1971 Chevy / Chevrolet El Camino - Hot Pro Street Rat Rod - Drag Car - 770hp on 2040-cars
Payson, Illinois, United States
A QUICK LOOK - 1971 Chevy El Camino - Straight body / decent paint / good underside - Lots of restoration work done - 770HP / 550TQ 383 stroker (built by Hovis Racing Engines) - Replacement cost of engine alone is $10,900 - 10.5 tire / stock suspension - Clear title / factory VIN tag still in stock location / Vin & title match - Stock glass in front and sides – windows roll up and down - Make a great hard core pro-streeter – maybe do an E-85 conversion? - Relatively easy street conversion (basic lighting / E-85 / exhaust / tires) - Selling for a fraction of investment to build - $20K+ in receipts - Have dyno sheets for the motor - Nice Tig-welded cage (professionally installed) - Was told that owner had $30K+ in the build - Don’t want the big horsepower motor…Sell it and you’ve got a NICE El Camino that you could put any Chevy motor in and just cruise it around. Other than minor street conversion work, doesn’t need anything else. - Street Outlaws candidate??? - A little bit different…..but still all Chevrolet - I like El Caminos (a lot)….If you don’t…..Look at it as a $30,000 Chevelle for a fraction of the money!!!
This car was a long term project that the builder spent a LOT of money on…..Basically he took the car and did any needed restoration work on it, and then painted it Viper Yellow ( I have the paint codes). It does have some chips here and there (see pic’s), but the paint is sharp and the body is very good….as is the underside. It does have a patch in the smugglers hatch, which is very common for these cars. The car is powered by a 770HP 383 stroker that was built by Hovis racing engines. The transmission is a Powerglide and the rearend is a 9-inch with 4:86 gears using a stock suspension setup. The builder and the 2nd owner (buddies / trade deal) never really got to race the car seriously, but it did get some shakedown runs. I bought the car from the creator of Dawson’s demon (The world’s fastest hotrod) The shakedown runs on the car were made by none other than Wild Bill Weckman, who is the owner of the world’s fastest street Corvette On the (3) shakedown runs this Elky ran a best ET of 10.92 @ 123.71MPH There was a pile of money spent to make this Elky what it is today….My price however is a fraction of what it took to build this car. My master plan was to convert it from Methanol to E-85 and street drive it for Sh*ts and giggles, but other commitments are getting in the way. The car is all steel except for the hood. It has a good body and decent paint, with way more horsepower than any street car needs....AND is priced to sell!!!!
It has all of the stock glass in it (except for the rear window is Lexan because of the cage bars)…The factory glass side windows do roll up and down. The dash is fabricated, but they did a really good job and it fits the car well….You could go back to the stock dash if you want though. The stock firewall is behind the aluminum one. The factory VIN tag is still in its stock location and is easily visible…The clear title in my name matches the VIN tag…and the VIN tag matches the title……..I have the clear “title in hand” Cage was professionally installed and is Tig welded (nice work – see pic’s) Car has been stored for a while, so I’m sure it will need some minor tweaking / tuning and a good safety check over.
ELKY IS LOCATED IN QUINCY IL (ZIP CODE 62301), THIS IS THE WEST-CENTRAL PART OF ILLINOIS SOLD AS-IS WITH NO WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED SHIPPING CHARGES / ARRANGEMENTS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Chevrolet Turbo Sprint
Sun, Feb 6 2022Fifteen years ago, I wrote my first-ever automotive article under the name Murilee Martin, and it didn't take me long to start writing about one of my favorite automotive subjects: the junkyard. Before I'd refined my system for documenting discarded vehicles, however, I shot a lot of boneyard photos that never got used. For today's Junkyard Gem, I have four shots from early 2007 of one of the rarest turbocharged machines of the 1980s: the Chevrolet Turbo Sprint. The Chevrolet Sprint was really a rebadged Suzuki Cultus, from the pre-Geo era when General Motors sold the Isuzu Gemini as the Chevrolet Spectrum, the Daewoo LeMans as the Pontiac LeMans and the Toyota Corolla as the Chevrolet Nova (soon enough, the Spectrum became a Geo, and the Nova became the Prizm). The second-generation Cultus appeared in 1988, becoming the Geo Metro on our shores the following year. The Turbo Sprint was available for just the last two years of the Sprint's 1985-1988 American sales run, and it appears that just a couple of thousand were sold; if I'd known at the time just how rare they were, I'd have shot more photos of this one at the now-defunct Hayward Pick Your Part. The turbocharged 993cc three-cylinder produced 70 horsepower, 22 better than the naturally-aspirated version. Since the Turbo Sprint weighed just 1,620 pounds (that's about 500 pounds lighter than a barely more powerful '22 Mitsusbishi Mirage), it was plenty of fun to drive. For 1988, the regular Sprint hatchback cost $6,380 while the Turbo Sprint listed at $8,240 (that's about $15,375 and $19,855 today, respectively). Believe it or not, a Turbo Sprint actually raced in the 24 Hours of Lemons 10 years ago, though it didn't end well. This ad is for the regular Cultus, not the Cultus Turbo, but the screaming guitars sound reasonably turbocharged. For the most part, Chevy Sprint marketing was all about cheap purchase price and stingy fuel economy… at a time when gasoline prices were cratering. Related Video:
Kurt Busch suspended indefinitely after losing appeal
Sun, Feb 22 2015NASCAR has officially suspended Kurt Busch indefinitely after he was found in violation of two specific clauses in the stock racing rulebook, specifically "Actions detrimental to stock car racing" and a "Behavioral Penalty." Earlier in the week, the State of Delaware issued an Order of Protection from Abuse against him after a case detailing alleged domestic violence committed by Busch against his girlfriend, Patricia Driscoll, reached its conclusion. Busch and his legal team have exhausted all of their appeals options, meaning the indefinite suspension is official and final. Busch will not take part in the Daytona 500, which kicks off the 2015 NASCAR season today. Regan Smith will drive the No. 41 Stewart-Haas Chevrolet today at Daytona. It's not yet clear if Busch will face criminal charges over the domestic abuse incident. A Commissioner for Kent County in Delaware found that a "preponderance of evidence" led him to conclude that Busch did indeed commit "an act of domestic violence" against Driscoll, but that is a separate matter from the police investigation into the incident that is now in the hands of the office of the attorney general. NASCAR INDEFINITELY SUSPENDS DRIVER KURT BUSCH Daytona Beach, Fla. (Feb. 20, 2015) -- NASCAR has indefinitely suspended driver Kurt Busch for actions detrimental to stock car racing following the release today of a supplemental disposition setting forth the findings and conclusions that formed the basis for the Family Court of the State of Delaware's decision on Monday to issue an Order of Protection from Abuse against him. Busch, driver of the No. 41 car, was found to be in violation of: • Section 12.1.a: Actions detrimental to stock car racing • Section 12.8: Behavioral Penalty "Given the serious nature of the findings and conclusions made by the Commissioner of the Family Court of the State of Delaware, NASCAR has indefinitely suspended driver Kurt Busch, effective immediately. He will not be allowed to race nor participate in any NASCAR activities until further notice. "Kurt Busch and his Stewart-Haas Racing team are fully aware of our position and why this decision was made. We will continue to respect the process and timetable of the authorities involved." Diesel-powered 2020 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra get big price cuts
Tue, Sep 8 2020General Motors is reducing the price difference between its diesel-powered light-duty pickups and their gasoline-burning counterparts, according to a recent report. As of September 3, 2020, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and the GMC Sierra 1500 benefit from a $1,500 price cut when they're ordered with a turbodiesel under the hood. Enthusiast website GM Authority first reported the news after looking at internal documents sent to dealers across the nation. It wrote the discount applies to in-stock and in-transit units of the Silverado and the Sierra (pictured), and it added dealers will begin receiving amended window stickers on September 8. And, it's not just a quick, easy way for General Motors stores to clear out 2020 inventory. Incoming 2021 models will benefit from it, too. Chevrolet's cheapest diesel-slurping 2020 Silverado, a double-cab LT with two-wheel drive, now starts at $44,000 once a mandatory $1,595 destination charge enters the equation. For context, the same configuration costs $38,795 including destination when it's ordered with the 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, which is the smallest and cheapest engine on the roster. Selecting the more efficient engine option costs buyers $5,205. At the other end of the spectrum, the crew-cab High Country with a standard cargo box and four-wheel drive is now priced at $59,690. Walk a block to the GMC store, and you'll need to spend between $44,470 (double-cab SLE with two-wheel drive) and $61,685 (crew-cab Denali with a regular cargo box and four-wheel drive) for a diesel-powered Sierra. It doesn't sound like either company is making major mechanical changes to the trucks for 2021. Both are powered by a 3.0-liter straight-six Duramax engine, which makes 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission come standard, and four-wheel drive is offered at an extra cost. In its most efficient configuration, the Silverado returns 23 mpg in the city, 33 mpg on the highway, and 27 mpg in a mixed cycle, impressive numbers for a body-on-frmae pickup that's as heavy as it is capable. Ram's diesel-powered 1500 posts EPA estimates of 22, 32, and 26, respectively. Ford pledged the recently-unveiled 14th-generation F-150 will offer a turbodiesel engine, too, but its fuel economy figures are not available yet.
