1966 CHEVROLET CORVETTE

California Custom HT Convertible

Originally a 427/390 - Tuxedo Black Corvette

Up for your bidding consideration is this very cool 1966 Chevrolet Corvette California Custom hardtop convertible.  I grew up in California in the sixties and I vividly remember these cars new and how excited I was when I had a chance to see one.  By the 1970's I was a young adult and I watched as the hot rodders customized these mid year Corvettes, sometimes to the extreme.  Now as four decades has passed us by, some of these customs have not aged too well.  However some have... as this one demonstrates.  Originally a L36 427/390 car, it was replaced years ago with a SBC 327.  It has flares expertly done, custom hood, side exhaust, its headlights mounted in the grill and the buckets molded in.  Inside the car, it has custom seat covers and a hurst shifter.  This Corvette is in need of a paint job.  It could also use a set of time period correct aftermarket wheels and possibly some narrower tires in the rear to help the 'vette sit better.  The Corvette drives great, sounds fabulous, shifts easy, brakes well and is fun to drive.  It has been in storage for quite some time but I have been driving it in and around my neighborhoods as of late and I'm impressed.  But before taking it out on an aggressive run or a long trip I would recommend having your mechanic inspect it.

It would be fairly simple and affordable to add a nice paint job and a good looking set of wheels to the Corvette and have a cool and distinctive ride.  Another alternative is to restore it back to its 1966 form.  And although that would be more expensive, todays big block values make this an attractive possibility.  In the final picture you will see all the emblems that go with the car and if you (the winning bidder) do restore the car back to original, you will have all the necessary emblems to apply.  This Corvette has all the indicators that it was once a 427/390... rear sway bar, brass radiator, the fuel line, the redline on the tachometer, the oil pressure gauge, and the 3 small holes (that have been filled in) that held the 427 emblem above the vertical slats on the side fenders.  I have included a picture showing this from inside the engine compartment.

So to restore it to its 1966 original form or to paint it and recondition it to its early 70's state... it's up to you.  Either way this Corvette has trememdous potential.

Please e-mail me with any questions on the Corvette and I will quickly respond.  Also a pre-purchase inspection is available most anytime... just e-mail for an appointment.  Winning bidder is to pay in full WITHIN (3) three days of winning the auction.  Cashiers check (preferred), bank-wire, personal check (must clear first), or cash in person are all acceptable methods for payment.  I will also be available for your transport company or for your trailer for a quick and expedited delivery.  I will also keep the Corvette inside my garage for up to 30 days while shipping or pick up arrangements are being made.

The vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied.  Any descriptions or representation are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type.  It is the responsibility of the buyer to have satisfied himself/herself as to the condition of the vehicle.

Chevy's 6.6-liter Duramax is pretty much all new

Thu, Sep 29 2016

To say there's a heated battle in heavy-duty pickups is an understatement, with Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram constantly trading blows of increased torque, horsepower, and towing capacity. The latest salvo is the revised, more powerful turbo diesel 6.6-liter Duramax V8 in the 2017 Chevy Silverado. It has 910 pound-feet of torque, an increase of 145, putting it nearly level with the Ford Super Duty. Here's a closer look at where those gains come from. How exactly did Chevrolet add all that torque plus 48 horsepower? The automaker essentially took a fine-tooth comb to the entire engine. Chevy says it changed 90 percent of the V8, and the cumulative effect of those small changes adds up to big increases. As you might guess, the turbocharger is updated. The larger unit features electric actuation of the variable nozzle turbine (VNT), and what Chevy calls a double axle cartridge mechanism that separates the VNT moving parts from the housing. That helps with heat performance as well, with a claim that the exhaust side of the turbo can run continuously up to 1,436 degrees Fahrenheit. Helping that cause are six exhaust gaskets made of Inconel - an nickel alloy that contains chromium and iron – and upgraded stainless steel for the exhaust manifold. Despite having the same cast iron cylinder block, albeit with some minor enhancements, the engine has new cylinder heads, pistons, piston pins, connecting rods, and crankshaft, which have all been upgraded to handle 20 percent higher cylinder pressures. Alongside the increase in pressure, Chevrolet also increased the cylinder head's structure with a honeycomb design. The pattern features high-strength aluminum with dual layer water jackets that not only improve strength, but also optimize water flow for better cooling. For 2017, the cylinder head also benefits from integrated plenum that aids the engine in getting more air under heavy loads. The cylinder head isn't the only component to get a minor update, as the pistons have a larger diameter pin for improved oil flow. The same detailed improvements has been bestowed to the humble connecting rods (second in our hearts only to the inanimate carbon rod). The new design has the bolts oriented roughly 45-degrees to the rod instead of parallel. The angle split design, as it's called allows for easier passage through the cylinder.

