THE 70 MONTE CARLO  IS THE PINNACLE BUSINESS MANS MUSCLE CAR  OF ALL TIME , THIS RARE NOT TOO OFTEN SEEN VEHICLE IS GETTING HARDER TO FIND. UNLIKE THE CHEVELLE THAT EVERYONE HAS.  this is a PROJECT CAR WITH TONS OF POTENTIAL, ITS TRIPLE BLACK MAKES IT SLEEK FOR A NIGHT OUT ON THE PROWL. WILL GET NOTICED ANYWHERE WHERE PEOPLE  HEAR THE PIPES RUMBLING AND SAY THATS A CHEVELLE, , NO WAIT IT S A........????? MONTE CARLO, also known as the THE CHEVELLES BIG BROTHER WHICH ALSO CAME EQUIPPED WITH A 454 ON THE SS TRIM LEVEL. SOME CALL IT A parts car, or race car, DUE TO**** NO TITLE,**** THATS RIGHT, I LOST IT BEFORE I COULD TRANSFER  IT INTO MY NAME. I COULD JUST KICK MYSELF FOR THAT SILLY MOVE, BUT ANYWAY, IVE TRIED TIRELESSLY TO CONTACT THE PREVIOUS OWNER TO NO AVAIL, FOR THE LAST 6 MONTHS, AND DECIDED TO CUT MY LOSES AND SET IT FREE TO SOMEONE WHO WILL FINISH IN THE MANNER IT DESERVES. Yes, you can obtain a title through the many online companies, just do a google search for lost titles. etc...ive heard it costs around 450.00 but do your homework. there were comanies doing them for 300.00 also.  1970 is the most desirable year for the monte as it was the 1st year for the monte carlo. , THIS  vehicle has the vin  tags on it, has the round gauges and same dash as the chevelle ss.. many chevelle/malibu owners have whats called the long rectangular  sweep dash, and envy the monte carlo dash which came standard. this has a nice black  nice dash pad on it.also has the very desirable bucket seats, floor console and famous horseshoe shifter to guide you through gear selection.  the seats are black cloth, need to be recovered, door panels are driver quality, but need cleaning, the carpet is there, its also dirty, the headliner has some tears in it but its complete.. the factory radio is missing but dash has not been cut. floors are solid, rockers are solid, doors and door jams are solid, but have surface rust. body was originally silver then repainted black at some point. it looks like a cheap repaint, and is peeing and cracking in many areas.  trunk floor has surface rust but no holes in it,   will come with bill of sale only all glass is intact and not broken. engine is the 350v8  which appears to be original, with a 2bbl carb, but i did not run the # to check. i did verify that it is a 350 however. it is equippped with factory a/c . it.has the very desirable front disc brakes with a brand new master cylinder installed, needs left front brake hose replaced and brakes to be bled. engine starts and runs off a can of gas attached to the fuel pump feed line. , but i have not tried to run it off the gas tank cause its been sitting for 3 years and was afraid it had stale gas in it.  has 10 bolt non posi rear end. the wires to the starter have to be hooked up to the steering column harness, the fan shorud is in the trunk, needs to be installed. the front fenders were swapped out with original fenders from a donor car and needs some light repair at the bottoms, but patch panels are readily available. the front bumper and grill and headlight buckets were swapped over to the 1971 style due to previous owners preference, there are subtle differences in the two.,.it has the 350 trans which was working when vehicle was parked, it has no exhaust after the manifolds but i can throw in some midpips from a chevelle for an extra 70.00. I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END AUCTION EARLY AS ITS ADVERTISED LOCAL AS WELL.  call OR TEXT ME  for details.................................. 708 514 4832 ...................AND MORE PICS.ive tried to explain everything to the best of my ability, GOOD LUCK, AND HAPPY BIDDING!!!!!!

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Chevrolet Turbo Sprint

Sun, Feb 6 2022

Fifteen years ago, I wrote my first-ever automotive article under the name Murilee Martin, and it didn't take me long to start writing about one of my favorite automotive subjects: the junkyard. Before I'd refined my system for documenting discarded vehicles, however, I shot a lot of boneyard photos that never got used. For today's Junkyard Gem, I have four shots from early 2007 of one of the rarest turbocharged machines of the 1980s: the Chevrolet Turbo Sprint. The Chevrolet Sprint was really a rebadged Suzuki Cultus, from the pre-Geo era when General Motors sold the Isuzu Gemini as the Chevrolet Spectrum, the Daewoo LeMans as the Pontiac LeMans and the Toyota Corolla as the Chevrolet Nova (soon enough, the Spectrum became a Geo, and the Nova became the Prizm). The second-generation Cultus appeared in 1988, becoming the Geo Metro on our shores the following year. The Turbo Sprint was available for just the last two years of the Sprint's 1985-1988 American sales run, and it appears that just a couple of thousand were sold; if I'd known at the time just how rare they were, I'd have shot more photos of this one at the now-defunct Hayward Pick Your Part. The turbocharged 993cc three-cylinder produced 70 horsepower, 22 better than the naturally-aspirated version. Since the Turbo Sprint weighed just 1,620 pounds (that's about 500 pounds lighter than a barely more powerful '22 Mitsusbishi Mirage), it was plenty of fun to drive. For 1988, the regular Sprint hatchback cost $6,380 while the Turbo Sprint listed at $8,240 (that's about $15,375 and $19,855 today, respectively). Believe it or not, a Turbo Sprint actually raced in the 24 Hours of Lemons 10 years ago, though it didn't end well. This ad is for the regular Cultus, not the Cultus Turbo, but the screaming guitars sound reasonably turbocharged. For the most part, Chevy Sprint marketing was all about cheap purchase price and stingy fuel economy… at a time when gasoline prices were cratering. Related Video:

2016 Chevy Volt arrives with 50-mile EV range, 41 mpg [w/ video]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

Let's start with the numbers. The 2016 Chevy Volt will have an all-electric range of 50 miles from a new, 18.4-kWh lithium battery. It will get 41 miles per gallon (combined) once the battery runs dry and have 102 MPGe. Oh, and it has five seats, sort of. To compare, today's four-seat 2015 Volt has a 38-mile range from a 17.1-kWh battery in a powertrain that offers 37 mpg and 98 MPGe. So, across the board, there are notable improvements. Now that that's out of the way, let's talk story. General Motors will unveil the new Volt at the Detroit Auto Show later today, but it's been talking about how this new version – the first major plug-in hybrid vehicle to get a serious redo in the modern era – was crafted with reams and reams of data from first-gen Volt customers. At a preview event for journalists last week, GM executive chief engineer Pam Fletcher told Autoblog that these owners "gave us the recipe" to make the second-gen model. At the top of the request list was more range (check), more "fun-to-drive" behavior (check?) and a smoother and quieter experience (we'll assume a check here, given that the new 1.5-liter four-cylinder – the first North American application of this new engine family – should offer more power with less noise than the previous 1.4-liter, four-cylinder powerplant). Other customer-driven changes in the new Volt include a different place to store the charging cable (in the side of the trunk instead of under the load floor) and a new brake system with improved blended regenerative braking feel as well as driver-selectable regen levels. The requested 50-mile range comes from a new, lighter battery that has increased capacity from fewer cells (192 vs. 288) and a simplified control architecture. Along with the new battery, the electric drive unit is a two-motor deal that is up to 12 percent more efficient and 100 pounds lighter, while also being "tremendously smaller," notes Fletcher. It offers 294 pound-feet of torque and a maximum 149 horsepower of "motoring power" delivered to the wheels. GM says it has worked hard to reduced the amount of rare earth materials in these motors, and one of them doesn't use any at all. The new powertrain offers improved acceleration times, as well. The 2016 Volt can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.4 seconds, a seven-percent improvement, while the 0-30 mph time has been improved by 19 percent, down to 2.6 seconds. The new Volt is more conventional looking, but certainly not completely ordinary.

The USPS needs 180,000 new delivery vehicles, automakers gearing up to bid

Wed, Feb 18 2015

Winning the New York City Taxi of Tomorrow tender was a huge prize for Nissan, even though the company is still working through the process of claiming its prize. The United States Postal Service has begun the process to take bids for a new delivery vehicle to replace the all-too-familiar Grumman Long Life Vehicle, and that will be a much larger plum for the automaker who wins it, perhaps worth more than six billion dollars. The Grumman LLV is an aluminum body covering a Chevrolet S-10 pickup chassis and General Motors' Iron Duke four-cylinder engine. The USPS bought them from 1987 to 1994, and the 163,000 of them still in service are a monumental drain on postal resources: they get roughly ten miles to the gallon instead of the quoted 16 mpg, drink up more than $530 million in fuel each year, and their constant repair needs like the balky sliding door and leaky windshields have led the service to increase the annual maintenance budget from $100 million to $500 million. A seat belt is about as modern as it gets for safety technology, and the USPS says that assuming things stay the same, it can't afford to run them beyond 2017. Last year it put out two triage requests for proposals seeking 10,000 new chassis and drivetrains for the Grumman and 10,000 new vehicles. The LLV is also too small for the modern mail system in which package delivery is growing and letter delivery is declining. The service says it doesn't have a fixed idea of the ideal "next-generation delivery vehicles," but it listed a number of requirements in its initial request and is open to any proposal. Carriers have some suggestions, though, saying they want better cupholders, sun visors that they can stuff letters behind, a driver's compartment free of slits that can swallow mail, and a backup camera. The request for information sent to automakers pegs the tender at 180,000 vehicles that would cost between $25,000 and $35,000 apiece, and it will hold a conference on February 18 to answer questions about the contract. GM is the only domestic maker to avow an interest, while Ford and Fiat-Chrysler have remained cagey. Yet with a possible $6.3 billion up for grabs and some new vans for sale that would be advertised on every block in the country, we have a feeling everyone will be listening closely come February 18. We also have a feeling the LeMons series is going to be flooded with Grummans come 2017. News Source: Wall Street Journal, Automotive News - sub.
