OFFERED FOR SALE IS THIS 1962 CHEVROLET IMPALA 4 DOOR HARD TOP!

THIS CAR IS AN ABSOLUTE GREAT FIND! EVEN THOUGH THE MILEAGE IS PROBABLY IN EXCESS OF 200,000 MILES, IT'S VERY COMPLETE, UN-TAMPERED, AND RUST AND ROT FREE! IT RUNS AND DRIVES. ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN CALIFORNIA, IT SPENT MOST OF IT'S LIFE IN BARSTOW AND HAD BEEN IN STORAGE IN MONTANA UNTIL JUST RECENTLY.

THE CAR RUNS AND DRIVES, BUT THE CARB DOES NEED A KIT. I HAD NEW PLUGS, POINTS, CAP, ROTOR, AND FUEL PUMP INSTALLED. I FIGURED THE BUYER COULD TACKLE THE CARB. THE POWER BRAKES ARE VERY, VERY TOUCHY. THE MUFFLERS ON THE DUAL EXHAUST WERE ABSOLUTELY SHOT, SO I HAD TEST PIPES WELDED IN, BECAUSE IT WAS LESS EXPENSIVE THAN NEW MUFFLERS. THE CAR IS LOUD. ALL THE WINDOWS ROLL UP AND DOWN WITH EASE. THE WINDSHIELD HAS A WIPER TRACKS ON IT, BUT OTHER THAN THE PASSENGER'S WING WINDOW, THERE IS NO BROKEN SOFT RAY TINTED GLASS (THE WING WINDOW ONLY HAS A ROCK CHIP CRACK IN IT). THERE IS NO WASHER SYSTEM FOR THE WINDSHIELD. LOOK AT THE PICTURES OF THE FIREWALL AND THE WIPER CONTROL. THE INTERIOR IS DIRTY AND COULD USE A GOOD CLEANING. I DID A QUICK VACUUMING. THE MAJORITY OF THE WEAR IS ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE (CARPET AND VENT KICK). THE AM RADIO WORKS AND THE SPEAKER SOUNDS GOOD. THE DRIVER'S ARM REST IS WORE OUT. THE FRONT SEAT HAS BEEN RECOVERED AND THERE IS A SPRING POKING THROUGH ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BACK (PICTURED). THE CAR DOES HAVE ALL FOUR ORIGINAL HUBCAPS, ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE, AND JACK/LUG WRENCH (IT IS MISSING THE J-BOLT THAT HOLDS THE JACK AND SPARE TIRE DOWN). THE A/C DOES NOT WORK, BUT I HAVE MOST OF THE PARTS (THE BRACKETS FOR MOUNTING THE COMPRESSOR TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD ARE MISSING). THE TIRES ARE AT AT LEAST 75% LIFE LEFT. THE GENERATOR HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO AN ALTERNATOR (THE UPPER ALTERNATOR BOLT EAR IS BROKEN, BUT A REPLACEMENT ALTERNATOR IS INEXPENSIVE). I HAD THE OIL CHANGED AND IT HAS BEEN CONVERTED TO A SPIN-ON FILTER. THE TITLE IS CLEAN, CLEAR, AND IN MY NAME. THE ENGINE CODE SUFFIX IS "SA" (PICTURED), WHICH ACCORDING TO THE MANUALS, DENOTES A 1962 327cid ENGINE WITH A POWERGLIDE AND AIR CONDITIONING.

HERE IS THE BAD NEWS/GOOD NEWS:

THE HEATER CORE LEAKS AND IT RUINED THE CARPET ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. GOOD NEWS: IT CAN BE FIXED AND THE FLOOR BOARDS ARE SOLID.

SOME MORON CUT THE AIR CONDITIONING HOSES, UN-BOLTED THE COMPRESSOR, AND LOST THE MOUNTING BRACKETS, SO IT DOES NOT WORK. GOOD NEWS: I HAVE THE COMPRESSOR AND THE CUT HOSES.

THE TRUNK LOCK WAS DRILLED AND THE CYLINDER AND EXTENSION ARE GONE (PICTURED). GOOD NEWS: I'M SURE THEY ARE EASY TO FIND.

ONE TAIL LIGHT BULB SOCKET IS BROKEN (PICTURED). GOOD NEWS: GM USED THESE SOCKETS ON MILLIONS OF CARS, SO THEY ARE PLENTIFUL IN THE SALVAGE YARDS.

