1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Ss 454 (clone) - Southern Muscle on 2040-cars
Senatobia, Mississippi, United States
Up for auction is an Incredibly Nice 1970 Chevelle SS. I’m selling this 1970 Chevelle SS (Clone) for a friend and it is one incredible Muscle Car, very clean, runs strong and is a reliable driver…..an all around desirable “Top Shelf” head turning ride. I will list all the details as best I can and will offer up my phone number for you to call with any questions you may have. Feel free to call me at 662-560-4609 (leave a message if I don’t pick up) or email me through Ebay and I’ll get back with you. This car was purchased by the current owner in 2007, and was newly built & painted prior to him buying it, and since then he has added vintage A/C added, factory SS dash w/ gauges, steering column, carpet w/ sound barrier, stereo and other miscellaneous improvements. It is a clone SS and from the cowl tag it was originally a V8 car. Title is clear and in hand ready for a sale. VIN #136370R261051 with the firewall info plate having the following info: 70-13637 ST 46029 The outside of the car is very clean. The paint is a hugger orange with the white racing stripes; it has a very good shine and is consistently smooth from front to back. When I gave it a wash, I noticed it had a few very small chips (1/8” in size) at random, which could easily be touched up. The body is one of the straightest ones I’ve seen with even seams all around. The trim, window moldings, grill, light bezels, etc. are all in very good condition. The back & front bumpers are clean, however the front bumper has a few little dents when you look up close (no chrome is chipping, just a few dents). The glass is very clean with the passenger door having a few small chips in it. Again, the body is very solid and straight with all the lines matching up well. Solid steel throughout. All the lights work (parking, hi/low beams, turn signals, breaks, reverse lights, etc.) and while the flasher button exists, the flashers don’t function (goes back to the reliability…..probably not needed). The windshield wipers are in place and functioning. After the washing the car, I noticed the truck seal needs replaced and the side mirror needs tightened. The trunk pan is clean as are the floor pans. The rims are American Racing Special Edition with Kumho ECSTA All Season P275/40R17 on the rear and P235/45R17 on the front. Tires & rims are all in very good condition. Disc brakes on the front & drums on the rear. Now for the interior. Black interior, extremely clean carpet (new as mentioned above), front & back seats, vents, door panels, headliner, dash, glove box, and console w/ working courtesy lights. The items in need of replacing are the dash pad and rear side sail panels (see pics). The dash has all the working gauges and lights up, and the speedometer reading is working however it shows the speed faster than the car is actually going. Really nice Vintage Air A/C system. Pioneer stereo/CD with front speakers mounted by the driver/passenger feet and speaker box in the trunk. Missing are the driver side speaker cover and dome light cover. Seat belts are clean & functioning well. The engine is a 454 Big Block, 4-Barrel Holley with a mild cam. The transmission is a Turbo 400 automatic with the console shifter and it shifts very firm. The rear end is a 12 bolt. The car is a little cold natured, but once it warms up, it idles smoothly with a nice little thump and responds well to the touch. Header exhaust, dual all the way back with a crossover….sounds really nice. I drove it around town and since it’s not my car, I gave it enough fuel to know that it will get it if you want it. Temperature is steady and runs cool. It has power brakes & power steering and drives like it came from the factory. Air shocks with a single stem below the license plate for airing them up. I’m sure there are questions that I haven’t answered, so give me a call or drop me an email. I’ll be happy to take additional pictures and possibly set up a video for you at some time for the serious buyers if you’re unable to come see the car in person. |

GM laying off 500 workers to slow Chevy Sonic production
Sat, Oct 24 2015Due to slow sales of the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, General Motors is cutting a shift at the Orion Township plant that builds the pair. The move lays off about 500 workers, but most of them are expected to get offers to transfer to other factories, Automotive News reports. The move came just a day after GM announced adding 1,200 employees to the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. GM has been trying all year at the Orion Township factory to align production of the Sonic and Verano with their demand. The automaker first attempted idling the plant several times and eventually resorted to laying off about 100 workers. It also reduced the production rate there. With the huge rise in popularity of crossovers, demand for the plant's small cars is on the downturn. According to Automotive News, there's currently a 116-day supply of Sonics and 100 days of Veranos to sell. Delivers tell a similar tale because the Chevy is off 35.2 percent from January to September, and the Buick does little better with a 27.2 percent drop from the same period last year. While the situation at Orion Township might look rough now, big things are on the horizon. Soon, the new Chevy Bolt electric vehicle will be built there when it hits the market around 2017. Plus, the plant will also get a $245-million upgrade and 300 new jobs for another, unannounced vehicle.
Is the skill of rev matching being lost to computers?
Fri, Oct 9 2015If the ability to drive a vehicle equipped with a manual gearbox is becoming a lost art, then the skill of being able to match revs on downshifts is the stuff they would teach at the automotive equivalent of the Shaolin Temple. The usefulness of rev matching in street driving is limited most of the time – aside from sounding cool and impressing your friends. But out on a race track or the occasional fast, windy road, its benefits are abundantly clear. While in motion, the engine speed and wheel speed of a vehicle with a manual transmission are kept in sync when the clutch is engaged (i.e. when the clutch pedal is not being pressed down). However, when changing gear, that mechanical link is severed briefly, and the synchronization between the motor and wheels is broken. When upshifting during acceleration, this isn't much of an issue, as there's typically not a huge disparity between engine speed and wheel speed as a car accelerates. Rev-matching downshifts is the stuff they would teach at the automotive equivalent of the Shaolin Temple. But when slowing down and downshifting – as you might do when approaching a corner at a high rate of speed – that gap of time caused by the disengagement of the clutch from the engine causes the revs to drop. Without bringing up the revs somehow to help the engine speed match the wheel speed in the gear you're about to use, you'll typically get a sudden jolt when re-engaging the clutch as physics brings everything back into sync. That jolt can be a big problem when you're moving along swiftly, causing instability or even a loss of traction, particularly in rear-wheel-drive cars. So the point of rev matching is to blip the throttle simultaneously as you downshift gears in order to bring the engine speed to a closer match with the wheel speed before you re-engage the clutch in that lower gear, in turn providing a much smoother downshift. When braking is thrown in, you get heel-toe downshifting, which involves some dexterity to use all three pedals at the same time with just two feet – clutch in, slow the car while revving, clutch out. However, even if you're aware of heel-toe technique and the basic elements of how to perform a rev match, perfecting it to the point of making it useful can be difficult.
GM recalling 250,000 SUVs over door electronics
Mon, 20 Aug 2012After a door-fire investigation that dates back to February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially announced a recall today that affects around 250,000 General Motors SUVs for a faulty driver's door module. The recall applies to the Buick Rainier, Chevrolet Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7X from the 2006 and 2007 model years, as well as the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT and GMC Envoy XL for vehicles sold and/or registered in the Snow Belt.
Road salt use in these midwestern and northern states can lead to corrosion of the driver's door module on these GMT360 and GMT370 vehicles, which allows water to come in contact with the circuit board. If shorted out, the vehicle's power door locks and power windows will not work, and could possibly lead to overheating and, in some circumstances, a fire. No official word on how many total vehicles caught on fire, but back in June, 28 fires had been reported to the government agency. A fix for the problem is still being worked out, but all affected vehicle owners will be notified by GM.