GM will stop reporting monthly U.S. vehicle sales

Tue, Apr 3 2018

DETROIT — General Motors said on Tuesday it will stop reporting monthly U.S. vehicle sales, saying the 30-day snapshot does not accurately reflect the market, and will instead issue quarterly sales. GM will also no longer report monthly sales in China, its largest market, and Brazil. GM will provide monthly data to the U.S. Federal Reserve, industry associations and government agencies across the globe, but that data is not made public. Analysts and investors rely on monthly U.S. vehicle sales not just to track the performance of individual automakers, but as a barometer of the health of the world's second-largest auto market and as an indicator of consumer confidence in the U.S. economy overall. GM and its Detroit rivals Ford and Fiat Chrysler have relied heavily on sales of high-margin pickup truck and SUV sales to boost profits. GM's total U.S. sales, its second-largest market, are down 3.2 percent for the first two months of 2018, reflecting a 6.8 percent drop in retail sales to individual customers, the company reported last month. GM executives have expressed frustration that comparisons of monthly U.S. sales results among rival automakers are distorted by short-term discount programs, and by differences in strategy for selling vehicles in bulk to rental car fleets. "Thirty days is not enough time to separate real sales trends from short-term fluctuations in a very dynamic, highly competitive market," Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president for sales operations said in a statement. GM's actions could prompt other automakers to also switch to quarterly U.S. sales reports. Major automakers will report March U.S. new vehicle sales on Tuesday. Until the early 1990s, most U.S. automakers released sales results every 10 days. The former Chrysler Corp. stopped reporting sales on a 10-day basis in 1990, and rivals followed suit over the next three years. GM executives are betting that investors will quickly adapt to receiving U.S. sales data every three months, as investors in other retail sectors already have. Retailers such as Walmart report sales on a quarterly basis. Reporting by Joe WhiteRelated Video: Image Credit: Reuters Earnings/Financials Green Buick Cadillac Chevrolet GM GMC US

Which electric cars can charge at a Tesla Supercharger?

Sun, Jul 9 2023

The difference between Tesla charging and non-Tesla charging. Electrify America; Tesla Tesla's advantage has long been its charging technology and Supercharger network. Now, more and more automakers are switching to Tesla's charging tech. But there are a few things non-Tesla drivers need to know about charging at a Tesla station. A lot has hit the news cycle in recent months with regard to electric car drivers and where they can and can't plug in. The key factor in all of that? Whether automakers switched to Tesla's charging standard. More car companies are shifting to Tesla's charging tech in the hopes of boosting their customers' confidence in going electric.  Here's what it boils down to: If you currently drive a Tesla, you can keep charging at Tesla charging locations, which use the company's North American Charging Standard (NACS), which has long served it well. The chargers are thinner, more lightweight and easier to wrangle than other brands.  If you currently drive a non-Tesla EV, you have to charge at a non-Tesla charging station like that of Electrify America or EVgo — which use the Combined Charging System (CCS) — unless you stumble upon a Tesla charger already equipped with the Magic Dock adapter. For years, CCS tech dominated EVs from everyone but Tesla.  Starting next year, if you drive a non-Tesla EV (from the automakers that have announced they'll make the switch), you'll be able to charge at all Supercharger locations with an adapter. And by 2025, EVs from some automakers won't even need an adaptor.  Here's how to charge up, depending on which EV you have:  Ford 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. Tim Levin/Insider Ford was the earliest traditional automaker to team up with Tesla for its charging tech. Current Ford EV owners — those driving a Ford electric vehicle already fitted with a CCS port — will be able to use a Tesla-developed adapter to access Tesla Superchargers starting in the spring. That means that, if you own a Mustang Mach-E or Ford F-150 Lightning, you will need the adapter in order to use a Tesla station come 2024. But Ford will equip its future EVs with the NACS port starting in 2025 — eliminating the need for any adapter. Owners of new Ford EVs will be able to pull into a Supercharger station and juice up, no problem. General Motors Cadillac Lyriq. Cadillac GM will also allow its EV drivers to plug into Tesla stations.
