1961 Chevy Impala Original Complete!! on 2040-cars
Laramie, Wyoming, United States

This is a complete original 1961 "Bubble Top" Impala Sport Coupe. It is a 283 4bbl carb powerglide car. Options include : Power steering, power brakes, 2spd wipers, tinted glass, padded dash, push button radio, and rear antenna. Im guessing its one of the most original 1961's left. Ive seen a lot of "basket cases" and a lot of fully restored 61's, but its hard to find an original example such as this. This sat for 20+ years inside a building before I acquired it I guess you could call it a "barn find". The body is original and it appears to have had some body work/ paint work done long ago as you can see a couple different colors that appear to be "spotted in" mainly on the front edge of the hood and front fenders. The floors are solid trunk pan and floor pan both. There is a floor brace that has some rust thru but its not an issue. The front fender brows will need some patching as will both rear 1/4 panels down low. My intention was to repair the rust and "spot" the paint, in those areas only. On the drivers side there is a dent below the gas door but it isn't anything terrible and it has a couple small dings in the hood but for the most part its a VERY nice car. It runs and drives. The transmission shifts very nicely and it goes down the highway just fine BUT I do believe the engine needs a rebuild. It's getting some "blowby" and blueish exhaust smoke as if oil was getting by the piston rings. All the glass is in good shape I believe the windshield has a small chip. The doors all shut nicely and the windows roll up and down. I cant stress how clean this car is, the door jambs are in great shape as is the weather stripping and the wiring looks in amazing condition. Things I have done to it include: all 4 tires are new, professionally rebuilt carb, new water pump, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, new master cylinder, rubber brake hoses and all 4 wheel cylinders, new carpet and package tray. I set the reserve at a price I think is reasonable. If it doesn't sell I plan on tearing into it and getting the engine rebuilt and do the rust repair, so please if you are interested do not wait until the auction ends to make me an offer. I do not plan on relisting it. If the reserve price is met the high bidder will need to send me a $1000 non-refundable deposit due within 48hrs of auctions end. Please if you have questions ask them, if you want more pics ask and I'll get them for you. On May-16-14 at 17:36:22 PDT, seller added the following information: Been asked a few questions about this about what all is and is not working. The in dash clock isn't working, the wipers are not functioning (not sure if tis the switch or the motor) and the radio made a few "crackles" and now, nothing I haven't looked into that either. But ALL gauges including speedometer/odometer work. All lights inside and out. Headlights, tail lights, brake lights, backup lights, turn signals (self cancelling), license plate light, dome lights, and gauge lights are all in perfect working condition. The power steering looks like it has been leaking for awhile but seems to work when reservoir is full. I will try to post a few more pics in the next day or so. Please email with anymore questions and if you'd like to see it in person that can be arranged as well. Thank you |

Weekly Recap: Lincoln Continental serves up the style, Cadillac CT6 delivers the substance in New York
Sat, Apr 4 2015Lincoln and Cadillac grabbed the spotlight this week at the New York Auto Show in a dramatic fashion that evoked the brands' glory days. America's two luxury carmakers went toe-to-toe with their glittering reveals and plans for ambitious expansion. Both were selling their technology, style and the promise of a better future. Cadillac vs. Lincoln. At the Javits Center, 2015 seemed a lot like 1956. Neither company was interested in drawing comparisons with the other, which is fair, and accurate. They're in vastly different places in terms of sales and the pace of their turnarounds, but they hope to reach the same eventual destination at the pinnacle of the luxury-car world. Lincoln used the element of surprise to great effect with the Continental concept. A production version is still at least a year away, and the company was vague on details. Officially, we don't even know if it is front- or rear-wheel drive, though speculation abounds. Who cares? The seats can be adjusted 30 ways! The Continental also showed off a bold chrome grille that will be the new face of Lincoln. The blue bomber also rolled on blinged-out 21-inch polished aluminum wheels, used a 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine and had huge LED head lights with "laser-assisted" high beams. All of this resulted in almost blinding attention. The concept drew rave reviews, stirred controversy with Bentley designers who argued Lincoln ripped them off, and most importantly, pointed a way forward for the newly determined brand that hopes to compete with Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Cadillac and Lexus. View 32 Photos Meanwhile, Cadillac showed the CT6, a finished product that will top its range and is loaded with the best and latest technologies General Motors has at its disposal. With production starting late this year, Cadillac had more specifics at the ready. Engines? Cadillac has a couple V6s and a turbo four for sure. It's working on a hybrid, and has considered a V-Series variant. It's based on a new rear-wheel-drive, aluminum-intensive chassis called Omega, features an advanced collision-mitigation system with automatic braking and has a cabin that's laden with "leathers, exotic woods and carbon fiber." It will be assembled at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck factory and goes on sale next year. At this point, Cadillac is more than willing to talk about every except for the price. The devil was not in the details for Cadillac, as evidenced by the CT6. But it wasn't for Lincoln either.
IIHS: High numbers of drivers treat partially automated cars as fully self-driving
Tue, Oct 11 2022WASHINGTON — Drivers using advanced driver assistance systems like Tesla Autopilot or General Motors Super Cruise often treat their vehicles as fully self-driving despite warnings, a new study has found. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an industry funded group that prods automakers to make safer vehicles, said on Tuesday a survey found regular users of Super Cruise, Nissan/Infiniti ProPILOT Assist and Tesla Autopilot "said they were more likely to perform non-driving-related activities like eating or texting while using their partial automation systems than while driving unassisted." The IIHS study of 600 active users found 53% of Super Cruise, 42% of Autopilot and 12% of ProPILOT Assist owners "said that they were comfortable treating their vehicles as fully self-driving." About 40% of users of Autopilot and Super Cruise — two systems with lockout features for failing to pay attention — reported systems had at some point switched off while they were driving and would not reactivate. "The big-picture message here is that the early adopters of these systems still have a poor understanding of the technologyÂ’s limits," said IIHS President David Harkey. The study comes as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is scrutinizing Autopilot crashes. Since 2016, the NHTSA has opened 37 special investigations involving 18 deaths in crashes involving Tesla vehicles and where systems like Autopilot were suspected of use. Tesla did not respond to requests for comment. Tesla says Autopilot does not make vehicles autonomous and is intended for use with a fully attentive driver who is prepared to take over. GM, which in August said owners could use Super Cruise on 400,000 miles (643,740 km) of North American roads and plans to offer Super Cruise on 22 models by the end of 2023, did not immediately comment. IIHS said advertisements for Super Cruise focus on hands-free capabilities while Autopilot evokes the name used in passenger airplanes and "implies TeslaÂ’s system is more capable than it really is." IIHS in contrast noted ProPILOT Assist "suggests that itÂ’s an assistance feature, rather than a replacement for the driver." NHTSA and automakers say none of the systems make vehicles autonomous. Nissan said its name "is clearly communicating ProPILOT Assist as a system to aid the driver, and it requires hands-on operation.
