Over $100,000 invested in this meticulous restoration of a very solid 59 Impala Sport Coupe.  This was a frame-off job by a well known custom shop in Indianapolis, IN (Paradise Road Rod & Custom).  The goal was to build a resto-mod that doesn't look like one.  They achieved the objective.  Every piece that looked like a modern component (even the 350 RamJet) was modified to look as original as possible.  Let me highlight just some examples:

  • All engine electronics were mounted under the dash.
  • All engine wiring was re-worked to remove plastic shields and replace with original electric cloth wrap.
  • Original deluxe heater box was modified to handle the AC plumbing.  In fact, all AC plumbing was routed to be as inconspicuous as possible.
  • After market power brake booster was modified to look as close as possible to original.
  • The RamJet breather system was custom built to look as close to possible to the canister system available on the 59 RamJet engine.
  • Special rims were used to retain the original 14" wheel covers (over the front disk brakes)
  • Everything in the cabin was Dynamat covered to reduce noice and heat.
  • Installed the Vintage Air 'Monster' cooling fan inside of the original fan shroud.  You can't even see it.  Mounted the controls inside of the now fake voltage regulator
  • Installed aftermarket power window motors and mechanisms with factory switches (if you know this system, you know the aftermarket switches are junk)

I know you'll ask about rust.  We found some small pin holes in the pinch well below the rear glass.  Every hole was welded.  There was surface rust beginning around the rear screw on the drivers side rocker molding.  That metal was removed and replaced.  The floor pans and frame didn't even have pits.

This car is a pleasure to drive.

I've shown the car twice at World of Wheels and once at the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals shows.  She got a first and second at World of Wheels and a 'Gold Certificate' at MCCN.  She also scored a 'Top 20' out of over 3,000 cars at the James Dean Festival in 2012.  She gets attention.

Man surprises girlfriend with C7 Corvette

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

How would you react if someone just showed up at your place of work with a new, 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, complete with all the trimmings? While a lot of us would likely be flipping out over the still rare sports car, it's a fair bet many more of us would be responding like Pattie here, whose boyfriend stopped by her work to show her her new C7.
Speechless and shocked as she seems, she does end up taking it out for a drive, despite claiming she wasn't really outfitted to handle the car's seven-speed manual transmission at the time. From the sound of the video, we got the impression that she knew the car was coming, just not that it was anywhere near ready for delivery. It also, as Pattie says, seems like her boyfriend is more excited about the car than she (which, can we blame him?). Take a look down below for the full video of this C7 Stingray delivery.

2016 Chevy Volt sneak peek at CES

Mon, Jan 5 2015

Here it is, folks – your first real glimpse at the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. The gasoline-electric sedan will officially debut at the Detroit Auto Show next week, but Chevy gave us a sneak peek of its redesigned Volt at a media event in Las Vegas late Sunday, as part of its CES festivities. There isn't a ton to see here, and sorry about the low quality video (and for us not standing front and center during the reveal). But we can clearly see the car's redesigned front fascia – something recently previewed at a fan event in Los Angeles. For another view, check out a high-res photo of the new Volt from our friends at The Verge, here. Chevy even tweeted a photo of the Volt's new nose on its official Volt Twitter account, which you can see below. The automaker didn't divulge any details about its new Volt, but we already know quite a bit. For starters, the Volt will use a new, 1.5-liter gasoline engine and won't require premium fuel. It'll have more EV range and a bigger battery, too. We'll have a whole mess of information when the 2016 Volt is fully revealed in Detroit in about one week's time. In the meantime, here are some more looks at the Volt, courtesy of the Twitterverse. We're so excited about #NextGenVolt we brought it out early at #CES2015! Chevrolet To Oversee Restoring Sinkhole Corvettes

Fri, Feb 14 2014

What Mother Earth devoured, Chevrolet plans to resurrect. The carmaker said Thursday it will oversee restoration of the classic cars swallowed by a huge sinkhole beneath the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky. General Motors Design in Warren, Mich., will manage the painstaking work to repair the eight prize vehicles, the automaker said Thursday. The cars were consumed when the earth opened up early Wednesday beneath a display area when the museum in Bowling Green, Ky., was closed. No injuries were reported. The museum was open Thursday except for the area where the sinkhole occurred. Mark Reuss, GM's head of global product development, said the damaged vehicles rank as "some of the most significant in automotive history." "There can only be one 1-millionth Corvette ever built," he said, referring to one of the damaged cars. "We want to ensure as many of the damaged cars are restored as possible so fans from around the world can enjoy them." Just how the cars will be pulled out of the ground remains to be seen, said museum executive director Wendell Strode. The local fire department estimated the hole is about 40 feet across and 25 to 30 feet deep. The hole opened beneath part of the museum's domed section. "We feel pretty confident that most of the cars can be extracted," Strode said Thursday. "And we hope and believe that with just a little bit of luck, that all eight cars can be extracted and be part of the restoration." Chevrolet spokesman Monte Doran said some of the cars look to be in good shape, while others are buried in rubble. "It will likely be several weeks until we can get the cars out and assessed," he said. The GM Design team has helped restore other historic cars, but the Corvette project looks to be its biggest, he said. "These Corvettes are part of our history, and they want them restored properly," Strode said. "We're thrilled they're doing this." The cars looked like toys as they plunged into the hole, piled in a heap amid dirt and concrete fragments. The museum owns six of the cars while two - a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 Blue Devil - are on loan from General Motors. The other cars damaged were a 1962 black Corvette, a 1984 PPG Pace Car, a 1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette, a 1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette, a 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette and a 2009 white 1.5 Millionth Corvette. Pictures of the sinkhole showed a collapsed section of floor with multiple cars visible inside the hole.
