YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 1955 CHEVROLET 1/2 TON PICKUP TRUCK. I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IN JUNE OF LAST YEAR IN PRETTY MUCH OFF THE FARM CONDITION. I PLANNED TO USE IT AROUND THE FARM AND MAKE A SUPPLY RUN NOW AND THEN. WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IT HAD A MISS ON NUMBER 5 CYLINDER, A LATE MODEL SEAT HAD BEEN INSTALLED AND A ROTTED OUT PIECE OF PLYWOOD WAS IN THE BED. I HAD A VALVE JOB PERFORMED AND REPLACED THE CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE TRUCK SINCE FALL LIKE THAT. I HAVE RECENTLY HAD THE LOWER END OF THE ENGINE OVERHAULED BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS JUST USING TO MUCH OIL. THE ENGINE HAS NOW BEEN COMPLETELY OVERHAULED AND RUNS GREAT. IT RUNS GREAT NOW AND HAS PLENTY OF POWER. I HAVE SPENT $4,300 JUST IN THE MOTOR. THE TRANSMISSION IS THE ORIGINAL 3 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITH THE SHIFT ON THE COLUMN. THE REAR END IS THE ORIGINAL GEARING AND HAS BEEN RESEALED. THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD GONE THROUGH THE BRAKES AND I HAVE REPLACED THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES FOR PROPER OPERATION. I HAVE PURCHASED THE CORRECT SEAT AND HAD THE FRAME PAINTED AND RECOVERED. IT ADJUST AND LEANS FORWARD AS DESIGNED. I REPAINTED THE CAB AND THE FLOOR DID HAVE SOME RUST AND WAS FILLED AND PAINTED. ALL THE SEALS FOR THE BRAKE PEDAL, CLUTCH, SHIFTER AND SUCH HAVE BEEN REPLACED AND NEW FIREWALL PAD AND FLOOR MAT INSTALLED. THIS IS NOT A FRAME OFF RESTORATION. I WAS ONLY INTERESTED IN A NICE SOLID TRUCK TO DRIVE. THE TAILGATE WAS MISSING, THE SIDE STEPS ON BED RUSTED OUT AND FRONT PANEL OF BED VERY BENT. I INSTALLED BOTH NEW SIDE STEPS, FRONT BED PANEL AND TAILGATE AND LIKED THE COLOR SO THE REST OF THE TRUCK WAS PAINTED A SATIN BLACK. THE TRUCK WAS ORIGINALLY DARK GREEN AND THE FIREWALL AND RIMS ARE PAINTED DARK GREEN. I USED SOME OLD RECYCLED FLOOR BOARDS FOR THE BED. IT IS TONGE AND GROOVE AND IS HELD DOWN WITH CARRIAGE BOLTS. THE REST OF THE BODY PANELS WERE FILLED AND THE WORST OF THE DENTS SMOOTHED OUT SOME. FOR A SHOW TRUCK YOU WILL WANT TO REPLACE THE FENDERS AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. DON'T BRING A MAGNET. I KNOW THERE IS PUTTY. THE WINDSHIELD HAS BEEN REPLACED BUT THE SIDE WINDOW AND REAR WINDOW MAY BE ORIGINAL. THE TRUCK HAS A STANDARD HEATER AND I HAVE REPLACED THE BLOWER MOTOR. THE DASH HAD BEEN CUT OUT FOR A MORE MODERN RADIO. A TRIM BEZEL HAS BEEN INSTALLED AND A STATE OF THE ART AM/FM RADIO. THE RADIO HAD A CD FEATURE BUT DOES NOT WORK. TWO SPEAKERS ARE MOUNTED UNDER THE DASH. I HAVE INSTALLED A TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ON THE COLUMN AND HAVE REPLACED THE TAIL LIGHTS AND FROM PARKING LIGHTS FOR SINGLE LIGHT TURN, PARKING AND BRAKE LIGHTS. ON THE OUTSIDE, THE LIGHTS APPEAR ORIGINAL. THE ODOMETER SHOWS 2,046 MILES BUT THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL ODOMETER. I PURCHASED THE SPEEDOMETER USED LAST YEAR. ALL THE GAUGES AND LIGHTS WORK INCLUDING THE DOME LIGHT. THE TWO FRONT TIRES ARE NEW BUT THE REAR TIRES ARE SOME OLDER SNOW TIRES THAT WERE ON THE TRUCK WHEN I GOT IT. THERE IS A JACK AND LUG WRENCH BEHIND THE SEAT BUT I DO NOT HAVE A SPARE TIRE. I HAVE A RIM THAT HAS A LARGE HOLE RUSTED IN IT THAT YOU ARE WELCOME TO HAVE. I DRIVE IT BACK AND FORTH TO WORK NOW AND THEN WHICH IS A 24 MILE ROUND TRIP AND IS A BALL TO DRIVE. I HAVE A BARN ON THE FARM THAT NEEDS MY IMMEDIATE ATTENTION AND FUNDS SO I RELUCTANTLY OFFER THE TRUCK FOR SALE. I CAN'T AFFORD TO GIVE THE TRUCK AWAY BUT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY. THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. PLEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. I WILL BE HAPPY TO DELIVER THE TRUCK FREE FOR A 200 MILE RADIUS FROM FREDERICK, MARYLAND.

Engine block heater issues force GM to recall 324,226 diesel heavy duty trucks
Tue, May 7 2019General Motors has issued a recall on 324,226 diesel heavy duty trucks that could be susceptible to short circuits, and consequently, potential fire. The recall affects several models of heavy duty Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras with optional engine block heaters. GM is recalling seven different truck models spread across three years. The recall affects the 2017-2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, 2017-2019 Silverado 3500HD, 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 2019 Silverado 5500HD, and 2019 Silverado 6500HD, plus the 2017-2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD and 2017-2019 Sierra 3500HD. Specifically, it includes these models with the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engines and the optional engine block heater. The recall technically deals not with the engine block heater itself, but the way it is connected. According to NHTSA campaign No. 19V328000, the engine block heater cord or the terminals that link the cord to the heater could short circuit. A short circuit could potentially damage engine components and result in a fire. According to The Detroit News, 19 fires have been reported but nobody has been injured. GM has yet to figure out a fix, and thus has not yet released a notification schedule for affected customers. If you believe your vehicle is part of the recall, contact GM customer service at 1-586-596-1733 and use reference number N182206310.
Chevy's latest Silverado videos assume we're idiots
Mon, Jul 6 2015UPDATE: This article has been revised to reflect that any mention of materials used in a future Chevrolet Silverado is speculation. Can we have a sound, rational debate about the merits of aluminum versus steel? According to Chevrolet's latest marketing videos pitting the Silverado against the Ford F-150, the answer is no. The tone of all three ads is almost Orwellian: steel good, aluminum bad. Of course, this will all be a hilarious joke when an aluminum-bodied Silverado comes in 2018. That's an if, as a member of the General Motor public relations team has reminded me that any articles regarding future product are pure speculation. Until then Chevy needs to sell the current Silverado, with its body comprised chiefly of steel, against the Ford F-150's lightweight aluminum panels. Instead of touting the merits of the "most-dependable, longest lasting pickup," the strategy seems to center around negative propaganda towards the 13th element. The tone of all three ads is almost Orwellian: steel good, aluminum bad. Of the three videos, the most fair is Silverado vs. F-150 Repair Costs and Time: Howie Long Head to Head. Basically: aluminum costs more than steel, it's more difficult to repair, and requires special equipment for body shops. In terms of Chevy versus Ford, the blue oval truck costs more and takes longer to repair - an average of $1,755 more and 34 more days in the shop, according to the ad. But why stop there when you can have pitchman Howie Long raising an eyebrow at random facts? When Silverado Chief Engineer Eric Stanczak says of the Ford, "It's manufactured in a way that combines aluminum, rivets, and adhesive in a process that's different than Silverado." Long responds, "Huh. Interesting." At the end of the video, Long says "I'd be interested to know what happens to insurance costs." Note he's not saying anything substantive. If Chevy's legal team could sign off on some facts about insurance rates, it would be in this ad. On our Autoblog Cost to Own calculator, there is no significant difference in projected insurance costs between the two trucks. But at least that ad has facts. The other two videos are pure hype. In Cages: High Stength Steel, real people are asked what they think of aluminum and steel in a room with two cages. Then a bear is released into the room, and the subjects scurry to the safety of the steel cage.
