Thank you for checking out this listing. Please read the following description carefully and ask me any questions before you bid. I tried to cover everything to the best of my knowledge so if I missed on a detail please do not hesitate to ask.

I bought this car four years ago and soon after began a complete restoration. It was nearly complete and mostly in need of attention to its cosmetics. It has its original drivetrain and all the numbers match.  The original data and VIN plates are in place and untouched. I have the gas tank sticker as well as the protect-o-plate and older registrations. I have a copy of the dealer (Hicks Chevrolet in Washington DC) sale invoice as well as a letter from NCRS of the selling dealer that corroborates the former.

The engine was previously rebuilt and upon inspecting the transmission and rear end, I found them to be excellent but I replaced the bearings and seals in the rear axle (3.36) housing as well as those for the transmission. The transmission and rear axle were excellent originals that had never been down, and their restoration was mostly as mentioned with a good cleaning and putting new gaskets and fluids.

The clutch assembly(refaced flywheel, new clutch disc, pressure plate, and throw out bearing) is totally new. The radiator and expansion tank are new with correct dates. I put in a rebuilt voltage regulator; of the correct date. The distributor is original, rebuilt, and has Pertronix kit in place of the points/condenser under the cap. The starter was rebuilt with a major repair kit but I cannot say if it is of a correct date to the car. There is a correct oil filter canister, correct dated alternator, rebuilt steering box as well the rebuilt steering column and a new rag joint. The engine has a correct fan and clutch. The carb is a correct rebuilt 3810 connected to a new fuel pump, hoses and tank to pump line. I put new carb lower gasket, spacer and top gasket as original. All the universal joints were replaced as well as engine and transmission correct mounts.

The car runs clean and strong and has a lot of power. Throughout the restoration I left nothing without attention for reliability and correctness.

The previously untouched gas tank was dropped and the gas tank sheet was removed and saved with other documentation. The tank is excellent and was cleaned and re-used.

The brake calipers (stainless) were cleaned and fitted with new internals; all around. The emergency brake parts are all new. I added power steering using correct and rebuilt parts for pleasurable driving. There are no leaks under the car.

The headlights, stop lights, indicators, interior, flasher and reverse lights, all function as they should. The jack and wrench are in place.

The body was taken off the frame and all exterior and interior trim, and glass, were removed. The paint was stripped down to the bare fiberglass. The surfaces previously unpainted, like the deck lid underside(still has a factory rubber stamped date), and under the door panels, were left with the original factory paint for future reference. The body is all factory original with exception to a rear quarter(passenger side) that was replaced prior to my purchase. The birdcage is great and required little localized repair and I replaced the rocker panel brackets with new units.

I ensured all correct decals and stickers are in place including those on the door jambs.

The exhaust panel has NOS bezels. I strived to use the original correct nuts and bolts everywhere unless the odd one was unavailable. The car was missing the correct stamped steel valve covers. I acquired an original pair and put them in place on the (matching numbers) engine heads.

The frame was mostly covered with surface rust. One small area near the rear axle cross member had a rust hole and that was properly repaired and is not visible. Apart from that the frame is solid and sound. It was stamped by the factory with the car's serial number(please see the pictures). The frame was blasted, primed and painted correct black. Pictures were taken to document this fact. I replaced all the body mount hardware and spacers(as original) as well as all the body mount rear brackets and captivated nuts.

The front A-arms were similarly blasted and new joints, wheel bearings, seals and bushes installed and sub assemblies reinstalled on the car with new springs, new cushions, and shocks. The rear axle and leaf spring(rebuilt original but mistakenly painted black rather than grey as original) assembly was reinstalled with new correct hardware. The rear spindles were rebuilt with new bearings and seals and the arms were fitted with new bushings and hardware.

The detailed engine and transmission were put back on the frame and new tires (5 radial white-walls-the blue you see in the pictures is removable protection to the white walls) were installed on the restored original wheels.  The wheel-tire assemblies were attached in place as well as the gas tank. I put new brake lines and acquired a correct new master cylinder (has the bleed nipples).

The rear crossmember was blasted and repainted the correct semi gloss frame paint and reinstalled with the rear arms rebuilt with new hardware.

A new correct exhaust system was installed using new hangers and bracket (at transmission). It has a new exhaust heat valve on the manifold.

The car was sprayed a thin layer of gel coat and then primed and painted with a two stage paint process. The paint color was matched to the factory original paint on the car. The doors, hood, deck lid, exhaust valence, and hardtop were painted off the car.

The body was dropped back on the frame with all the suspension and drivetrain on. The cleaned and painted bumper brackets, excellent grill, and the bumpers, were all put back on. The bumpers were not re-chromed, as they did not need it, although they have a slight patina that I elected to keep.