THE CLOCK DOESN'T WORK. GOOD NEWS: WE HAVE WATCHES AND CELLULAR PHONES WITH CLOCKS.

THE LIGHTER IS MISSING (SOCKET IS STILL IN THE DASH). GOOD NEWS: SMOKING IS NOT GOOD FOR YOU, SO WITHOUT A LIGHTER YOU WON'T BE TEMPTED TO LIGHT UP.

THE POWER STEERING LEAKS. GOOD NEWS: IT ISN'T A LOT AND CAN BE FIXED WITH A NEW HOSE.

THE PASSENGER'S WING WINDOW HAS SMALL CRACK IN IT. GOOD NEWS: IT'S STILL INTACT.

THE GLOVE BOX LINER IS SHOT. GOOD NEWS: IT'S FOLDED CARD STOCK AND MORE THAN LIKELY CAN BE REPRODUCED.

THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR COURTESY DOME LIGHT SWITCH IS ERRATIC. GOOD NEWS: THE PASSENGER'S SIDE WORKS FINE.

THE ENGINE RUNS REALLY, REALLY RICH. GOOD NEWS: A CARB REBUILD WOULD FIX THAT. I'M LEAVING THAT TO THE BUYER.

THE PARKING BRAKE RELEASE HANDLE IS BROKE AND THE PEDAL PAD IS MISSING (PICTURED). GOOD NEWS: I'M PRETTY CERTAIN A SUITABLE REPLACEMENTS COULD BE FOUND.

THE DRIVER'S SUN VISOR MOUNTING BRACKET IS BROKE (PICTURED). GOOD NEWS: IT CAN BE WELDED, GROUND, AND RE-PLATED.

THERE IS A SMALL TEAR IN THE HEADLINER NEAR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE COURTESY LIGHT (PICTURED). GOOD NEWS: IT WILL GO AWAY WHEN THE BUYER INSTALLS THEIR OWN CUSTOM INTERIOR.

THIS IS THE BEST NEWS ABOUT THE CAR: OTHER THAN A VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF SURFACE RUST, THE BODY, FRAME, AND FLOOR PANS ARE SOLID AND RUST FREE.

THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR DOOR HAS SOME VERY MINOR DAMAGE (PICTURED). THERE IS KINK NEAR THE DRIVER'S HEADLIGHTS (PICTURED). THE USUAL PARKING LOT DINGS ARE PRESENT NOTHING DEEP OR SEVERELY CREASED (THE WORST IN THE DRIVER'S REAR QUARTER. PICTURED). THE DOORS, DECK LID, AND HOOD FIT GOOD AND OPERATE WITH EASE AND NO BINDING. ALL THE DOORS CLOSE WITH A RESOUNDING "CA-CHUNK" THE BUMPER LICENSE PLATE PANELS HAVE SOME MINOR "RIPPLING" (PICTURED), THE GRILLE IS REASONABLY STRAIGHT, BUT IT COULD USE SOME MINOR TWEAKING (PICTURED). THE SEATING SURFACES SHOW WEAR, BUT ARE NOT TORN (EXCEPTION: SPRING POKING THROUGH THE BACK. NOTED EARLIER AND PICTURED). THE HEADLINER IS INTACT (ONE SMALL TEAR NOTED EARLIER AND PICTURED). THE CARPET IS A LOSS, AS IT SOAKED UP COOLANT FROM THE LEAKING HEATER CORE AND JUST FLAT DIRTY FROM GROUND IN DIRT. I TRIED TO CLEAN IT, BUT ITS TIME FOR IT TO BE REPLACED, AS THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS THREADBARE. I FIND NO EVIDENCE THAT CAR WAS EVER IN A MAJOR ACCIDENT.

I'VE DONE MY BEST TO PICTURE THE CAR, BUT I'M ONLY ALLOWED 24 PICTURES, SO I LINKED THIS LISTING TO A PORTFOLIO ON PHOTOBUCKET. JUST CUT AND PASTE THIS LINK INTO A BROWSER WINDOW:

GM to build outgoing Silverado and Sierra until late 2019

Tue, Nov 6 2018

As it has done with previous generations, General Motors is keeping the outgoing versions of its 1500 pickups in production despite the arrival of the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and 2019 GMC Sierra. The production of the previous, K2 generation models will begin to be wound down gradually, according to Automotive News, starting with crew cabs "early next year," and double and regular cab models following during "the early second half of next year." The old model trucks will continue to be built into "late 2019" based on market demand, GM's spokesperson Kim Carpenter said. The Chevrolet will go by the name Silverado LD, with the GMC Sierra designation still to be announced. Some of the outgoing models are built by sharing the assembly work between two GM plants. Partially finished Silverado and Sierra double cab bodies are shipped from Fort Wayne, Ind., to Oshawa, Ont., where the trucks are completed, including receiving paint. This eases the workload in Fort Wayne, where production of the new T1 generation trucks started in July 2018. In January, the Silao plant in Mexico will take on the duties of building new generation regular cab and crew cab trucks. Carpenter also said that the "Oshawa shuttle," as the shared production is called, has been very successful. As a result, 60,000 more trucks will be built than what the original production forecast initially called for. GM's latest quarterly profits, disclosed last week to be $1 billion, have been far higher than expected and will result in full-year profits far higher than what had been predicted in light of steel tariffs. GM isn't the only truck maker taking a similar multi-generation approach for 2019. Both the outgoing and redesigned Ram 1500 are in production, with the previous generation being dubbed Ram 1500 Classic. Related Video:

Weekly Recap: Racing legend Jim Hall explains Chevy's futuristic Chaparral concept

Sat, Nov 22 2014

"I said our cars are built to be winners." – Jim Hall Racing legend Jim Hall never thought he'd be a video game consultant, but when Chevrolet asked for his advice to create a futuristic Chaparral for the Vision Gran Turismo series, he was eager to help. He reviewed early sketches and suggested some changes that made it onto the concept, including the addition of a camera that's mounted onto a mast over the cabin to aid the driver. The Chevy Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept was revealed this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show and will be part of a downloadable update for PlayStation 3's Gran Turismo 6 in December. Theoretically, at least, it uses a laser-beam propulsion system and an air-powered generator to produce 900 horsepower in the video game. It's capable of sprinting to 60 miles per hour in 1.5 seconds en route to a top speed of 240 mph. Those gaudy performance specs – even in the virtual world – came at Hall's urging. "I said our cars are built to be winners," Hall told Autoblog on the floor of the Los Angeles show. The 79-year-old drove Lotus racecars in Formula One before launching the successful Chaparral Cars in the 1960s. Like his innovative Can-Am racers, the Vision Gran Turismo project has an eye toward the future. It also introduces the iconic Chaparral name to a new generation of fans, and hopefully, Hall says, gets them excited about engineering and design. "It emulates what we did in the '60s," he said. And what they did back then still resonates. Chaparral Racing and Chevy partnered more than 45 years ago for development work on the composite monocoque chassis, lightweight alloy powertrains, automatic gearboxes and active aerodynamics. "He [Hall] walked right back into this and was able to apply thinkings and learnings," said Clay Dean, General Motors executive director of advanced design. The Chevy Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo concept was created at GM's North Hollywood advanced design studio, and it will be on display at the show through November. Other News and Views Sebastian Vettel joins Ferrari team in 2015 Ferrari confirmed that four-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel will join the Scuderia for the 2015 season, jettisoning Ferrari's current ace, two-time champ Fernando Alonso. Vettel has been F1's most successful driver since Michael Schumacher, though he's struggled to match his previous accomplishments in 2014.

Conquest and controversy conclude the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona [spoilers]

Sun, 26 Jan 2014

If you don't wish to know who won the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona, you should avert your eyes right now. We'll even give you a double-space to skedaddle...
For those of you still with us, the first race in the United SportsCar Championship (USCC) is done, but the discussions about it certainly won't end for a while. Daytona Prototypes claimed the first four overall places, the top spot taken by the No. 5 Action Express Coyote-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi, Sebastien Bourdain and Burt Friselle. The 16th and final caution of the race bunched the field up for an eight-minute sprint to the flag, so the first place getter finished just 1.4 seconds ahead of the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Dallara-Chevrolet Corvette DP driven by Max Angelelli. Third place went to Brian Friselle in the No. 9 Action Express Chevrolet Corvette DP, 20 seconds down. Chevrolet power hasn't taken the overall win since 2003, eleven years later it scores a one-two-three-four. The No. 6 Muscle Milk/Pickett Racing ORECA-Nissan 03 scored fifth place, the top LMP2 finisher.
The Prototype Challenge class win went to the No. 54 CORE Autosport team of Colin Braun, Jon Bennett, Mark Wilkins and James Gue.
