1980 Chevrolet El Camino - Conquista Edition.  V8 engine, automatic transmission and Factory Air conditioning.  Tilt steering, cruise control and AM-FM Cassette. Factory two tone, white and silver blue.   With dark blue interior.  This El Camino is a one owner car, and was sold new at our Local Chevrolet dealer.  Rust Free and Accident Free Oregon vehicle since new.  The roads are not salted here (because it rarely snows here) so our cars do not rust out.   This El Camino originally came with the 4.4 Liter (267 cubic inch V8 with 125 Horsepower).  The original, and only, owner decided the 4.4 V8 did not have enough power (125 HP).  So, he had a new GM 350 Cubic inch and 290 Horsepower crate motor installed , this was done at 95,000 miles, and the vehicle now has 119,424 actual, one owner miles.  This car has had one high quality repaint done approximately 7 years ago.  The original owner recently passed away at the age of 86, he bought it new when he was 53 years old. Original keys and owner's manual.  We are selling it for his estate.  We have done the following things to get it ready to sell.  We installed 4 New General radial tires (15") on the Alloy wheels.  We had it serviced, safety checked and detailed.  It starts, runs, drives and stops great.  Very smooth at 70 miles per hour.  Excellent service history since new.  The bed had a spray in liner, done by the owner, and a bed mat installed over that. Please see the pictures of the bed and you can see it is not dented or dinged.   Three things are not original to the truck. The engine (and headers)  the AM-FM Pioneeer stereo and the wheels.  Other wise it is original.   Original Oregon title issued in 1980 still in the owner's name.  Clear and clean title.  Minor issues:  The dash pad has some cracking above the front speaker, it is covered up with tape.  Not too noticeable, use as is or replace.    The driver and passenger door window rubbers are starting to crack, they appear to have dried out.  The rest of the rubbers look OK.   So what we have is a Very Nice 1980 Chevrolet El Camino, one owner, with a 350 Crate motor, new tires, ready for its next care taker.  We have been an Ebayer since 2002, with a 100% rating.  We are Al Hutchinson Auto Center, 1800 NW 9th St, Corvallis, Oregon 97330.  We are 85 miles South of the Portland, Oregon airport, and 35 miles North of the Eugene, Oregon Airport. Fly in and drive it home.  Or, we can arrange shipping for you at your expense.  We are Oregon Motor Vehicle dealer # 343, and have been in business since 1977, for over 35 years.  We were recently the Oregon Quality Dealer of the Year (Out of 850 Oregon dealers).   If you have any questions, please call me on my cell phone (541) 740-4140 (I am Al).  Or call our office (541) 753-5944.   Or, email us.  Good Luck bidding.   The El Camino is for sale locally, so the auction could end early, if it is sold.

Meet Alex Archer, the engineer behind GM's power-sliding center console

Sat, Feb 15 2020

In 2009, a GM manager complained to a 59-year-old GM technician about the hassle of retrieving items from a pickup truck bed after driving shifted the cargo. In two days, the tech had come up with the ideas that, ten years later, would debut as the MultiPro tailgate. The engineering teams kept the tailgate secret in part by hiding mock-ups in a locked storage closet in GM's Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren Michigan for two years. A piece in the Detroit Free Press reveals that another storage closet in Warren would play the same role in a different cloak-and-dagger operation, this time for the power-sliding center console in GM's new full-sized SUVs. During a meeting in early 2017, bosses gave the job of the console's creation to 24-year-old design release engineer Alex Archer, just two years out of Stanford University with a degree in engineering and product design.  This time, the catalyst for the feature was an internal GM think tank called co:lab, where employees suggest ideas. Execs gave Archer the task because "They needed someone willing to ask a lot of questions," her 36-month mandate to produce a six-way console that could be a standard cubby or a gaping maw able to swallow four gallon jugs or hide a secret compartment. Clearly, she succeeded. It took Archer and the team nine months to devise a prototype, another six months to get the green light for production. As with the tailgate, the team working on the console grew to include designers, production engineers, and suppliers. Archer, now 26, shepherded the process, and her name is on the patent. "It took a ton of people, I'm just somebody who stuck with it the whole time," she said. GM like her work well enough to produce the "Day in the Life" segment above, five months before the world would hear about the console. Archer's path to engineering was as unlikely as getting the job for the console. She had entered Stanford with plans to be a doctor. But an innovation class during her freshman year, and a sophomore summer spent helping her grandfather rebuild a 1937 MG engine recharted her course. Her grandfather told her, "You know, you could be an engineer for a car company." Consumer reaction to Archer's work won't be far off, the SUVs slated to hit dealerships soon. Meanwhile, she's busy on something that could be just as intense as the console: Restoring a 1955 Packard Clipper in her garage. Head to Freep to check out the story of Archer and the console.
