For your consideration is a 1961 Chevrolet Impala 2 door Sport Coupe Bubble
Top. This isn’t your typical project car by any means!! This car is almost
done! Just put in an engine, and some nice American Racing wheels, and you have
a $20,000+ driver! Backstory: I purchased this car about a year ago with plans of building an over top Resto Mod with an LS1 engine, Disc Brakes, Air, etc. My plans have changed, and I have decided to sell the “roller” to someone else who can make their dream a reality. I originally purchased this car because everything is mostly here! And it’s extremely hard to find a Bubble Top Chevy, and one that has integrity such as a solid undercarriage, floors, trunk, etc. I purchased the car from a retired gentleman in Florida. He purchased it a few years back from an estate sale. The family did not know any history about it, other than it was in the garage for years. Though the title shows exempt mileage (which is common for antique vehicles) the odometer shows 13,289 miles. The car and story intrigued me from the start, so I had to buy it! Was it an old drag car that got tucked away? Was it a car just built to look like a vintage racer, and then forgotten about in a garage for years? I have never taken the time to research the VIN or to peruse any history. So the mystery continues…. This car is complete except for an engine. It will come with everything pictured. With installing an engine, THIS CAR IS VIRTUALLY TURN KEY!! Very street-able in its current condition. There aren’t boxes of parts that you have to put together! It’s all assembled and ready for your finishing touch! 400 Turbo Automatic Transmission,GM Posi Rear with 3.73 gears, Aluminum Radiator, Manual Drum Brakes, factory manual steering box, new shocks and springs, factory gauges, Auto Gauge Tach, wiper motor is present. There is a 12 gallon fuel cell in the trunk that is currently functional. Included is a factory tank. Headlights, tail lights all function properly. The side glass is Lexan, not the factory glass. There are no window regulators. The front fenders and the hood are fiberglass. They fit fairly well for being glass. The inner fenders (inside engine bay) are steel. As you can see in the photos, the hood lifts off, as well as the trunk. Trunk lid is steel (Bel Air Trunk). There is a roll bar, but it can be removed fairly easily. The front and rear seats are in very good condition, and mounted in the factory position. Headliner and carpet are also in good condition. Interior door panels are not the factory type, just painted steel that is finished off nicely, but not factory. The exhaust is straight pipes without mufflers. The entire car is in solid driver+ quality condition. The chrome, stainless trim, grill, & bumpers show very well. Has a very clean look. The paint is smooth with much depth and shine, unsure to age. The engine bay shows great. The undercarriage and frame is extremely clean, with no visible rust, rot, holes, bubbles, or issues that need addressing. Frame is very straight and true, not twisted or damaged in any way. The floors and trunk pan are solid and appear to be original. rear quarters also appear to be original. Trim Tag shows Interior Trim code 873- Red/Ivory, Paint code 973- White/Red. The VIN begins with 11837A- 1961 Impala 2 Dr. 8cyl Sport Coupe, Atlanta Built. In summary, this car has great bones to turn it into the machine YOU want! I can’t emphasize enough how close this car is to cruising a local car show by the weekend. Literally a couple days work to this classic, and you have a 61 Chevy Bubble top for a fraction of what other cars are bringing in this appreciating market. A great opportunity for the right person to turn this Impala into something special. I encourage & welcome pre purchase inspections. I will work with your inspector, appraiser, mechanic, etc to make you feel comfortable with your purchase. Vehicle is sold AS-IS, NO Warranties Expressed or Implied. I have clean clear Florida title in hand. If you have less than 5 feedback, please email prior to bidding. Please ask any questions prior to bidding. Don't assume anything. This is a legal binding contract. If you are the winning bidder, you are obligated to complete the purchase. You are not bidding on the opportunity to come and look at the vehicle and decide if you want to purchase the item! Also, please have all financing or funds in place prior to bidding. In other words, ask your wife first!! $1,000.00 Deposit due within 24 hours of auction close. Balance due within 7 days of auction close. PLEASE NOTE: If you pay by a certified check, vehicle WILL NOT be released until funds have cleared my banking institution!! Which typically takes 7 days. I urge everyone to take a look at my feedback. Bid with confidence! It was 100% until a few weeks ago, when a malicious ebayer left me negative feedback over a $45.00 die cast model car! Apparently, a windshield wiper was damaged in shipping overseas. I attempted to rectify the situation, but the buyer would not respond or contact me at all, and left me negative feedback! Located in Daytona Beach, Florida, 32118. Minutes from major route 95 on the northeast coast of Florida. 10 minutes from (DAB)-Daytona Beach International Airport. 70 miles to (MCO)-Orlando or (SFB)-Sanford International Airports. Fly in and check it out, and have it shipped home! I will assist with selling worldwide, but payment and arrangements are buyer’s responsibility. I have used several shipping companies in the past, and can recommend shippers to contact, or can be arranged right through ebay and their recommended carriers. Contact Clint at 610-763-8277 for more info. I do not send second chance offers! |

Fingers point to dragged-out NHTSA investigation after second death by ARC airbag inflator
Thu, Oct 14 2021Safety advocates have increased criticism of the federal government's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after an exploding airbag inflator that's been under investigation for more than six years killed a second person. On Wednesday, NHTSA posted recall documents filed by General Motors that revealed the second death, the driver of a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse SUV with an inflator made by Tennessee company ARC blew apart, spewing shrapnel. No details were given about where and when the death occurred. NHTSA has said that ARC Automotive of Knoxville has manufactured about 8 million inflators used nationwide in vehicles made by General Motors, Fiat Chrysler (now Stellantis), Kia and Hyundai. “NHTSA should have been all over this along time ago,” said Rosemary Shahan, president of California-based Consumers for Auto Reliability and Safety. “There's just no denying that itÂ’s a (safety) defect.” NHTSA, the agency charged with with keeping America's automobiles and roads safe, began investigating ARC inflators in July of 2015 after two people were injured by flying shrapnel. The investigation became more urgent in 2016, when a Canadian woman driving an older Hyundai Elantra was killed by metal airbag fragments. Public records show only a little progress on the probe. In April, the agency posted a memo in saying it was reviewing volumes of information it received from ARC. Safety advocates such as Shahan say that the dragged-out investigation is an example of the deadly consequences that can result from an understaffed and underfunded agency. The second death should not have happened, Shahan said, and vehicles with faulty ARC inflators should have been recalled faster. The agency, Shahan said, is “grossly underfunded," but it still should have sought recalls of the ARC inflators. She said historically NHTSA has taken little action during Republican administrations but has ramped up safety efforts when Democrats control the White House. Messages were left Wednesday by the Associated Press seeking comment from NHTSA and ARC. At this time, relatively few vehicles are effected. The GM recall covers only 550 Chevy Traverse SUVs from the 2013 through 2017 model years, as well as Buick Enclave SUVs from 2008 through 2017. The automaker said in a statement that the faulty front driver's airbag inflators were either installed at the factory or in replacement airbag modules.
