Chevy Volt beats Nissan Leaf again in February

For Chevy, February was a good month for Volt sales. They were up 62.5 percent compared to 2015, as the company locked in 1,126 sales. No one should be surprised, since buyers have a new generation Volt to look at on the lot this year. It was introduced late last year in just 11 states, with the nationwide roll-out not happening until this spring. Nonetheless, GM put the new Volt on sale in the states where it sold the most first-gen Volts, so the sales increase was totally expected. Year-to-date, Volt sales are up 71.8 percent: 2,122 for 2016 vs. 1,235 for January and February of 2015. Over in the Nissan lot, things look pretty much the same. By that I mean both the numbers (steadily down, recently) as well as the car itself. We've had numerous hints about a new Leaf, but nothing confirmed, and that means that fewer and fewer people are interested in the aging first-gen model. By the numbers, Nissan sold 930 Leaf EVs in the US last month, down 22.4 percent from the 1,198 it sold in February 2015. For the first two months of the year, Leaf sales are down 25.7 percent: 1,685 in 2016 compared to 2,268 in 2015. General Motors has released a new short video featuring Kirk Bennion of the Corvette's exterior design team, talking about the challenges of sculpting Chevrolet's new flagship sports car and the five goals the team had to keep in mind as it worked. In the end, Bennion's team had the pleasure of seeing their hard work take center stage as the Corvette captured the world's eyes at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.

MotorWeek's Retro Reviews are always a great glimpse into the cars of yesteryear. However, the newly uploaded look back at the 1984 Chevrolet Corvette is an absolute treasure trove for any auto history buff. This is a full episode of the show from the '80s, and it's dedicated to all of the details about the newest 'Vette to hit the market at the time. Beyond just the usual drive and an in-depth walk around, one of the major highlights here is a brief look at some on the concepts that eventually resulted in the fourth-generation Corvette of 1984. The C4's shape harkens back to sketches from 1978, and there even shots of early clay models that led the way for the design. MotorWeek also takes a tour through the Bowling Green, KY, factory for a detailed inspection of the entire production process. John Davis repeatedly calls the Corvette "the plastic fantastic" during the episode, and he can't find too much negative to say about being behind the wheel of the then-new coupe.
