I purchased this truck in Salem, Oregon at the estate sale on behalf of the original owner. The protecto plate is stamped Capitol Chevrolet in Salem, Oregon and build sheet is charged to Hamby Motors in Hillsboro, Oregon. The truck was built in Fremont, CA. It's safe to say this truck has never been East of the Rockies. Rust free and solid as a rock!
This truck is my daily SO CAL driver. It cruises the San Diego Freeways at 70MPH with ease. It runs with strong oil pressure, cool engine temp, and ice cold AC.
I'm a Naval Officer transferring to DC this month. We rented a place on Capitol Hill with no off street parking, so I'm letting the truck go rather than park it on the street in downtown DC.
The interior, bed, door jams, door sill plates, motor, and under hood all wear original paint. The exterior sheet metal was re-sprayed at some point the original color. The complete interior is original including the seat cover, carpet, headliner, dash pad, etc. All gauges and lights work, even the AM radio sounds great. The complete original jack assembly including the white styrofoam housing is in place next to the jacking and POSI instructions located behind the seat. The spare tire is in place. All the glass is original to the truck with correct date coding including the windshield. The side windows roll up and down effortlessly. The steering and brakes are tight. There is no hesitation when accelerating and the motor idles very smooth. The transfer case shifts smoothly from 2wd to 4wd and the front locking hubs rotate freely.
Turn key ready - my daily driver. It's not restored, yet the truck presents itself extremly well! It's a "Show and Go", and a real pleasure to drive. The entire truck inside and out is original made in USA GM CHEVROLET.
Recent work completed with receipts (last 200 miles):
Powdercoated the rims and added new BFG T/A KO Radials 30x9.50x15. Nubs still on the tires.
AC converted to R134, and complete system serviced and charged. Cooled down to 50 degree during service testing.
New Monroe shocks (dark blue), front end alingnment, and new steering stabalizer (shock).
New fuel pump and belts, both AC and alternator.
Complete tune up and filters, air - fuel - oil, all replaced. All 8 cylinders registered over 110 PSI during testing.
Under 96K original miles on the truck. It's fully documented with complete matching number drive train. Included is the build sheet, protecto plate, owners manual in original jacket, emission control systems manual, and maintenance receipts.
They don't come up like this often. Not many original, clean, low mileage '72 4x4 survivor Cheyennes left. The reserve is very reasonable, this truck will sell and I hope the new owner appreciates it as much as I do. Only selling because of transfer to DC.

Junkyard Gem: 2003 Chevrolet Tracker
Wed, May 22 2024When General Motors created the Geo brand to sell vehicles designed and — in some cases — built by Japanese partners, the first four models were introduced for the 1989 model year: the Metro (Suzuki Cultus), Prizm (Toyota Sprinter), Spectrum (Isuzu Gemini) and Tracker (Suzuki Sidekick). Geo got the axe in 1997, with the Metro, Prizm and Tracker becoming Chevrolets. Of those, the Tracker survived the longest, with U.S.-market sales continuing into 2004. Here's an example of a very late Tracker, found in a North Carolina car graveyard recently. The 1989-1997 first-generation Trackers were based on the Suzuki Sidekick, while the 1998-2004 Trackers had the Suzuki Vitaras (not to be confused with the much grander Grand Vitaras) as their siblings. Production of these trucks for the South American market (as the Chevrolet Vitara) continued in Ecuador all the way through 2014. The Tracker name has also gone onto some versions of the Chevrolet Trax around the world. This one is a base four-door hard top/rear-wheel-drive model, which had an MSRP of $17,330. That's about $29,789 in 2024 dollars. You'll find one in every car. You'll see. The engine is a Suzuki 2.0-liter straight-four rated at 127 horsepower and 134 pound-feet. A five-speed manual was base equipment, but very few American vehicle shoppers wanted three pedals by the middle 2000s. This truck has the Aisin four-speed automatic. We like it loud. It appears that someone associated with this truck graduated from Julius L. Chambers High School last year. In the United States, the Tracker was replaced by the Saturn Vue. If Tracker can handle (unspecified Middle Eastern country), it can survive the jungle back home. Siempre contigo.
