1995 Chevrolet Impala SS

Where do I begin...well, let me begin by saying don't buy a toy car without speaking to your wife first...it gets messy!  I have wanted one of these cars since they came out.  I found this one with a bad engine at a good price, so I bought it as a toy to fix up and drive...WELL, my early Christmas present to myself did not go over well with the other half.  I have done an INCREDIBLE ammount of work on the car since buying it, but to bring a sense of peace back to my house; I have decided to sell it.  There is more in the car than I am asking for it...not including my labor...so my loss is your gain.

When I purchased the car, it had spent most of its life in Tennesse, so it is not like many of the rusted out midwest cars you see.  It is a very solid car.  It had a blown engine, so I had to have it transported up to my shop.  That alone was $600, but what I paid for the car initially, it was worth it for a solid rust-free car.  It arrived and I pulled the engine out of the car. When I opened it up, it was clear that it would be cheaper and easier to get another one.  The previous owner had the engine replaced with what they told him was a low mileage LT1, trust me when I say, that was not the case...it was pretty worn out by the time it made it to the car from the looks of things...it easily had over 2 turns on it.  I scouted and found a low mileage LT1 out of an actual Impala SS (not an old squad), with 69,000 miles on it.  I had it shipped to my shop and began the transplant.  In the process, I made sure that things were done correctly...after all I did not have any intentions of selling the car anytime soon.  I replaced vacuum lines, plug wires, oil cooler lines, radiator, plugs, thermostat...etc to make sure it was going to be good for a long time.  I also hooked up a manual oil pressure gauge to it when I put it in the car to verify good PSI...it held 55 at a cold idle and 40-45 at a warm idle.

It runs quiet and smooth with no knocks, ticks, or funny noise.

I have driven the car about 35 miles since completing the work.  It drives nicely and is very 'spirited' for a large car.  I was pleasantly impressed with the performance.  The car is not currently registered or insured, so it has been parked in my garage.  I had to move it out this weekend, that is what prompted me to sell it.  I don't want it to sit outside.  I would like someone to enjoy the car.

I do not have pictures of the interior, but I will take them tonight and post them this evening.

The car is a driver and not a show car.  Paint shines nicely, but it has small door dings to be associated with an everyday driver.  There are a couple of areas to note...these were there when I purchased the car.  It has the original wheels that are not all pitted...no notable curb rash either.  I have 4 brand new Z rated tires.  I mounted 2 on the front when I had it aligned, but the rears on the car are not that old, so I kept the other two as replacement...they will go with the car to make a matched set of 4.  I have tried to take pictures to show the major flaws:

  • There is a ding in the hood just above the passenger headlight...it looks like a large rock ding.
  • There is some faint spider cracking in driver's front bumper with a small paint chip...looks like the previous owner might have bumped something in a parking lot.
  • There is a scuff on the passenger quarter panel...looks like he got too close to something
  • It looks like the roof was re-clear coated at some point as the finish is not perfect, but it shines like it should (trying to disclose everything I am aware of)

Here is what has been done to the car as well as what is included with the sale:

  • Installed replacement LT1 out of an actual Impala SS-69,000 miles
  • Brand new radiator
  • Brand new oil cooler lines
  • 4 brand new "Z" rated tires-2 mounted on the front other two in the trunk (the rear tires on the car don't look that old, so I did not swap them out...tires come with the car)
  • Professionally aligned
  • Transmission serviced with new fluid and filter
  • Rear Differential serviced-fluid changed with limited slip additive
  • New thermostat and coolant
  • New sway bar links
  • New spark plugs and wires
  • New exhaust gaskets
  • Custom exhaust with 'turbo style' mufflers and chrome tips at the rear bumper
  • Includes a car cover
  • Includes a brand new K&N cold air intake, still in the box

Here are the items that still need attention to the best of my knowledge:

  • Needs new hood release cable
  • AC need recharging...I drained it when I replaced the engine and did not re-fill
  • Starter seems weak...it works fine, but every now and then it clicks after sitting...release the key and it cranks the next time...just don't want you to have any surprises
  • Instrument cluster is flaky, sometimes the mileage shows 022,xxx instead of 122,xxx and the oil psi does not read accurately...this is a common issue with the digital dash clusters as I understand it.

I have included quite a bit of information in this listing, but I would rather someone know exactly what they are getting.  I have not owned the car very long and there might be things that I have missed.  I encourage you to come and inspect the car yourself before buying...that is the best way to get any and all questions answered.  I believe what I am asking for the car is very fair...it is less than what is in the car.  I would be open to REASONABLE offers...please don't waste my time or yours with low balling offers.

All of this being said, the car is sold absolutely as is and where is and shown.  There are no guarantees or warranties with the car.  I would accept cash or cashiers check for the balance and require an immediate non-refundable deposit of $500 via paypal at the time of the accepted offer.  I have been burned by people who think winning an auction means they can come out and negotiate the deal.  I am very fair and ask the same.  All sales and accepted offers are final.

Payment in full for the car must be received within 7 days of auction end. If payment in full is not received within 7 days I will re-list it for sale and you will forfeit your deposit.  I would like to have the car picked up within 7 days as well unless other arrangements are made prior to the auction end.  I had to work with shippers to get this car home, so I know that you have to remain flexible. I will work with you and with the shipper within reason.  I am not responsible for any damage on the car after the auction end.  As I indicated earlier in the listing, the car is not currently insured, so you will need to insure it for any damage yourself once the auction is closed.

Cars with the most reckless drivers are full of surprises

Wed, Oct 13 2021

Insurify is a site for comparing auto insurance quotes. Because insurance shoppers need to submit information like the vehicles they're driving and the infractions they've compiled while driving those vehicles, Insurify has quite the database of correlations tying certain models to a habit of breaking certain laws. When the site's data analysts decided to compile a list of the top ten models for reckless driving citations in the decade from 2010 to 2019, the ranking contained a few wild entries. The Dodge Challenger making the countdown will surprise precisely zero people. But the Saturn L200? First, a definition: USLegal.com defines reckless driving as "driving with a willful or wanton disregard for safety. It is the operation of an automobile under such circumstances and in such a manner as to show a willful or reckless disregard of consequences." So this list is a caution about particular drivers more than the cars. For a baseline, according to Insurify data, for any random model, 15 out of 10,000 people who drive that model have picked up one citation for reckless driving. Back to that Challenger, then. No shocker for being here, but it's actually number 10, with 44 out of 10,000 Challenger drivers nabbed for a willful disregard of consequences on the road. That's better than the first surprise entry, the Saturn L200, a sedan only on sale for six years, with the least horsepower on the list, and out of production since 2005. The data set put drivers of GM's extraterrestrial sedan at 45 reckless pilots per 10,000 drivers. There are two pickups on the list, the only modern one being the Ram 1500 at eighth, with a rate of 46 in 10,000. Somehow, drivers of the third-best-selling pickup in the U.S. outrun the overwhelming numerical superiority of the best-selling vehicle in the States, the Ford F-150. The other pickup is the Chevrolet K1500 at number five, with a rate of 56 in 10,000. This is not only the oldest vehicle on the list, it went out of production in 2002, before any other vehicle on the list. Between the trucks, the Volkswagen CC slotted in at seven with 47 in 10,000 reckless driving chits, the Cadillac ATS slipped into sixth with 48 in 10,000.  The top four is a bag of unexpected. The Nissan 370Z is the first hardcore sports car on the list at number four, with 61 in 10,000 Z drivers flaunting their Fairladys in the face of Johnny Law.

Why Cadillac thinks it needs to succeed in Europe to sell cars elsewhere

Tue, 26 Feb 2013

Ward's Auto has taken an interesting look at the renewed focus General Motors is showing towards Cadillac in Europe. Susan Docherty, president and managing director of Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe (pictured), says in order for the luxury brand to thrive in China, it first needs to succeed in the old country. The reason? Chinese buyers look to Europe for cues as to what's deemed worthy of the term "luxury." There are hurdles to the plan, however. In addition to the fact that the EU is flooded with high-end nameplates, GM doesn't necessarily have the distribution network in place to put buyers behind the wheel.
Combine that with persistent economic woes and Cadillac's checkered past marred by a lack of diesel engine options and a bankrupt distributor, and the road ahead for the brand looks like less of an uphill climb and more like a straight-up cliff face. But Docherty is optimistic and says she has a plan for the brand. We recommend heading over to Ward's for a closer look at the full read.

Veyron and C7 Corvette join cast of Transformers 4

Wed, 29 May 2013

Like the Fast & Furious franchise, the Michael Bay-directed series of Transformers movies has become known as much for its bad acting as its impressive lineup of cars. As filming just started for Transformers 4, Bay's website has confirmed two new cars for the next installment as well as a makeover for everyone's favorite tractor trailer hero, Optimus Prime.
Joining the cast of T4 are a "race-inspired" Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse. While Bay's website did not supply names for either car, Bugatti is reporting on its Facebook page that the Veyron will join the Autobots. Speaking of the good guys, top Autobot Optimus Prime is getting an all-new body based on a Western Star with a gaudy appearance that was seemingly inspired by Trick My Truck - right down to the six smoke stacks and side pipes!
