This truck is straight up work in the fact it does not have A/C, a radio, carpeted floors, or the proverbial bells and whistles. It's a 3/4 ton, 350 V8 with a TH350 transmission and a 14 bolt rear end, rubber floor mat, and a vinyl seat. It does have great heat, manual locks and windows, power steering, power brakes, and is pre-wired for a 4-prong, flat connector for trailer towing. If you're ok with all that, please continue to read on :)

I am the second owner of this solid C-20 and yes, the mileage IS ACTUAL, just about to flip 89K. I have known the original owner for nearly a decade and know the history of this truck. I can tell you that the original owner took very good care of it, never abusing it. It was serviced professionally and always done on time. It was repainted about 5 or so years ago after the original paint began to show signs of age & as you can see by the pictures it still looks pretty good. The body is straight and solid however this truck is not "rust free"  as there are a couple of areas that will need attention in the future. Don't panic...the floorboards, rocker panels, cab corners, rear wheel wells, and frame aren't the areas that need attention. Areas that have rust: inside the bed has surface rust on the bed floor, there is an area (lower, rear fender well) on the passenger front fender that is the worst area on the truck by far (see pics). There is the start of some paint bubbling on the drivers side front fender but it's very minor. The passenger cab corner is starting to rust on the bottom but it's certainly repairable at this point. There is a slight dent on the upper side of the hood, towards the front, on the drivers side but the center hood ridge is free of dents (If you are familiar with GM hoods of this era, you'll know that many of them have a crease on this ridge due to flexing of the hood during opening and closing). There is also a dented area on the front lower area of the passenger front fender. The right side of the cab, just in front of the bed, there is also a dented area. The interior is all there and in pretty good shape despite it's nearly 37 years old...the dash has a crack on the top, the door panels could use a refinish or replacement, the seat is in good shape and operates like it should, both sun visors are operational and in good shape, all the gauges work and read correctly, glove box, ashtray, door handles, door locks, interior and gauge lights all work correctly. The drivers side window crank works fine but the passenger side needs a new handle...the crank mechanism is fine but the plastic handle has stripped teeth (typical when plastic meets steel). I have a handle on it but it's not an OEM handle. All the lights work (headlights, side marker, brake, turn signal, etc.) Passed a Virginia State inspection last month. Truck starts right up when driven daily but if you leave it sit a week, you need to pump the accelerator once or twice to prime the carb and she'll fire right up. The trucks rides down the road straight and true. I would have no reservations about driving this truck coast to coast, as it sits today. This has been a very reliable truck for both my old friend and myself and I recently had some preventive maintenance done to it (as outlined below) to keep it that way. Nothing has failed yet but I like to get things replaced before they do...after all, that's what preventive maintenance means.

Additional things to know (Some are quite minor but I am not in the business of hiding anything)

  • "Star" crack in the windshield that has was filled with glass repair epoxy to stabilize it.
  • Windshield washer fluid reservoir lid broken. I haven't used it in years so may not work.
  • I only have one key for the spare tire lock. It's a full size spare with tread good enough for a spare.
  • Tailgate is non-OEM. It was changed out by the first owner after he backed into a pole with it down and creased the top.
  • Brakes stop on a dime. You tap the pedal and the brakes are right there! This might take you off guard if you're not used to it.
  • Tires are bias ply. The rear's are meaty and have deep lugs. The fronts are still deep on tread but if this truck is going to be your daily highway driver, you may want to invest in a nice set of radials...it would smooth out the ride a bit more and probably improve the gas mileage too. I am an old school guy and don't mind the bias ply as I only drive it on the weekends and a day or two during the week.
  • Wheels are 16.5" and that means limited choices on tires. I was going to purchase a set of 16" rims to open up more choices but I kept the truck stock.
  • When the fuel gauge hits empty, it is. If you think you have another 10 miles on "E", you'll be walking (personal experience).
  • The little ring on top of the transmission dip stick is missing. Dipstick still functions and can be pulled out & in with no issues; just doesn't have the ring on top.
  • Both the driver and passenger vent window seals need replacement. I have new seals for both of them and will include them with the truck.
  • Heater hoses could use replacement as they are getting old but are not leaking. I have the new hoses & will toss them in the cab.
  • In August, I changed the engine oil & filter; fuel filter, PCV valve; valve cover gaskets (old ones had a slight weep); transmission fluid, filter, and pan gasket; transmission mount (rubber was shot); all three drive shaft U-joints; center driveshaft support bearing; spark plugs & plug wires; and dropped in a new battery to replace a weak, aging one.
  • Shocks are recent (within the last few years).
  • Likes mid to premium grade fuel. Doesn't like the low grade.
  • Doesn't need new wheel bearings but I have new inner & outer wheel bearings for both axles & will toss them in the cab as well. I didn't get around to changing them out and since the current bearings are fine, it wasn't a priority.
  • I also have a new thermostat and Fel-Pro gasket I will toss in as I didn't change them yet for the same reason as the wheel bearings..
  • I have new motor mounts as well. Again, nothing wrong with the originals other than they are old. I will toss them in the cab too.

That's about all I can think of. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask & I'll answer honestly.

Transportation is the buyers responsibility to arrange. To the winning bidder: I will make myself available for the loading and the paperwork or if you live close enough and want to come pick it up, that can be arranged too.

Thanks for taking the time to look the truck and read the description.

