truck starts, runs, and drives extremely well, with none of the rattles and squeaks you typically hear from trucks this age. Although the inspection expired in 2012, it last passed with flying colors, and it's been kept on a battery tender while in storage, and I've started and pulled the truck out of parking periodically to keep the fluids circulating. I will address a few minor imperfections. Under the hood, there are some minor oil leaks from the valve covers. There is one piece of trim missing in the photos, it just needs to be reattached with double-sided tape, it's included with the truck behind the driver's seat. There’s no rust on the body save for one small spot behind the passenger rear wheel, but the entire body and frame was undercoated and rustproofed when the truck was purchased in 1983. Inside, the headliner fabric will need to be reattached, as it’s sagging, but otherwise the interior is in phenomenal shape. Also, the right front caliper sticks a bit and will need to be addressed before the truck can travel very far, and I would also recommend an oil change. That being said, the problems listed are minor and easily repaired, and this truck deserves to be more than someone’s rusty old scrap hauler, or a derelict farm beater. Somewhere out there, there’s someone who has a soft spot for these old GM pickups, much like myself, and this is a great, clean example ready for someone to appreciate and care for it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, I will do my best to answer them to the best of my ability as quickly as I can. This is an as-is sale. No refunds, returns, or exchanges will be accepted. Buyer assumes all responsibility for local pick-up or transport. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. This truck has been re-listed due to a non-paying buyer. Thanks for viewing! Photos: Thanks for viewing! |

2016 Chevy Colorado Duramax gets 31 mpg highway
Mon, Nov 9 2015The 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Duramax and its similarly diesel-powered GMC Canyon sibling are the most fuel-efficient new trucks on the market in America. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates 31 miles per gallon highway, 22 mpg city, and 25 mpg combined for two-wheel-drive Colorado and Canyon diesels. That's just good enough to take the pickup fuel-economy title from the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel HFE, which carries EPA estimates of 29 mpg highway, 21 mpg city, and 24 mpg combined. Four-wheel-drive models offer slightly lower economy figures of 29/20/23, respectively. Drivers can cover quite some distance, too – the GM twins' 21-gallon tanks mean a maximum range of 651 miles.
Your browser does not support iframes.
Diesel's reputation may be somewhat tarnished in the US after Volkswagen's emissions scandal, but Chevy wants to assure potential customers that there are no tricks with the Colorado's figures. The pickup's engine features NOx-reducing tech like exhaust gas recirculation, and the EPA and California Air Resources Board recently chose the truck to take the additional step of real-world emissions tests. The 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder with 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque had no problems with the more stringent evaluation, and "the agency expressed no issues or concerns," according to the company's statement. The diesel Colorado goes on sale this fall, and the Duramax costs $3,730 over a similarly equipped V6 model. We've gone ahead and included dueling press releases from both Chevy and GMC below for your reading pleasure. The EPA-estimated highway fuel economy for 2016 Colorado four-wheel drive diesel is 29 mpg. The EPA has issued a Certificate of Conformity for the Chevrolet Colorado Duramax diesel. The agency expressed no issues or concerns following its recent extensive testing and evaluation of the emission control system on the Colorado Duramax diesel.
GM recalls 55,000 trucks, SUVs for separating axles, fuel pump failures
Mon, Feb 13 2023General Motors issued four separate recalls covering eight of its truck and SUV models for issues related to fuel pump and half-shaft failure. In total, the four campaigns include more than 55,000 vehicles spread out over three brands and six model years, but they've sorted themselves neatly into two categories. Let's dive in. Axle separation Four models are being recalled for potential axle separation: The 2023 Cadillac XT5, 2023 GMC Acadia, 2023 Chevy Blazer and 2023 Chevy Traverse. The number of units affected is incredibly small (10 units each times two recalls, for a total potential population of just 20 cars). In each case, a small number left the factory with half-shaft assemblies that may have been missing the retention rings that keep them in place, possibly allowing the axles to separate or eject from the transmission. In the case of the XT5 and Acadia, it's the right-side axle assembly; Chevy dealers, however, will have to check the left side. Fuel pump failure Again, we have multiple vehicles being recalled for similar issues, but in this case they're a bit more distinct. The first of these recalls covers the 2021-2022 Chevy Equinox and 2022 GMC Terrain. GM says a supplier-initiated change may have led to fuel pumps shipping with inadequate clearances to allow for the prescribed flow of fuel, meaning the pump could starve the engine. Customers experiencing the issue may see a check engine light and experience engine hesitation. In some cases, the cars may not start at all. Chevy and GMC will replace the units in question with correctly specified pumps. The second recall covers a fairly specific cross-section of GM's HD truck lines. 2017-2019 Silverado and Sierra HD trucks sold with the diesel engine and a dual-tank configuration may have shipped with a rear fuel pump that is susceptible to fouling by debris, preventing fuel from properly transferring to the front tank, or, in extreme cases, resulting in a collapse of the rear tank. This issue can lead to inaccurate/erratic fuel tank readings, engine hesitation, a check-engine light or failure to start. In both cases, GM will inspect and replace faulty units free of charge for customers. Expect notifications to be delivered by March. Related video: Recalls Cadillac Chevrolet GMC Ownership Safety Truck SUV
GM won't pay owners of recalled cars for lost value
Thu, 12 Jun 2014Kenneth Feinberg, the man in charge of the General Motors compensation fund dealing with the its widespread ignition switch woes, has issued an informal, two-letter response to the plaintiffs in more than 70 lawsuits seeking redress for lost resale value of their Cobalts: "No." The cases were recently combined into one, but Feinberg told The Detroit News that the fund will deal "only with death and physical injury claims," and that "perceived diminished value" will get no consideration.
ALG, the firm specializing in establishing residual values, determined that Cobalt owners had lost $300 compared to the segment competition and doesn't envision any long-term effects from the recall situation. Feinberg's statement comes in advance of public details on how the compensation fund will work and adheres to GM's long-held position on the matter. The company has already asked a judge to throw out such suits using the pre-bankruptcy defense, even as it stopped using that defense in cases of injury and death.
With plenty of potential gain from the GM suit, however, don't expect the plaintiffs to give up yet. When Toyota was sued for the same reason during the unintended acceleration debacle, it eventually settled the case for between $1 billion and $1.4 billion just to get it over with. Since the 85 law firms involved in the Toyota litigation took home more than $250 million of that total, we shouldn't expect the attorneys to give up on a GM payout, either.