I put in a new battery box and battery shield as well as new underbody shields with new rubber in place of the tired originals. The body received all new rubber and the door and window mechanisms were cleaned and serviced for smooth operation. The door hinges were restored with new brass sleeves.

I installed new spark plugs and wires and acquired a correct 202 coil that was missing. All the shielding is in place and I did not re-chrome these; to maintain some originality. New wiring harness under the hood as well as a rear harness were installed. It has correctly cadmium re-plated female hood locks. The wiper motor and washer are excellent with new seals. Similarly the headlight motors are excellent.

The interior received new seat covers from AL-Knoch as well as carpeting, reproduction door panels were kept as they were good. The seat frames were restored and cleaned and the seat rails blasted, repainted and reconditioned. Has new visors. All the correct glass went back on as well as the windshield stainless that was professionally polished. The door lock mechanisms were cleaned and function flawlessly.

The dash pads are correct and excellent as well as the glove box door, new clock and restored dash cluster. In the pictures you may notice the car has the tach with a wrong red-yellow line-that will be corrected in the duration of the listing.

The shifter was rebuilt and a new rubber dust shield was installed. I had a new soft top (al-Knoch) installed; black, per the gas tank sticker, although white would have looked better but I wanted the car to be as close as possible to the way it left the factory. The soft top frame got new rubber. The inside rear view mirror is correct as well as the rear view outside mirror. I put in a new antenna and a lead in cable. All the ground cables are new and in place. the radio works fine with a new speaker installed. The instruments all function properly. The headlight buckets roll up and down as they should.

I acquired new seat belts that were restored with new webbing and correct buckles. They are correctly dated. I did not install these belts to prevent that fresh blue webbing from getting soiled.

The hardtop was completely dismantled and stripped to the bare fiberglass. It was gelled, then primed and finally painted with the rest of the body components. All the stainless was polished and reinstalled. The hardtop rear plexiglass is NOS acquired years ago from GM. The inner trim was painted and has a new headliner in place. New rubber was used throughout as well as new clips as original. Unfortunately the headliner has a small hole, 1/4 inch in diameter.

This is a nice car that needs nothing. Restoration was a labor of affection and cost. I did not skimp on anything on this car. Whoever becomes the new owner will be very happy with it. However, remember it is a 47 year old car, and although renewed extensively, it will need care and attention. I have described it to the best of my recollection. I am not a dealer but an enthusiast that finds more enjoyment working on, rather than driving, these cars.

There are no miles on the restoration. It is priced very reasonably considering that it was a body off and has no miles on the restoration. I am not interested in trades; mainly because I need the space.

The only flaws that I am aware of on the car are (1) a 2.5" exhaust (new) instead of a 2" diameter system. Another flaw is the (2) tank to fuel pump hardline that turned out to be defective which I replaced with a soft fuel line. I have a new hard line that goes with the car. I could not install as I do not have a lift.

You are welcome to bid, but please do so responsibly; making sure you have the funds and that you intend to see the deal through. Once the listing ends the winning bidder must contact me within 24 hours and complete the deposit process. This is a nice, honestly presented car, and will make the next owner proud and happy.

The car is in Escondido California, which is about 30 miles north of San Diego.

You may elect to inspect the car prior to bidding, and you or whoever represents you, are welcome to do so. Please email me to let me know of this step. I also reserve my right to end this listing at any time.

The buyer shall be responsible for the pick up and transport of the car from my location. I have a clear title to my name. The car and title (as well as all documentation) will be released once payment has cleared in my bank account.

Thank you and Good Luck

GM recalling 521,817 cars in two campaigns

Tue, May 12 2015

General Motors is issuing two, separate recalls covering a total of 521,817 vehicles worldwide. The larger campaign covers 468,887 units of the 2011-2012 Chevrolet Malibu. Specifically, 437,045 of these are in the US, and the rest are outside the country. In these sedans, a steel cable that connects the seat belt to the vehicle can fatigue and separate. GM knows of 36 claims about the problem but only one minor injury. According to The Detroit News, this happened when a taxi driver hit his head. To fix things, dealers will replace the "outboard lap mounting bracket," which will move the tensioner rearward. They'll also inspect and if necessary replace the steel cable and lap pretensioner. In the second campaign, 52,930 examples the 2015 Chevy Colorado and 2015 GMC Canyon have seat frame attachment hooks that were installed incorrectly during assembly. GM hasn't received any reports of crashes, injuries, or fatalities about this problem. Dealers will inspect the affected trucks and repair as necessary. GM spokesperson Alan Adler told Autoblog that he didn't yet have a specific date when affected owners would receive official mailings about either of these recalls. GM Statement General Motors is recalling 48,309 2015 model year Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickup trucks in the U.S. because certain seat frame attachment hooks were not properly attached to the vehicle body during assembly. Dealers will inspect the potentially affected seats for proper installation and repair if necessary. GM knows of no crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition. The total vehicle population of the recall is 52,930 including 4,620 vehicles sold in Canada. General Motors is recalling 437,045, 2011-2012 model year Chevrolet Malibus in the U.S. because the flexible steel cable that connects the safety belt to the vehicle can fatigue and separate over time as a result of occupant movement in the seat. Dealers will replace the outboard lap mounting bracket to relocate the tensioner slightly rearward. Dealers will inspect the cable and, if necessary, replace the lap pretensioner. GM knows of 36 claims, no crashes or fatalities and one minor injury reportedly related to the condition. The total vehicle population of the recall is 468,887 including Canada, Mexico and exports.

Zombie cars: A dozen discontinued vehicles people still buy new

Thu, Jan 6 2022

Car models come and go, but as revealed by monthly sales data, once a car is discontinued, it doesn't just disappear instantly. And in the case of some models, vanishing into obscurity can be a slow, tedious process. That's the case with the 12 cars we have here. All of them have been discontinued, but car companies keep racking up "new" sales with them. There are actually more discontinued cars that are still registering new sales than what we decided to include here. We kept this list to the oldest or otherwise most interesting vehicles still being sold as new, including a supercar. We'll run the list in alphabetical order, starting with *drumroll* ... BMW 6 Series: 55 total sales BMW quietly removed the 6 Series from the U.S. market during the 2019 model year. It had been available in three configurations, a hardtop coupe, a convertible and a sleek four-door coupe-like shape.   BMW i8: 18 total sales We've always had a soft spot for the BMW i8, despite the fact that it never quite fit into a particular category. It was sporty, but nowhere near as fast as similarly-priced competitors. It looked very high-tech and boasted a unique carbon fiber chassis design and a plug-in hybrid powertrain, but wasn't really designed for maximum efficiency or maximum performance. Still, the in-betweener was very cool to look at and drive, and 18 buyers took one home over the course of 2021.   Chevy Impala: 750 total sales The Impala represented classic American tastes at a time when American tastes were shifting away from soft-riding sedans with big interior room and trunk space and into higher-riding crossovers. A total of 750 sales were inked last year.   Chrysler 200: 15 total sales The Chrysler 200 was actually a pretty nice sedan, with good looks and decent driving dynamics let down by a lack of roominess, particularly in the back seat. Of course, as we said regarding the Chevy Impala, the number of Americans in the market for sedans is rapidly winding down, and other automakers are following Chrysler's footsteps in canceling their slow-selling four-doors. Even if Chrysler never really found its footing in the ultra-competitive midsize sedan segment, apparently dealerships have a few leftover 2017 200s floating around. And for some reason, 15 buyers decided to sign the dotted line to take one of these aging sedans home last year.

Best cars for snow and ice in 2023 and 2024

Tue, Jan 23 2024

What's the best car for snow? The real answer is "the one with winter tires." What do we mean by that? You could have the finest, most advanced all-wheel-drive system or four-wheel drive in the world, but if you're running all-seasons (the spork of tires), your fancy four-wheeler won't matter much. The odds are, any vehicle on the road running good winter tires will probably perform adequately in slippery, slushy and/or snowy road conditions. (Here's a more complete explanation of why winter tires are totally worth it). In other words, you don't really need any of the cars on this list. With a set of winter tires, countless others will do the job, and even these will be at their best with proper rubber. You can find a variety of winter tires for your car here at Tire Rack. Keep in mind that you will need a full set of four snow tires for safety and performance, no matter what you're driving. The days of your dad putting just two snows on the family truckster to get it moving in a straight line are long gone. Don't get us wrong, getting a car that performs well in snow and ice is still a worthy criteria for car buyers. According to the U.S. Transportation Department, 70% of Americans live in places that get snow and ice. And much of the country has been blasted with arctic air for much of the new year. So let's look at the cars. First, we're highlighting choices for a variety of buyers and price points. Second, we're not just considering snow; we're considering general wintery conditions people will experience driving to work or school. As such, these are all choices with advanced all-wheel-drive systems, usually with "torque-vectoring" systems that not only automatically shunt power front and back, but side to side between the rear axles. Most have extra ground clearance for getting through deep snow, and we prefer those vehicles with more responsive steering, throttles and transmissions that provide a greater sense of vehicle control in slippery conditions.    Acura RDX Read our Acura RDX Review Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system was one of the first to offer torque-vectoring, and besides often being touted for its ability to greatly enhanced dry-road handling, its benefits in the slick stuff can be profound. It's actually surprising that Acura hasn't leaned into this capability further by offering more rugged versions of its vehicles.