2016 Chevy Malibu exhaustively tested with four decades of data

Fri, Mar 13 2015

Chevy is preparing to unveil its new Malibu sedan at the upcoming New York Auto Show next month. But when it does, it's not like it will have appeared overnight. The development of any new vehicle – especially one as widely produced by a major automaker as the Malibu – involves rigorous and relentlessly punishing tests. In the Malibu's case, that meant 1.5 million miles of driving from the scorching heat of Arizona in July to the frigid cold of northern Canada in January and everything in between. The Bowtie brand also says it incorporated four decades' worth of data taken from vehicles driving in locations around the world since 1972 in order to make the Malibu the best it could be. We'll have to wait to find out the results of all that exhaustive testing, but you can catch a sneak peek at the new sedan in the video above. Four Decades of Data Used to Test 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Recorded customer use drives durability testing for next-generation midsize sedan 2015-03-11 DETROIT – Data collected over decades from across the globe is helping ensure the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu can handle the world's worst roads even if the all-new midsize sedan never drives on them. Data collection boxes are placed in cars in real-world driving conditions around the world. Since 1972, these devices have accurately recorded the harshness and frequency of every jounce, bump and shudder inflicted on the car on roads in the U.S., Russia, Saudi Arabia and developing markets. "Although most Malibu owners will never put their car through similar abuse, we test all new vehicles in extreme climates, inclement weather and on punishing road surfaces," said Dan Devine, Malibu validation engineer. "The 2016 Malibu is definitely up to these challenges." Tests like these ensured the current generation Malibu was dependable and durable, two qualities that in turn helped Malibu stand out from its rivals in important quality surveys, such as J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study and Vehicle Dependability Study. General Motors engineers analyze the data to calculate the precise amount of damage potholes and other hazards create over 150,000 miles. Then the conditions are replicated at GM's Milford Proving Ground in Michigan on three unique road courses, each riddled with simulated potholes of increasing severity. Engineers run preproduction cars through the course up to hundreds of times.

GM delays truck plant shift so workers can watch Detroit Lions NFC Championship game

Thu, Jan 25 2024

It would be difficult to overstate just how big of a deal it is for the city of Detroit and its residents (and residents of southeast Michigan in general) that the Detroit Lions not only made it convincingly into the NFL playoffs but found significant success in defeating the Los Angeles Rams in the Wildcard round and then the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the following week. But if there's one thing we can point to as an automotive-minded group, it's this: General Motors has delayed the start of the third shift at its Flint Assembly plant so that workers won't have to miss any part of the game. To emphasize the magnitude of this decision, it's important to note that the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD are built at the plant, and the popularity and, perhaps more importantly, profitability of those heavy duty trucks is so high that it's the only GM plant in Michigan that runs a third shift, as pointed out by the Detroit Free Press. The delay is roughly an hour in total, and workers won't be paid for that missing time. We doubt there will be any complaints. Granted, this isn't the first time GM has delayed starting a late shift due to a big sporting event. In prior years, delays have been recorded for some Super Bowls and for the in-state Michigan vs. Michigan State rivalry game at GM facilities in Lansing, Michigan. Still, GM's statement on why it would hold off production of such a lucrative pair of vehicles explains it better than we can: "We recognize the Detroit Lions playing in the NFC Championship game as a rare, unique opportunity that warrants this temporary schedule adjustment to allow employees to enjoy the game and make it to work on time." It's not GM's only show of Lions pride. Take a close look at the General Motors logo currently being displayed at the Renaissance Center, GM's headquarters in Detroit. General Motors is displaying its Motor City pride with a subtle logo redesign to honor the Detroit Lions as they continues their Super Bowl hunt. Read more: https://t.co/Jmc6bmMK6n pic.twitter.com/9bJJqOmwxB — Ad Age (@adage) January 23, 2024 The Free Press reached out to Ford and Stellantis to see if either of GM's rivals would be making shift adjustments as well. Ford has yet to provide a comment, but Stellantis, makers of the Ram truck and Jeep SUVs, has confirmed it will be running normal schedules at all of its facilities. For now, there's only one more question that needs answering: What if the game goes to overtime?

Zombie cars: A dozen discontinued vehicles people still buy new

Thu, Jan 6 2022

Car models come and go, but as revealed by monthly sales data, once a car is discontinued, it doesn't just disappear instantly. And in the case of some models, vanishing into obscurity can be a slow, tedious process. That's the case with the 12 cars we have here. All of them have been discontinued, but car companies keep racking up "new" sales with them. There are actually more discontinued cars that are still registering new sales than what we decided to include here. We kept this list to the oldest or otherwise most interesting vehicles still being sold as new, including a supercar. We'll run the list in alphabetical order, starting with *drumroll* ... BMW 6 Series: 55 total sales BMW quietly removed the 6 Series from the U.S. market during the 2019 model year. It had been available in three configurations, a hardtop coupe, a convertible and a sleek four-door coupe-like shape.   BMW i8: 18 total sales We've always had a soft spot for the BMW i8, despite the fact that it never quite fit into a particular category. It was sporty, but nowhere near as fast as similarly-priced competitors. It looked very high-tech and boasted a unique carbon fiber chassis design and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but wasn't really designed for maximum efficiency or maximum performance. Still, the in-betweener was very cool to look at and drive, and 18 buyers took one home over the course of 2021.   Chevy Impala: 750 total sales The Impala represented classic American tastes at a time when American tastes were shifting away from soft-riding sedans with big interior room and trunk space and into higher-riding crossovers. A total of 750 sales were inked last year.   Chrysler 200: 15 total sales The Chrysler 200 was actually a pretty nice sedan, with good looks and decent driving dynamics let down by a lack of roominess, particularly in the back seat. Of course, as we said regarding the Chevy Impala, the number of Americans in the market for sedans is rapidly winding down, and other automakers are following Chrysler's footsteps in canceling their slow-selling four-doors. Even if Chrysler never really found its footing in the ultra-competitive midsize sedan segment, apparently dealerships have a few leftover 2017 200s floating around. And for some reason, 15 buyers decided to sign the dotted line to take one of these aging sedans home last year.
