 1964 Corvair  Van  Series 95
Simple, economical 110 motor runs quiet and smoke free. This van was bought by the seller as a very straight" rust free" body with no motor, Originally owned by Bell Telephone in Utah as a service truck.. Not a Greenbriar which had seats in back. Body was absolutely rest free. Seller operates an automotive rehab shop and put this together to haul auto body parts etc, but found he could not physically sit in the vehicle after completion. Professionally painted ( Base Coat Clear Coat) two years ago with a striking 2009 Corvette color " Sunburst Orange" Over $1000 in paint materials alone. New tires, battery, master cylinder, wheel cylinders, etc. Engine is a very healthy used motor from a locally available Corvair Monza that had been damaged in front. Note the rare 4 speed manual trans replaces the more common 3 speed. Vintage look is greatly enhanced with original Chevy " Rally Sport" wheels with complete set of Beauty Rings and Center Caps. All windows and doors work as they should. Glass is excellent. Ductwork not hooked up for heater, gas gauge shows full all the time (we wish it was true).  New radial  50 series tires look great. Odometer shows 42,000 which feels about right as body feels tight and suspension is solid.
This vehicle would make a" head turning" daily driver for anyone with a hankering for an affordable classic, business related, work vehicle. Interior has reupholstered  bench seat in "like new" condition with new carpet and the  back has had a black rubberized coating sprayed on for easy care.
Should be roadworthy enough for a mechanically inclined individual to drive anywhere but seller really never did use it and it has been parked for two years. Starts and runs well and its simple design is easy to maintain.
Includes a spare parts motor and a nice pile other bits and pieces that seller had collected.  Clean title, note well, this vehicle has never been severely  damaged or wrecked.
You will be pleased with the value of this classic.

When I put the Van up on the hoist to do the pictures underneath I did note a couple of items.
There is an area of the right hand side rocker panel that has been pushed up ( like the van was hung upon a boulder at one time) and it has torn the support sheet metal a bit. The picture looks like it has rusted thru but that is not the case, the metal is just torn a bit. The rocker panel is pushed up a bit as a result.( maybe 3/8 of an inch). You can barely notice the damage if you are not underneath. I also included a picture of the left side which shows what it looks like with no damage.
Also on the bottom of the doors where the drain holes are, there is some surface rust but no perforations that was visible. A new owner should treat these areas with rust proofer to eliminate any further oxidation. This van, according to our sources, sat for 20 years so the underside has normal oxidation. A coat of POR 15 would make it look new.

I am the sellers friend who put this on ebay for him. I am out of town until Tuesday eve the 28th of June so if you have questions you can can call him directly at 1 801 8954. His name is Gene Stevens.

 I am sorry I had a typo for Gene's phone number.  It is 801 808 8954. Thanks

Chevrolet Captiva looks mildly refreshed and ready for family duty

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

We showed you Chevrolet's major debut yesterday, the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible, but General Motors is making a big push for Bowtie consideration in Europe, so it's also introducing the updated Captiva crossover here at the Geneva Motor Show.
While still based on the same platform as North America's fleet-only Captiva Sport (which is effectively a rebadged Saturn Vue), the Captiva is available in both five- and seven-seat iterations, and it looks far more modern. That's particularly the case with this updated model, which features revamped front- and rear ends that include restyled bumpers, grilles and LED taillamps, among other changes.
As before, the midsize Theta-platform CUV will be available in both front- and all-wheel drive, and is expected to carry a range of four- and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. Important US programming note: Chevrolet sources tell us that America's Captiva Sport will not receive these updates.

A conversation with GM's Mark Reuss on MPG, aluminum and Corvettes

Wed, Feb 19 2014

There was plenty to talk about when General Motors hosted its annual mid-December holiday media reception a few months ago. GM had just decided to pull its global Chevrolet brand out of major European markets, where Chevys have competed directly with GM Europe Opel and Vauxhall vehicles, and the US government had sold its last remaining shares of GM stock. But most important was the company's just-reshuffled leadership. Post-bankruptcy CEO Dan Akerson had announced that he would step aside and that 52-year-old Mary Barra would replace him on January 15. Not only would she be the first woman to lead a major automaker, she would also be GM's first engineer CEO since Bob Stempel in the early 1990s. "I look at 2013 and 2014, as the retooling of General Motors" - Mark Reuss Replacing her as executive VP for global product development (and purchasing and supply chain) would be 49-year-old Mark Reuss, who had served a stellar four years as North American president, and elevated to corporate president (from executive VP and CFO) would be 42-year-old Dan Amman. All three are relatively young auto enthusiasts who are liked and respected inside and outside the company, and their collective talents and experience are highly complementary. I've interviewed Barra and found her smart, personable and knowledgeable, though she carefully walks the corporate line in speaking and answering questions. I met and chatted with Ammann for the first time at that holiday reception, and he made a good first impression. But I've known Reuss for some time as a genuinely good guy and a highly capable and inspiring leader, and I believe he is exactly the right person for the global product responsibility once famously held by the outspoken, oft-controversial Bob Lutz. So I jumped at an opportunity to join a group interview of Reuss (with mostly business reporters) at the Detroit Auto Show in January. It was an interesting session of mostly good questions, which he answered with refreshing candor and humor. "I look at 2013 and 2014, as the retooling of General Motors," Reuss said. "We've taken down almost every plant in North America, converted and turned it this last year, and to do that with award-winning vehicles and pretty flawless launches is key. We have to keep the train rolling on great product, because the rest won't happen without the best product, period." A reporter asked whether GM was pushing big trucks, SUVs and Corvettes again because gas is cheap. "No," Reuss said.

GM diesel pickups first to undergo extra EPA, CARB testing

Tue, Sep 29 2015

The effects of Volkswagen's long-running diesel emissions evasion are starting to spill over to other automakers, but General Motors is taking things in stride. The 2.8-liter, four-cylinder Duramax in the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon is the first engine to get extra scrutiny by the Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board, Automotive News reports. Rather than just the usual in-lab test, it's also being checked on the road. However, the extra evaluation shouldn't have any impact on when the trucks with his mill hit dealers later this fall. "We're in our final stages of the EPA certification, and our launch is on track," Chevy spokesperson Otie McKinley tells Autoblog. The four-cylinder diesel in the trucks makes 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the automaker is touting low NOx production. In the announcement for the Colorado's specs, the company calls it "the cleanest diesel truck engine ever produced by General Motors." The tech includes exhaust gas recirculation to lower combustion temperatures and improve emissions. There's also a urea tank like on the bigger diesels for full-size trucks, and it gets refilled in time with oil changes. An indication on the instrument panel lets drivers know when that's needed, too. Even with the more demanding testing, the company doesn't seem too worried about the four-cylinder passing. "Part of our development process is on-road and off-road [laboratory] testing," Scott Yackley, Chevy Trucks assistant chief engineer, said to Automotive News. In the wake of the VW scandal, the EPA has pledged more rigorous testing. Before, on-road emissions evaluations were largely limited to heavy-duty vehicles, but the agency has decided to apply the checks more often to other models. There's also now greater cooperation with Canadian authorities.
