1965 Corvair Monza Corsa Convertible, Four Speed, Rare Evening Orchid Color on 2040-cars
Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States
Just finished every mile of the Great Race from Maine to Florida! This 1965 Corvair convertible got more attention than any of the 104 vehicles in the 2014 Great Race. This car ran all 2,400 miles of the event and came in 31st overall in competition. And it used less than a quart of oil in 2,500 miles and never ran hot! Ever want an affordable convertible that you can drive anywhere, well here it is.
It is a four speed and four single barrel carbs. This car started life as a Monza but it has had a Corsa dash added and the Monza badges removed. It looks like it was restored in the 1980s and it has held up well. It was not an original Evening Orchid car from the factory, but I was told by the guy I bought it from that it was restored by a well-known Corvair guy. It has some fiberglass repair, but it has obviously held up well. The interior appears to be original, and is usable as is. The passenger seat has pulled apart at the seam about five or six inches long (an easy fix). The car has four new tires (Maxis radials) just before the Great Race, so they have 2,500 miles on them.
Convertible top looks to be four or five years old and in great shape. The plastic window is excellent.
Please know that this is a driver and not a 100-point show car. It has a few scratches, nicks and such as you would except in a car that is nearly 50 years old and was restored 25 years ago. If you want to fly in and drive it home, I will pick you up at the airport. You can drive this car across the country. I can possibly deliver for a fee and a plane ticket home. I encourage you to come look at this car if you are interested before bidding.
Please do not ask the reserve price -- it is very reasonably priced for how reliable the car is. If you have any questions on this great little car, I will be happy to try to answer them as quickly as possible.
I will add trunk and engine compartment photos as soon as possible.

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups
Wed, 05 Dec 2012Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.
Train derailment leaves Jeep, GMC, Chevy pickups damaged in Nevada
Thu, Jul 11 2019An unfortunate train derailment is causing some inevitable delays for pickup truck customers west of Nevada. Yesterday morning, 33 train cars derailed in Lincoln County, and the cargo that was being transported consisted of new Jeep Gladiators and Wranglers along with Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras, judging from the photos released by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The train derailment also caused the adjacent road to be closed, and local law enforcement recommends the area is to be avoided as long as it takes to clean it all up. In the photos, damaged Jeeps and other trucks sit either on their wheels or shiny-side-down as the incident is being assessed. Available information says there were thankfully no personal injuries, but itÂ’s not likely any of these trucks will end up in customer hands, even with a significant discount. Pre-registration transport damage, significant or not, has often resulted in scrapping complete vehicles so that manufacturers can steer clear of liability issues. Hooniverse.com, which also reported on the incident, notes a couple of interesting things. Firstly, the upended Gladiator seems to have a pretty sturdy support structure for its glasshouse, thanks to its new rollbars. Another matter is that the GM trucks, also pictured, wear discreet and temporary transport steel wheels instead of fancier items, perhaps to deter thieves eager to grab a shiny set from trucks on their way to the dealer. Still, itÂ’s a shame these vehicles could never fulfill their hauling purposes in the hands of new owners. Perhaps the manufacturers can at least use the damage for data-gathering purposes. 2013 Chevy COPO Camaro announced with two new engines and manual option
Thu, 07 Mar 2013Chevrolet is following up the 2012 COPO Camaro with another limited run of the drag-strip-ready production car for 2013. Ditching the superchargers, the 2013 COPO Camaro can only be equipped with one of three naturally aspirated V8 engines, and other new features include the option of a manual transmission, new front springs, some minor styling changes and a lower starting price of $86,000. All cars are designed to abide by the rules of the NHRA's Stock Eliminator or Super Stock classifications, depending on in which series buyers wish to enter their Chevrolet Camaro.
Returning for 2013 is the 427-cubic-inch V8 producing 425 horsepower, but the new engines include a 325-hp 350-CID V8 and a 375-hp 396-CID V8. Buyers can select to purchase all three engines, and each will be matched with the sequence number of that car; the track-only COPO cars will not have vehicle identification numbers and can't be registered for street use.
Chevrolet is also offering unique enthusiast-specific options such as a COPO Build Book and the opportunity for owners to help assemble their car's engine at the Chevrolet Performance Build Center in Wixom, MI.