Autoblog In Cuba: 1957 Chevy Bel Air Review
Mon, Oct 5 2015If you've been following the Autoblog In Cuba series, you may remember that my efforts to rent a car in the country were ultimately unsuccessful. Misinformation, bad planning, and a lack of rental car inventory conspired to disrupt my hoped-for driving adventure. I discovered in my week of exploration, however, that the terrific thing about Havana is that there's always another adventure to be found – if you're willing to look. A car I could drive myself might have been impossible to come by, but a ride to remember was not. After all, even when reviewing a new car, I've found that impressions about the car and the route can be credibly formed from the right seat. Starting from the parking lot of the grand Hotel Nacional, finding an interesting car for hire is as simple as walking up and down the block. Scads of classic American iron wait just outside the hotel gates, in a riot of colors and conditions befitting the tropical climate. Fords from the 1940s are plentiful – more sedans than coupes – and the glory days of General Motors are represented by enough Pontiacs and Cadillacs to fill a Bruce Springsteen B-sides album. But the Chevy Bel Air is the king of the road here, by some margin. View 30 Photos I settled on a burnt orange 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible, in tourist-appropriate condition. I was looking for a hardtop at the request of my crew's audio/video needs, but settled on a burnt orange 1957 Chevy Bel Air convertible, in tourist-appropriate condition. This car might look good as a prop in the background on your vacation photos – hair blowing in the breeze with the ocean at your back, parked in front of Che's face in Revolution Square, etc. – but was far from pristine on a closer inspection. A perfect representative of the Cuban average. At least the price was right: $50 for two hours to make it 12 miles to Hemingway's house, and back. My driver was a kid named Daniel who looked to be about 20 years old. The Chevy doesn't belong to him, he co-drives it with the owner, but he was able to give me the basic mechanical rundown. The eight- or six-cylinder engine that Chevy shipped this convertible with was long gone. No surprise there, as nearly every American-made car I'd ridden in so far was powered by some belching Mercedes diesel. Despite it's clattering note, Daniel said the lump under the hood of the '57 drinks gas: a four-cylinder of Russian origins, pulled out of a GAZ Volga as best I can understand.
GM marks 500 million vehicles
Tue, May 5 2015General Motors is marking a major global milestone, as 500 million vehicles have rolled off its assembly lines since the company's founding in 1908. To mark the occasion, the automaker is continuing to invest in production and offering a one-time discount to some customers. GM North America boss Alan Batey used the festivities to announce the Fairfax Assembly factory in Kansas as one of the sites earmarked for the company's $5.4 billion in upcoming investments. The plant will get $174 million of that money for new equipment and technology to build the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu. Among the upgrades will be a shake-and-rattle booth that will simulate road conditions to find squeaks. To commemorate both the production milestone and the Fairfax plant, Batey and company CEO Mary Barra also gave away a 2016 Malibu to a wounded Iraqi war veteran, and the two execs announced that in the third week in May all GM employees can share a one-time customer appreciation discount with friends to help get them into the automaker's products. Barra also gave a speech to the workers there about some of the other milestone's in the company's history, which you can read below. Innovation on the Line: GM Manufacturing Milestones Many of General Motors' most important innovations have occurred behind the scenes, in its manufacturing facilities. Concepts such as changeover, flexible assembly, automation, computer simulation, machine vision and robotics were developed at GM. Over the decades these innovations have helped enable improvements in vehicle quality, efficiency and competitiveness. 1901: Ransom Olds' famous Curved Dash Oldsmobile, designed with simplicity, reliability and value in mind, was the first American car built in a factory designed specifically for automobiles and in standardized volume production. GM acquired Oldsmobile in 1908. 1908: Cadillac wins the Dewar Trophy, Europe's most prestigious award for precision and excellence in manufacturing, by demonstrating the auto industry's highest standards for precision and interchangeability of parts by disassembling three Cadillacs and mixing the parts randomly before reassembling and driving them before a contingent of judges. 1922: GM hires William Knudsen to lead Chevrolet's turnaround. Knudsen implements flexible mass production, which helps Chevrolet incorporate annual styling changes and take market share from Ford.
