If you're looking for a bad-to-the-bone pro-street Nova that gets attention wherever it goes, then this is it.  Every square inch on this car is done and done right.  Show quality, top to bottom.  Over $60k invested, this car is magazine material.  Only 600 street driven miles since completion.  It has NEVER been raced down a drag strip.

I'll let the pictures do most of the talking, but here are some technical details:

Engine:
Steve Schmidt Racing 523 cubic inch big block.  10.5/1 compression runs on 91 octane or better.  All cylinders compression-checked at 190 psi.
Dynoed at 743HP and 630 torque.
Dart big M block, 4 bolt mains.  All forged internals with upgraded rings and wrist pins suitable for up to 300 HP nitrous.   Note that the car is equipped with a NOS fogger system, currently calibrated for 250 HP.  It has NEVER been activated.
Dart Pro-Filer 24 degree aluminum cylinder heads.  Special porting by Steve Schmidt Racing. Intake port flows 415cfm, exhaust port flows 303cfm.  2.30/1.88 valves.
Proprietary billet roller camshaft.  .748 intake lift / .723 exhaust lift
Dart Pro-1 intake manifold
Comp cams stainless 1.7 rocker arms with stud girdles.
Holley 1050 carb, modded for perfect air/fuel ratios for peak HP and improved drive-ability.
MSD pro-billet distributor with composite gear.
Hidden MSD 6AL ignition system under the dash.
Serpentine belt system with low-mounted alternator for a clean look.

Transmission:
Competition TH400 with tranz-brake, full manual valve body, no engine braking.
Deep aluminum pan.
Transmission Specialities torque converter.  5000 stall.
Huge trans cooler for low temps.

Rear end:
Dana 60 with 4.56 gears, Trac-Lok differential and 35 spline axles

Interior:
Custom carbon fiber dash with autometer gauges.
Sony sound system with CD player (it sounds incredible!)
Early 90's camaro bucket seats, modded for the racing harnesses.
Turbo-Action shifter, with line-loc and tranz-brake buttons.
AEM wide-band gauge, makes tuning a breeze.
Twin polished nitrous bottles in billet bracket.

Wheels:
Billet Specialities 15x6 (front) and 15x12 (rear)
Hoosier front tires and Phoenix PH55R slicks on the back (32 tall and 15 1/2 wide, these babies hook!)

Misc:
Custom 3 1/2 inch exhaust (cost $1500)
Hooker super-comp headers
10 point cage
Polished 15 gallon fuel cell
Polished battery box with master safety switch
Deist parachute, easily removable.
Twin fuel pumps, lines and regulators.  Each on own circuit.
Huge Fluidyne aluminum radiator.  Even in sweltering Florida heat, engine runs 200 degrees or less.
MSD 6AL, 2-step and MSD starter saver all hidden under the dash for a very clean look.
ARC roll-bar mounted switch panel.

This car is very streetable, reliable and never runs hot.  The tires are 32 inches in diameter, so the 4.56 rear gear is effectively only about a 3.90 ratio, which means you can cruise at 60 MPH all day long.
The stereo sounds amazing.  It has 50 watts per channel so you can cruise while jamming your favorite tunes.

I have a reserve that is VERY fair.  It took over $60k to build this awesome machine and it can be yours for a fraction of the cost.  Everything is new, every single wire and bolt has been restored or replaced.  Go anywhere and win a trophy!  This car is mid 10 second capable (on engine only) and mid 9 second (on spray), so I reserve the right to refuse the sale if I feel that the buyer can't handle the power that this thing delivers.

This car is perfect and needs nothing.  It does not drip any fluids nor puff any smoke.  Everything works.
No trades.  Don't ask to end the auction early.  Don't ask me for the reserve.  Good luck bidding!

Nissan Leaf has 2nd-best sales month ever, Chevy Volt does a 2013 repeat [UPDATE]

Tue, Apr 1 2014

UPDATE: The official press release says that "Volt [sales were] up 7 percent," but Randy Fox let AutoblogGreen know that this is simply due to a change in the fleet/retail mix between March 2013 and 2014. The actual number sold was exactly the same in the two months. A month ago, Nissan's director of EV sales and marketing, Toby Perry, said he expected to see the Leaf's sales momentum continue into March. It wasn't a big leap, since January and February were slow sales months in 2013 (around 640 each) before a big climb to 2,200 in March. In 2014, the first two months of the year were better (around 1,300 each) but Nissan can still be happy that the Leaf just had the best March ever and its second-highest sales month ever, with 2,507 sold. That's a 12.1 percent increase from 2013 and Perry said in a statement to AutoblogGreen that one reason is all of the buyers who are becoming evangelists for the vehicle. "We've also seen an increase in showroom traffic as we enhanced our marketing presence in March," he said. Nissan pointed to cities like Washington, DC, Raleigh-Durham, NC and urban areas in Texas as strong Leaf markets last month. On the Chevy Volt front, January and February were also slow months in 2014, down roughly half from the 2,000-ish the plug-in hybrid was selling at the end of 2013. For 2014, sales were up slightly from the first two months of the year and Chevy spokesman Randy Fox told AutoblogGreen that the March number was "pretty flat, year-over-year." Even with that warning, we were surprised to see the total come in at 1,478. Why's that? Because the total for March 2013 was ... 1,478. So, yeah, that's pretty steady even if there were 26 selling days in March period this year compared to 27 last year. As always, our more complete report of last month's green car sales will be coming soon. News Source: General Motors, Nissan Green Chevrolet GM Nissan Electric Hybrid PHEV ev sales

