1984 CHEVROLET CONQUISTA,((((NOT FROM IOWA)))) I MOVED TO IOWA FROM MISSISSIPPI IN 2009, THE CAR CAME WITH ME AND HAS NOT BEEN DRIVEN ON SALTY ROADS AND HAS NO RUST, THE BODY IS SOLID AND TIGHT AND ALL CHROME IS THERE AND GOOD. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY, BRAKE BOOSTER, BLOWER MOTOR AND RIGHT SIDE WINDOW MOTOR. A ROLLER ON THE LEFT SIDE WINDOW TRACK NEEDS REPLACING, WINDOW DOES GO UP AND DOWN JUST FIND AS LONG AS YOU PRESS AGAINST THE GLASS WHEN USING SWITCH, DOOR LOCKS WERE WORKING UNTIL RECENTLY, LEFT SWITCH NEEDS REPLACING, ROLLER AND SWITCH COULD BE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME WHILE THE DOOR PANEL IS OFF, PARTS WOULD BE LESS THAN $20.00 ON EBAY. WHEN IT WAS DRIVEN TO IOWA I CUT THE A/C BELT FOR BETTER MILEAGE, I WAS GOING TO REPLACE IT ,BUT NEVER DID SINCE IT'S SO COOL HERE COMPARED TO MISSISSIPPI. THE 305 ENGINE WAS TAKEN OUT AND REPLACED WITH A 350cu. ENGINE, WHICH WAS REBUILT BEFORE INSTALLING , THE STOCK DISTRIBUTOR WAS REPLACED WITH A MALLORY, THE CARBURETOR WAS REBUILT AND THE SINGLE EXHAUST WAS REPLACED FOR DUAL EXHAUST. THE CAR STARTS AND RUNS GREAT, ALSO I HAVE NEW COOPER 60'S ALL THE WAY AROUND. THE CAR HANDLES GREAT NO SHIMMY OR SHAKE, EVEN WITH NO HANDS THE CAR TRAVELS STRAIGHT, I ALSO HAVE A RUBBER BED MAT THAT GOES WITH THE CAR. THE CAR COULD USE A PAINT JOB, BUT NOT NECESSARY, THE INTERIOR IS IN GREAT SHAPE FOR AN ANTIQUE, BUT THE DASH DOES HAVE A COUPLE OF CRACKS . EBAY GIVES ME 4 FREE PICTURES, BUT IF YOU ARE INTERESTED I HAVE PLENTY PICTURES AND I CAN EMAIL THEM TO YOU ALL"SERIOUS" OFFERS WILL BE CONSIDERED. PLEASE READ MY ADD AND THE QUESTIONS BELOW BEFORE ASKING QUESTIONS, I DON'T MIND ANSWERRING QUESTIONS, BUT SO MANY ARE THE SAME.....THANX I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH EBAYS EMAIL SYSTEM BUT PEOPLE ARE EMAILING ME 2 AND 3 TIMES, IT IS TAKING UP TO 24HRS BEFORE I RECIEVE THEM. How GM engineers are using diaper 'snow' to keep you warm
Thu, Jan 8 2015Testing how snow affects General Motors' vehicles isn't really a problem right now for the company's engineers, but in the dog days of summer the process isn't exactly easy. The only real option is for them to book time at the automaker's climatic wind tunnel. However, a flash of brilliance from an engineer allows snow to be simulated regardless of the temperature outside, and the discovery is all because of his daughter's wet diaper. The realization came to GM Thermal Systems engineer Nicholas Jahn while he was swimming with his daughter and noticed how her diaper ballooned in size in the water. He found out the substance that makes this possible is called sodium polyacrylate. When the material gets wet it grows and forms fluffy flakes that are a close imitation of snow. Best of all, the stuff can be prepared easily any time of the year, and it's reusable. The engineering team uses the material to test the effectiveness of the heating systems of GM's vehicles. They spread the sodium polyacrylate over the inlets at the base of the windshield to obstruct the airflow and then crank the heater. After some time, they can see how much is being sucked into the system and design more efficient systems in the future. See how the process works in the video above and read about the diaper discovery in GM's press release below. Diapers Change Chevy Cruze Winter Warm-up Time GM validation engineer uses diaper material "snow" to reduce frigid drives 2015-01-06 DETROIT – An item commonly found on an infant's changing table is helping General Motors' engineers simulate snow year round, ensuring heating systems in cars like the 2015 Chevrolet Cruze can quickly and efficiently warm its interior. Packed snow can prevent air from entering the inlet panel at the bottom of the windshield, obstructing the flow of air into the heating system and reducing the amount of air it can push out. This can lead to less efficient warming of the car's interior and windshield defrosting. "The last thing anyone wants to do when it's freezing cold out is scrape their windshield," said Nicholas Jahn, GM Vehicle Thermal Systems engineer. "The testing we perform on the Chevrolet Cruze with the diaper material allows us to maximize the car's heating capabilities." Ironically, Jahn stumbled upon his diaper-based testing method in the middle of summer. During a swim with his daughter, he noticed her diaper multiplied in size when it came into contact with water.
