Franchitti, Kanaan, and Dixon prank young IndyCar driver

Fri, May 22 2015

The 20-year-old Sage Karam is a rising star in racing after scoring the 2013 Indy Lights Championship and taking ninth place in the 2014 Indianapolis 500. He's now competing for Chip Ganasi Racing, one of the top teams in the IndyCar Series, and counts this year's pole sitter Scott Dixon and former winner Tony Kanaan as teammates. Of course, being so young and a new member of the squad, some lighthearted hazing is to be expected. Dixon, Kanaan, and three-time Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti decided to play a little prank on Karam. While ostensibly detailing his Chevrolet Camaro, the three joking racecar drivers turned it into the Karamo. Check out the video above to see exactly what that means. After some scary crashes going into this year's event, it's refreshing to watch some cheery things happening at Indy.

Sabine Schmitz to compete in WTCC race at Nurburgring, hopes for rain

Fri, Apr 10 2015

The World Touring Car Championship is set to return to the Nurburgring this year after a 30-year absence. Who better, then, to lead the pack than Sabine Schmitz? One of the most skilled drivers around the Norschleife, 45-year-old Schmitz has been known to compete in the VLN series and in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring (which she's won twice), and regularly drives tourists on hot laps around the Green Hell. Nobody can drive the circuit better than Schmitz when the rain starts to fall, and fall it often does in the German spring, but she'll have a new challenge on her hands when she makes her WTCC debut in a Chevy Cruze for the Munnich Motorsport team for the German round next month. It'll be interesting to see how Sabine does in the race, given that she has no experience with the vehicle she'll be driving, but has immense knowledge of the notoriously difficult track. She'll have the chance to acclimate a little during the WTCC test session at the 'Ring later this month, and hopes to compete in one of the two races – in Morocco or Hungary – before tackling her home track in unfamiliar machinery. 2016 Lamborghini Huracan at the Horse Thief Mile | AutoblogVR

Tue, Sep 13 2016

AutoblogVR returns to the Horse Thief Mile in the Mojave Desert to put the Lamborghini Huracan to the test. It's everything we want a modern supercar to be: Powerful, striking in appearance, and a riot to drive. But does it live up to Lamborghini's unique performance heritage? Senior Editor Greg Migliore reviews the Huracan on Horse Thief's unyielding curves and elevation changes to find out. Meanwhile, Autoblog Editor-in-Chief Mike Austin reviews a different kind of performance car – the Chevy SS at the IndyCar circuit on Detroit's Belle Isle. He's ably assisted by ace driver Simon Pagenaud. You must watch his hot lap! The SS is old-school V8 American muscle wrapped in Australian design and engineering. This AutoblogVR segment also launches on the app Sept. 13, and the teaser follows the Huracan preview above. Each week, new episodes will launch on the AutoblogVR App. We'll preview them here on Autoblog, but for the full immersive experience, head over to the app, which you can download for free from the App store and Google Play. Be sure to try it with a cardboard viewer, too!