2016 Camaro gets most revealing tease yet
Mon, May 11 2015Chevrolet started its long teaser campaign for the 2016 Camaro by just revealing the exhaust manifold and front frame, but as time has passed the company has slowly unveiled more. In the latest glimpse ahead of the pony car's May 16 debut, we're actually getting to see the model's profile completely undisguised. As suggested by the recent tease of the rear and hood, the 2016 Camaro wears a sharper, more angular design than the current model. This is especially the case when you look at the taut lines making up the rear. Chevy claims that the new shape underwent 350 hours of wind tunnel tests to be able to generate left lift, improve cooling and reduce wind noise in the cabin. A smooth underbody pan is among the aerodynamic tweaks, and it runs from underneath the front grille to the center of the Camaro. Chevy asserts that all of the changes at the front help reduce lift by 30 percent. Related VIdeo: 2016 Camaro is all about the Aero Total aerodynamic lift improved by 30 percent for improved stability 2015-05-11 DETROIT – After 350 hours of wind tunnel testing – often 24 hours a day – the new Camaro will slip more easily through the wind, and drivers of the Camaro SS will experience a marked improvement in reduced aerodynamic lift. These changes illustrate the lengths the aerodynamics team went to for improved performance, stability, cooling and lower wind noise intrusion "The importance of aerodynamics increases exponentially as we increase vehicle performance," said Kirk Bennion, Exterior Design manager. "As engine output increases, we need more engine cooling. As acceleration and top speeds climb, we need to reduce lift for better high-speed stability. However, we cannot make any changes at the expense of increasing drag, which can hurt fuel economy. "To balance these different aerodynamic targets, we tested literally hundreds of changes on the new Camaro, millimeters at a time." For example, the initial design called for the lower grille bars to be set at a 20-degree angle to the horizon. However, after meticulous testing, the team improved engine-cooling airflow by 1 percent by shifting the angle to 13 degrees – a change that achieved the airflow target while maintaining the original grille design. And rather than a traditional front air dam to reduce aerodynamic lift, the team developed a flush belly pan that stretches from the front grille to the center of the vehicle.
2016 Green Truck of the Year, Commercial Green Car of the Year finalists
Sat, Oct 24 2015Not only are commercial-grade haulers getting more green love lately, they're getting more different kinds of green love. The 2016 Green Truck of the Year, the second time the award has been handed out, is being decided by judges from Green Car Journal and the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show. This year the award is joined by the new 2016 Commercial Green Car of the Year, which crowns one of the little vans increasingly used by small business as cargo and delivery vehicles. The Green Truck of the Year finalists are the Chevrolet Colorado Duramax (pictured), Ford F-150, GMC Canyon Duramax, Nissan Titan XD, and Toyota Tacoma. The first three of those were on last year's list, but since they are completely new or upgraded for 2016 - Ford with its all-aluminum body, the General Motors twins with the new diesel Duramax engine - they qualify for entry again. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel won last year. The Commercial Green Car finalists are the Chevrolet City Express, Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Metris, Nissan NV200, and Ram ProMaster City. You can read more details in the presser below, and the awards will be announced in San Antonio sometime during the show from November 19-22. San Antonio Auto & Truck Show Announces 2016 Green Truck of the Year and Commercial Green Car of the Year Finalists SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Green Car Journal and the San Antonio Auto & Truck Show have announced finalists for the 2016 Green Truck of the Year™ and 2016 Commercial Green Car of the Year™ awards. The Green Truck of the Year™ nominees are the Chevrolet Colorado Duramax, Ford F-150, GMC Canyon Duramax, Nissan Titan XD, and Toyota Tacoma. Vying for the all-new 2016 Commercial Green Car of the Year™ award are the Chevrolet City Express, Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Metris, Nissan NV200, and Ram ProMaster City. "Over the past few decades, new car models have benefitted from design and technology improvements that have brought higher fuel efficiency and greater levels of environmental compatibility," said Green Car Journal and CarsOfChange.com Editor and Publisher Ron Cogan.
