Up for auction 1969 Corvair 500 2 door hardtop. This Carvair has only 4546 miles and has not been on the road since 1971. The car was in one family and went to the son after the death of his father. I purchased the car from the son's estate. It is all original except for the gas tank and sending unit that I replaced due to it having junk in the bottom of the tank. I do have the original tank and it will go with the sale of the car if the owner would like it and also the original battery that is in poor shape but very interesting with vented caps (check pictures). I have the original window sticker and protec-o-plate and several other papers from the dealer where the car was purchased.

The car although having such low miles is not without some flaws. It had good storage but not great storage. Both sides of the car had things stacked next to it and  has suffered some dings and chips along both sides. I don't think they should be fixed due to the fact that the car is so original. It has the original tires but they do have flat spots and some cracking and I would not drive any distance on them. It will need the brakes done and a good tune-up. It has a sticky valve that losens up when it is run for a few miniutes and that has been better each time I start it. I'm sure it will be fine with an oil change and run more often. The lifters are quite and make no noise. I have driven it around my driveway and it shifts fine and will be easy to load.

The interior is very good and with more cleaning could be outstanding. The trunk area is also like new. I did not clean the engine compartment as I wanted everyone to see the original condition. The underside is in good shape but does show surface rust but no holes and is very solid. I will say there are quite a few cob webs!

This Corvair is a real time piece and I hope someone that really appreciates original cars will purchase this Corvair. How rare is it to find such a low mileage car espically a Corvair!

I will be happy to answer any questions you might have and strongly encourage you to come and see the car for yourself or have someone look at it for you. The car speaks for itself and I have nothing to hid. I can be reached at 570-460-8395 EST or email at rrutherford@usa.net.

Vehicle is sold as-is and must be removed from my property within 30 days of auction close. I will except as payment personal check, bank check,  bank wire transfer or cash in person. All funds must clear my bank before the vehicle and title are released. I require a non-refundable deposit of $500.00 within 72 hours of auction close, pay-pal ok for deposit. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time as the car is also for sale locally.

Weekly Recap: GM plans massive new paint shop at Chevy Corvette factory

Sat, May 23 2015

General Motors is laying out some serious green to maintain the Chevy Corvette's expansive color palette. The automaker is breaking ground on a new paint shop this summer that's part of a $439-million investment to upgrade the 34-year-old Bowling Green, KY, factory that builds the Stingray. The massive new structure will total 450,000 square feet, nearly half the size of the current 1-million square-foot facility. Construction is expected to take two years and won't impact Corvette production. The upgrades include new robots that save paint and create a better finish, longer, more efficient ovens to bake in the finish, and LED lighting. There's also a dry scrubbing booth technology with a limestone handling system that eliminates waste. GM has invested $135 million in the factory in last four years for the changeover to build the C7 and to relocate its Performance Build Center to Bowling Green. The improvements continue to modernize the Kentucky factory, which has become a tourist attraction in its own right, as more than 56,000 enthusiasts visited it last year. The upgrades are part of a $5.4-billion investment GM confirmed in April that will remake its US footprint in the next three years. The Bowling Green expansion underscores GM's continued commitment to the Corvette, which sold nearly 38,000 copies around the world last year, an eight-year high. "With this major technology investment, we can continue to exceed the expectations of sports car buyers for years to come," North American manufacturing manager Arvin Jones said in a statement. OTHER NEWS & NOTES Takata recall hits 34 million vehicles The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration expanded the Takata airbag recall to an almost unthinkable 34 million vehicles on Tuesday. The recall is part of an agreement reached by the two sides where Takata admitted some of its airbag inflators have a defect, and the deal compels the company to comply with all future regulatory actions and investigations. Takata's airbag inflators were produced with "a propellant that can degrade over time" and lead to ruptures, NHTSA said. Six deaths have been attributed to the flaw worldwide. Investigations conducted by Takata, automakers, and others have not determined the exact cause of the inflator problem, but NHTSA said moisture appears to alter the propellant's chemical structure. It then ignites too rapidly, creates too much pressure that ruptures the inflator, and blasts shards of metal at passengers.

GM recalls 8,500 Chevrolet Malibu models for rear suspension glitch

Mon, 04 Feb 2013

According to a letter from General Motors to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, flaws in the build process of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu have led to the recall of 8,519 cars. Units built between December 6, 2011 and January 15, 2013 may have been assembled with rear suspension cradles that had insufficient torque applied to certain bolts. That out-of-spec assembly could lead to issues ranging from slight noises to a loss of vehicle control.
The problem was first noticed in December of last year by a GM test fleet driver and eventually tracked back to the improperly torqued bolts on the suspension cradle assembled through July 2012 by a supplier located not too far from the Malibu's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly Plant. Since an official NHTSA recall notice has not been issued yet, it isn't clear whether or not Detroit-built Malibus were the only ones affected (the 2013 Malibu is also built at GM's Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas). Dealers will fix the problem by inspecting vehicles for proper torque specs, retightening if not within specs and, in some cases, perform a rear-wheel alignment.

GM faces possible class action lawsuit over 8-speed transmission

Thu, Apr 25 2019

General Motors has been hit with a class-action lawsuit from owners who allege the eight-speed automatic transmission found in several rear-wheel-drive Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC models between the 2015 and 2019 model years has a defect that causes the vehicles to hesitate and jerk when accelerating or slowing down. The lawsuit was posted to ClassAction.org and spotted by GM Authority. Problems with GM's Hydra-Matic 8L90 and 8L45 transmissions have been well-documented on Internet forums and via complaints filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with many reporting damage to their vehicles. The lawsuit was first filed in December in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida but appears to have been transferred recently to New York. Autoblog sought comment from Theodore Leopold, the lead attorney for the plaintiffs. "These transmissions have a common defect," the complaint reads. "Drivers attempting to accelerate or decelerate their cars feel a hesitation, followed by a significant shake, shudder, jerk, clunk, or 'hard shift' when the vehicle's automatic transmission changes gears." The problem also occurs when the vehicles accelerate in a single gear, without shifting, the plaintiffs allege. "Drivers have reported that the shift is sometimes so violent, they feel as though they have been hit by another vehicle." The problem is believed to center on the transmission, torque converter or both. The complaint says it causes undue friction, causing hydraulic systems and gears to function improperly and sometimes leaves metal shavings throughout the transmission, leading to costly repairs and replacement of parts or the entire transmission. It says GM has known about the problems since shortly after it introduced the transmissions, and has issued 13 technical service bulletins, none of which have resolved the problem. GM declined to comment on the lawsuit. The plaintiffs say GM should have warned consumers about the issues and covered repairs under each vehicle's three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. They're seeking statewide classes in at least six states: California, Florida, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma and Texas.