Jaguar I-Pace vs. Tesla Model 3 and other EVs: How they compare on paper

Thu, Mar 1 2018

The 200-mile club of electric vehicles is really growing. The most recent member is the Jaguar I-Pace, the company's first pure EV. It promises luxury, performance, style, and most important, good range. Nearly as recent is the Hyundai Kona EV, and while it doesn't promise luxury or performance like the Jaguar (it's also smaller), it does pack impressive range. With the introduction of both of these electric cars, we thought we would see how they compare against each other, and the other two big names in high-capacity electric cars: the Chevy Bolt EV and the Tesla Model 3. This isn't intended to be a direct, apples-to-apples comparison, as the four are quite different. If anything, they break into two groups: bigger and more luxurious, and smaller and less expensive. Then again, the number of vehicles with this electric range is small and comparisons to EV's with less range wouldn't be too kind to the other guys. If you want to learn more about these EVs, and compare them with other cars, be sure to check out our Car Finder and comparison tools. Horsepower and torque There is one clear winner here, and that's the Jaguar I-Pace. It packs a whopping 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque. That comes through a pair of electric motors (one at the front, another at the rear) that provide the Jag with all-wheel drive, the only one of these vehicles to offer it (at the moment). Altogether, it allows the I-Pace to have the best 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds. At the other end of the spectrum is the Hyundai Kona EV. It's front-drive, like the Bolt EV, and has effectively the same amount of horsepower as the Chevy at 201 horsepower, but its 0-60-mph time is almost a second slower. And the low-range version of the Kona, excluded because it doesn't go more than 200 miles between charges, is slower still. The Tesla Model 3 is the only vehicle with rear-wheel drive, and with a 0-60 mph of 5.1 seconds for the Long Range model, it is still very quick. Range and energy use Frequently, the all-consuming question with electric cars is, "How far can I go on a charge?" And to go the farthest, you need the long-range Tesla Model 3. It can go 310 miles. It has the added advantage of being able to use the network of Tesla Supercharger stations, though they are pay-per-use with the Model 3. Even the lower capacity Model 3, with just 220 miles of range, can use these stations.

GM drops diesel engines for 2020 Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain crossovers

Fri, Jul 12 2019

GM is officially discontinuing the diesel engine in the Chevy Equinox and GMC Terrain for the 2020 model year. The 1.6-liter turbodiesel was always an oddball of an engine in the compact crossover segment, and now the experiment has come to an end. The Car Connection initially reported the news, and a GMC spokesperson, Stuart Fowle, confirmed it to us this morning.  “A huge majority of our Terrain customers have opted for one of our two gas engines," says Fowle. We canÂ’t say this eventuality comes as a massive surprise, as we saw news from couple of months ago that GM was dropping all-wheel drive from the diesel-powered cars for 2020. Low demand was cited as the reason for that cull, and itÂ’s the same for the little GM crossovers this time around, too. These vehicles were the only ones powered with a diesel engine in their class, but thatÂ’s going to be changing. Just as GM is going away from the diesel, Mazda is finally bringing its diesel to market in the CX-5. YouÂ’ll only be able to get that engine in the most expensive ($42,045) trim level, combined with all-wheel drive, though. The cheapest Equinox diesel starts at a comparably low $30,795. ThatÂ’s a $2,400 upcharge over the base 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder, and the value is questionable. Mileage is better, but diesel fuel is more expensive. Towing capability didnÂ’t increase over the base engineÂ’s 1,500-pound capacity, but the extra torque around town was nice. As diesels go in the U.S., this one was rather rough and noisy, possibly contributing to some turning their noses up after a test drive. Perhaps another reason for its demise was that the much quicker 2.0-liter turbo Equinox was only $100 more than the diesel. This engine offered significantly better towing at 3,500 pounds, too. You can read all about what we thought of the diesel in our first drive review here, but the 2019 model year is the last one if you had it on your shortlist.