2016 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon recalled for opening console lids
Mon, Dec 28 2015The Basics: General Motors is recalling 9,200 examples of the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado with build dates between August 25, 2015 and September 24, 2015, and the 2016 GMC Canyon manufactured from August 28, 2015 to September 24, 2015. In total, 8,763 of these pickups are in the US, and the rest are in Canada or Mexico. The Problem: The console compartment lid could open in a crash, and the items inside the storage compartment might hit occupants during the accident. This fault puts the pickups out of compliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The fix: Dealers will replace the console compartment door latch assembly with an improved part. If you own one: GM has not yet told NHTSA when the repairs for these pickups begin. Related Video: RECALL Subject : Console Door may not Fully Latch/FMVSS 201 Report Receipt Date: DEC 01, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V807000 Component(s): LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES Potential Number of Units Affected: 8,763 All Products Associated with this Recall Vehicle MakeModelModel Year(s) CHEVROLET COLORADO 2016 GMC CANYON 2016 Details Manufacturer: General Motors LLC SUMMARY: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016 Chevrolet Colorado trucks manufactured August 25, 2015 to September 24, 2015, and GMC Canyon trucks manufactured August 28, 2015 to September 24, 2015. The affected vehicles have a console compartment lid latch assembly that may fail to keep the compartment door closed in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 201, "Occupant Protection in Interior Impact." CONSEQUENCE: If the console compartment door does not remain closed in a crash, the contents stored in the console may strike the vehicle occupants, increasing their risk of injury. REMEDY: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the console compartment door latch assembly, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16370. NOTES: Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
Most of the US won't get 2016 Chevy Volt
Tue, Sep 8 2015Every major plug-in vehicle launch in the US has been a patchwork operation, with automakers focusing their initial efforts on targeted locations like California where they expect to sell the most units. Today, we learned that even five years into the plug-in car project, the game remains the same. According to GM, the second-gen Chevy Volt is going to be rolled out in the same manner. In fact, GM is limiting availability of the 2016 model year Volt so much that most of the US will not have access to the car at all. For 39 states, the second-gen Volt will first be available as a 2017 model year vehicle at some point in the spring of 2016. When GM announced the buying process for the new Volt, it made it clear that dealers in California would be the first to place their orders. Hybrid Cars now reports that the first deliveries will be also limited to California and 10 other states that follow the California Air Resourced Board (CARB) rules: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland , Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont. GM spokesman Kevin Kelly told AutoblogGreen that this is all according to plan. "Chevrolet has a shortened model year for the 2016 Chevy Volt that will have a limited distribution network," he said. "The 2016 Volt will be sold in our strongest EREV markets. The 2017 Chevrolet Volt will begin production early this spring and will be available throughout the country." It appears that non-CARB state Volt customers will be able to order their Volts starting October 1, according to documents posted on Hybrid Cars, where we also learn that 2016 Volt production for California started in August, will begin in late October for the other 10 CARB states, and in early 2016 for the rest of the US. Unsurprisingly, dealers outside of the 11 CARB states have been complaining that they can't order the much-anticipated new Volt for their customers just yet. Related Video:
