UP FOR SALE IS MY 1981 CHEVY LUV DIESEL. IT HAS 197,580 MILES AND RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT.  ITS A SHORT WHEEL BASE.   A/C HAS JUST BEEN SERVICED AND BLOWS COLD. IT HAS THE 2.2 ISUZU DIESEL ENGINE WITH A 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION.  IT HAS A CUSTOM MADE COLD AIR INTAKE WHICH IS THE ONLY THING THAT HAS BEEN DONE PERFORMANCE WISE. IT GETS AROUND 35MPG. IT IS A SHORT WHEEL BASE. IT IS A MIKADO SO IT IS A HIGHER OPTIONED TRUCK THAT COME WITH FACTORY POWER STEERING, AIR CONDITIONING, CARPETING, FULL DOOR PANELS WITH CARPETING ON THE BOTTOMS, AND A 5 SPEED MANUAL INSTEAD OF A 4 SPEED. THIS TRUCK ALSO HAS TINTED WINDOWS, TINTED FLIP UP/REMOVABLE SUNROOF, PIONEER CD PLAYER WITH AFTERMARKET SPEAKERS IN KICKPANELS AND SOUNDS GREAT.

IT HAS 6 WAY POWER AND HEATED LEATHER SEATS FROM A 2005 CHRYSLER CROSSFIRE THAT I GOT OFF OF EBAY FOR $400. I PUT THESE IN FOR MORE LEG ROOM SINCE I'M 6'1 TALL. (I DID NOT HOOK UP THE HEAT FOR THE SEATS) ALSO FOR MORE ROOM INSIDE THE CAB I CHANGED THE FACTORY STEERING WHEEL TO A LITTLE BIT SMALLER GRANT SIGNATURE WHEEL AND THIS ALSO MADE IT EASIER TO GET IN AND OUT OF THE TRUCK. HAS A BRAND NEW BLACK DASH MAT DASH COVER, NICE BLACK FACTORY CENTER CONSOLE, AND A HURST SHIFTER WHICH WAS CUSTOM MADE FOR THE TRUCK. I HAD THE TRUCK LOWERED ABOUT 2 INCHES ALL THE WAY AROUND AND PUT ON A NICE SET OF 18 INCH ESCALADE WHEELS. TIRES ARE STILL IN GREAT SHAPE.   I REPLACED THE FRONT PARKING LAMPS AND FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHTS IN THE FRONT BUMPER WITH BRAND NEW CLEAR ONES.  I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL AMBER LIGHTS AND ORIGINAL SHIFTER THAT WILL COME WITH THE TRUCK IF YOU WANT THEM.  ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF MECHANICALLY WRONG IS THAT IT HAS A SMALL FUEL LEAK SOMEWHERE AROUND THE INJECTION PUMP WHICH IS COMMON ON THESE LITTLE TRUCKS, BUT DOES NOT AFFECT THE WAY IT RUNS.  I'VE BEEN DRIVING IT LIKE THAT FOR OVER 6 MONTHS.

AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE PICS THE TRUCK IS PRETTY STRAIGHT WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A DING IN THE BOTTOM OF BED BEHIND THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL AND A FEW DINGS IN THE TAILGATE. I HAVE A NEAR PERFECT TAILGATE THAT WILL COME WITH THE TRUCK, AS WELL AS A BRAND NEW IN THE BOX STEEL ROLL PAN(PAID $150), AND BRAND NEW ACC GRAY CARPETING FOR THE INTERIOR(PAID $150). THE ONLY RUST IN THE BODY IS A SMALL SPOT ON THE SIDE OF THE BED BACK BY THE DRIVERS SIDE TAILIGHT(NOTE PIC), AND THERE ARE A FEW TINY RUST HOLES ON THE FLOOR OF THE BED NEAR THE TAILGATE WHICH IS WHY I PAINTED THE WHOLD INSIDE OF THE BED WITH RUSTOLEUM BLACK PAINT TO PREVENT ANY RUST.  ALSO WHEN I BOUGHT THE TRUCK THERE WERE A FEW SMALL HOLES IN THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD NEAR THE ROCKER PANEL WHICH I REPAIRED WITH FIBERGLASS AND IS GOOD TO GO. IM PRETTY SURE THE TRUCK MAY HAVE BEEN REPAINTED ONCE OVER THE YEARS AND STILL LOOKS DECENT. THESE TRUCKS ARE GETTING EXTREMELY HARD TO FIND AND MY ONLY REASON FOR SELLING IS BECAUSE I AM RELOCATING TO TEXAS SOON FOR WORK AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TAKE ALL MY CARS WITH ME.  THIS WILL MAKE SOMEONE A GREAT TRUCK!!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFO OR WANT TO COME AND HEAR IT RUN AND TEST DRIVE IT FEEL FREE TO CALL OR TEXT 501-SEVEN43-8601 ANYTIME BEFORE 10PM I HAVE A CLEAN AND CLEAR ARKANSAS TITLE IN HAND.  I DO HAVE THE TRUCK FOR SALE LOCALLY AND RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION EARLY IF NEEDED.

eBay Find of the Day: Mario Andretti's personal 2009 Corvette ZR1

Wed, Jan 7 2015

With victory in the the Indianapolis 500, a Formula 1 World Championship, a win in the Daytona 500 and too many other motorsports accomplishments to list, Mario Andretti stands among not just the greatest American racing drivers of all time, but the greatest drivers, full stop. Apparently, the champ is also a fan of speed when not on the track, because now there's a chance to own what is said tobe his personal 2009 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 with just 12,872 miles on the clock. The eBay Motors auction page clearly shows Mario Andretti standing with the car, but the rest of the ad is admittedly short on details. The vehicle history report lists only one previous owner – ostensibly Andretti. The exterior is a handsome Blade Silver Metallic accompanied by a Dark Titanium leather interior. However, the seller keeps additional information to a minimum as well with the description simply stating, "This 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1 is owned by Mario Andretti and has been garage kept all its life. It is fully loaded with all option on this car." The future buyer will get a seriously great car along with some huge bragging rights at any party by touting its ownership history. We've reached out to the seller for more particulars and provenance, and will update this story if we hear back. In the meantime, the auction for this C6 ends on Thursday, January 8, and currently the reserve isn't met. The price sits at a hefty $68,100 as of this writing, with six bids registered. Poor headlights cause 40 cars to miss IIHS Top Safety Pick rating

Mon, Aug 6 2018

Over the past few months, we've noticed a number of cars and SUVs that have come incredibly close to earning one of the IIHS's highest accolades, the Top Safety Pick rating. They have great crash test scores and solid automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning systems. What trips them up is headlights. That got us wondering, how many vehicles are there that are coming up short because they don't have headlights that meet the organization's criteria for an "Acceptable" or "Good" rating. This is a revision made after 2017, a year in which headlights weren't factored in for this specific award. This is also why why some vehicles, such as the Ford F-150, might have had the award last year, but have lost it for this year. We reached out to someone at IIHS to find out. He responded with the following car models. Depending on how you count, a whopping 40 models crash well enough to receive the rating, but don't get it because their headlights are either "Poor" or "Marginal." We say depending on how you count because the IIHS actual counts truck body styles differently, and the Infiniti Q70 is a special case. Apparently the version of the Q70 that has good headlights doesn't have adequate forward collision prevention technology. And the one that has good forward collision tech doesn't have good enough headlights. We've provided the entire list of vehicles below in alphabetical order. Interestingly, it seems the Volkswagen Group is having the most difficulty providing good headlights with its otherwise safe cars. It had the most models on the list at 9 split between Audi and Volkswagen. GM is next in line with 7 models. It is worth noting again that though these vehicles have subpar headlights and don't quite earn Top Safety Pick awards, that doesn't mean they're unsafe. They all score well enough in crash testing and forward collision prevention that they would get the coveted award if the lights were better.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.
