Fernando Alonso fails to qualify as Pagenaud takes Indy pole

Mon, May 20 2019

Former Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso narrowly failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday as France's Simon Pagenaud took pole position for the May 26 race. Kyle Kaiser beat out Alonso for the final spot in the 33-car field when he finished third, one spot ahead of the Spaniard, in a six-car shootout that determined the Indy 500's last row. The 23-year-old Kaiser, the last driver to take the track, averaged 227.372 mph for his four laps, a mere 0.019 mph ahead of Alonso's 227.353 mph average in the McLaren-prepared Chevrolet. "We never surrendered. We kept trying," Alonso, 37, told reporters after a tough week at the famed speedway. The Spaniard crashed his Chevrolet in practice on Wednesday and missed nearly two full days of practice while a back-up car was prepared. Then he tried five times on Saturday to qualify, puncturing a tire on the first attempt. Alonso had a completely new set up for Sunday's shootout but could not get the speed he needed to qualify. "I think the car felt better today than what we had yesterday. (So I am) happy with things we tried," he told reporters before learning he had not qualified. Pagenaud had a four-lap average speed of 229.992 mph to become the first Frenchman to take the pole since Rene Thomas in 1919. "It's just amazing," Pagenaud, who last week won the IndyCar Grand Prix on the track's road course, told NBC Sports. "Obviously last week was amazing, but this is even more special." He will be joined by Ed Carpenter (229.889) and Spencer Pigot (229.826) on the front row. But the Cinderella story belonged to Kaiser, the 33rd qualifier. "I don't think I can wrap my mind around what we just did," he said after bumping Alonso from the field. "This is all the credit to the team. They've been working non-stop trying to get this car ready for us and they did everything that we needed to get into this field." 2016 Chevrolet Spark lights up New York

Thu, Apr 2 2015

The little Spark has been somewhat of a surprising entry in the modern Chevy lineup in the US. Given its diminutive stature, you might have expected the slightly larger Sonic to cannibalize the tiny sibling's sales, but that hasn't happened. The Bowtie moved 39,159 Sparks in the US in 2014, a 14.7 percent boost from the previous year. Now at the 2015 New York Auto Show, the latest generation is being unveiled with a new engine and much improved styling. Replacing the current 1.2-liter four-cylinder is an all-aluminum 1.4-liter unit making 98 horsepower. That still doesn't sound like much, but it's 16 percent more than the 2015 Spark. The new mill can be connected to either a five-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission with which Chevy estimates 40 miles per gallon highway fuel economy. The 2016 Spark also gets a longer wheelbase and 1.6-inch lower overall height. Combined with more elliptical headlights at the front, the changes make for a somewhat more sleek appearance than the current, boxy model. The platform underneath is more rigid as well, and Chevy claims the latest underpinnings mean better handling and lower NHV levels inside. The little hatch isn't growing up too much, though, and gets a trio of new colors that sound like jellybean flavors: Toasted Marshmallow, Kalamata and Splash. Chevy is packing the interior with better quality materials and improved tech. Chevy's latest seven-inch MyLink system sits in the center stack with a capacitive touchscreen, and it now comes with a physical volume control and other buttons for easier use. All models also get a rearview camera, and a LCD instrument cluster remains in front of the driver. The available suite of safety systems includes Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Spot Alert. The 2016 Spark goes on sale in the US in the fourth quarter of 2015 and is produced in South Korea. Expect a gallery showing off all its new styling from the New York show floor soon.

Final C6 Corvette built in Bowling Green

Fri, 01 Mar 2013

With all of the attention given to the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray lately, you could be forgiven for thinking that it's already well along in production, yet tooling up for the new C7 has only just begun. In fact, production of the outgoing C6 generation in Bowling Green, Kentucky just halted on Thursday.
As the C6 has aged, production numbers have predictably ebbed along with demand, but this year, the addition of the 427 and 60th anniversary models resulted in an uptick in vehicles built - this, despite a model year shortened by around 25 percent to accomodate the new model changeover. The final C6 Corvette ever, No. 13,466 built this year, was a white 427 Convertible destined for the General Motors Heritage Center museum. The car's 7.0-liter V8 heart was assembled by Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter himself.
In total, Bowling Green pushed out 215,100 C6 Corvettes over nine years. If you're still a C6 fan at heart and are hoping to get a good deal on a phase-out model, step lively - Chevrolet reportedly had about 6,100 unsold units, which Autoweek suggests is good for around five and a half months of supply at the model's current sales rates. Given that demand will likely slacken even further as the C7 draws closer, that should be a big enough stockpile to keep dealers satisfied until 2014 Stingrays begin showing up on their forecourts in December.

DESCRIPTION
Introduced in 1962, the Chevrolet Chevy II hit the market as a compact vehicle option for buyers. It could be purchased with everything from the entry level four cylinder all the way up to the V8, as a dealer installed option. By 1963, the Nova Super Sport option was introduced for the hardtop model with special sport options and features, but it wasn’t until 1964 when the 283ci V8 finally became a factory-installed available option, and quickly put the larger Malibu on notice! The 327 V8 was added to the engine availability list in 1965 and the Nova SS was suddenly a force to be reckoned with! Larger muscle cars like the Olds 442, Pontiac GTO, and Ford Mustang K-code found the little Chevy II Nova SS a strong contender at stop lights! A sharp, newly redesigned generation II model series for 1966 and 1967 make them the most desired among collectors today!

We are very excited to offer this 1967 Chevrolet Nova Super Sport Hardtop finished in extremely sharp Nantucket Blue Metallic (originally R-R code Bolero Red) over factory appointed Black bucket seat vinyl interior (780) with matching Black vinyl top! Fitted with a 1967 date-code correct L30 RPO 327ci V8 offering 275 horsepower & 355 lb. ft. of torque, 4-speed Muncie manual transmission, and 10-bolt Posi-traction rear end! Options include center console, AM pushbutton radio, door edge guards, front & rear bumper guards, correct SS wheel covers, Firestone Wide Oval Super Sports redline tires measuring D70-14, optional passenger side rearview mirror, Chevy rubber floor mats, windshield washer system, and all tinted window glass!

The overall body & chassis are of the most impressive, absolutely rust-free, solid examples we have had the chance to review ever! The sheet metal, floor pans, factory body seams & spot welds, panel-to-panel gaps, etc. are true to factory exact specs! Just awesome! The restoration was largely completed in rotisserie fashion with strong attention to detail. You will find correct double hump heads, GM radiator hoses, T3 headlamps, Rochester Quadrajet carburetion, AC crankcase breather, faux Delco tar top battery cover, single leaf rear axle spring with spiral shocks, under hood insulation, firewall grease markings, and more! With exception to the rear window, all the tinted window glass is new. It also has all new true, dual exhaust, all new suspension components, rebuilt front end, beautiful chrome and bright work, and added front sway bar with polyurethane bushings.
