1957 CHEVROLET CORVETTE

Correct numbers, rare late production 283cid/283hp, fuel injection, four speed, positraction, Bloomington Gold  and NCRS Certified

1957 was considered a magic year for the Corvette with new configuration options setting the stage for both track dominance and the icon status it enjoys today.  First year for the "fuelie", first year for the 4-speed that was available starting in April and the first time a vehicle achieved one horsepower for one cubic inch of displacement via the 283cubic inch/283 horsepower EL engine option.  What makes our offering it so collectible?

First of its kind - our frame-up restored beauty has the newly available options of Rochester fuel injection combined with the 4-speed transmission only available on late '57 builds.  A turning-point car - The 4-speed and hi-lift cam engine option producing the top power of all the road-going 57's.  Less than 715 were built and while it became a favorite on the track - including a win at Sebring - the unintended result is that very few complete examples survive today.  Last of its kind - Many consider the two headlamp Vettes to be the epitome of the early marque production models.  In 1958 the quad headlight design appeared so this late model '57 with its classic design and performance transforming mechanicals make it the last and best of its kind.  When considering a valuable classic; proof of pedigree is key.  This code-correct late production model comes with the most trusted credentials in the land.  After the restoration this vehicle received both Bloomington Gold and NCRS Top Flight certification.  It has been driven very few miles since.

This concours-ready '57, Arizona delivery example has all the attrbutes that make it a must for the serious Corvette collector.  Unbelievable level of restoration, coveted Venetian red, hi-lift cam 283 hp engine, late production Rochester FI, original 4-speed transmission, positraction rear end, radio/AC delete option and trusted certification that confirm what the number codes on it represent.  When comparing the value of this example to other 1957 Vettes; the value is self-evident to one who knows '57 Corvettes and what it takes to bring an original fuelie car up to this level of restoration.  The more you know, the closer you look; the better you will like it.  It can't be duplicated for the price we are asking.

GM Design shows what could have been and what might be

Thu, May 27 2021

We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version.           View this post on Instagram                       A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) It's pretty easy to lose hours in the account, but it's always fascinating to see GM's visions of what could have been and what might be. GM 6.2L V8 claims most powerful light-duty truck engine title

Thu, 12 Sep 2013

General Motors has officially captured the horsepower crown for mainstream pickup trucks with its 6.2-liter V8. The big mill, available in both the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, comes to market with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, handily outdoing its two cross-town competitors, Ram (5.7-liter V8, 395 ponies and 407 lb-ft) and Ford (6.2-liter V8, 411 hp and 434 lb-ft).
The new GM 6.2 will take a bit of an investment, though. Those that want the extra thrust will need to go with either the LTZ or High Country trims from the Chevy, or the SLT and Denali trims from GMC, which are the two highest trim levels for the respective vehicles. Trim levels aside, if you're in the business of towing, GM has you covered. Optioned with the 6.2-liter V8 and the Max Trailering Package, owners will be able to pull 12,000 pounds, a hugely impressive figure.
We still aren't certain as to what sort of economy the new engine will get, but it'll probably be a bad bet for the fuel conscious. As for availability, expect to see the 6.2-liter trucks in showrooms later in the fall.
