Fairfield, Iowa, United States
Awesome 1969 chevelle ss 396 clone project car-- easy to finish-- spent 90% of it life in california, bought new there, has califonia proteco-o-plate. I have had it for two years, and it is my baby. all the hard work done. New 468 Creat 454 big block, broke in but never driven. (bought this engine new ofrom an engine builder on ebay $3200.00 440 hp)New Summint Street/ Strip TH350 auto trans with new 3500 stall converter. Newly balance drive shaft with Brute force u-jionts. everything on the engine is new, polished intake, holley 750 double pumper carb, all new polished brackets, rebuilt power steering pump, cHrome water pump and pulleys, The interrior is excellant- and is still the origonal light gree. I was planning on dying it satin black( SEM makes top quality spray cans ) rather than Buying JUNK repop interrior pieces.( door panels never fit correctly) dying when done right will last forever. Any nothing fits lit the factory parts! all the stainless and trim is excellant except for the two trim pieced below the trunk that have been dented beyond exceptable use. It included a repo SS hood that has has the underside preped and painted- top is in EDP Primer. Also included is origonal hood. All glass is good, al rollup and down as the should, everything works except fuel guage. even the key buzzer still works. The car was all origional and complete whern i purchesed it- never modified or taked apart-- this can has been a true pleasure to work on. All parts like bumoers ( good condition), trim, interrior, moldings (other than below trunk) are included. I alos am including several other new parts purchased for the car- emblemx, weatherstrip, kit, grill (origional one is still good and included). i am also includnid a new low profile polished intake. the intake currently on the car is a taller that most and will require a low profile air cleaner to fit under the hood. I had not decided if I wanted to swap intakes, or run a low air cleaner or possibly modify the hood brace. I will let the new owner decide his or her coures of action on this. The car Startes and moves ad stops ( brake kit fully installed, bleed and functional)- but I has not driven it other than up and down the driveway for operational checks as the allignment needs to be done ASAP, before driving it far, as it has a new front suspension. The car also has a complete new Vinly top installed professionally and all vinyl top trim. The new owner should replace some of the origional pieces with new for show quality look, lie tail light trim, door handles, mirrors, ect. all the origionals are included but the chrome finished has pitted over the years.
this is a great chance to STEAL an origional califirnia NO RUST SS396 Clone for tons less that one that is finished-- ALL the hard stuff is done! feel free to email or call me with any questions-- see my feedback-- I sold over 10 Chevelles, Novas, and Harleys on Ebay over the last 5 years with all happy customers. Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and EV Buyer's Guide: Which one do you want?
Fri, Nov 10 2017If you're shopping for a new vehicle these days, there's a litany of acronyms, buzzwords, and technobabble to further complicate an already difficult decision. But if you're looking at a green powertrain, you have three basic choices to compare: hybrid, plug-in hybrid and "EV" or, electric vehicle. So what are they and which one — if any — is right for you? Research your next new vehicle using Autoblog's Car Finder. Gasoline-Electric Hybrids By now, most people are familiar with the concept of a hybrid car. Thank Toyota's Prius for that. At its most basic, a hybrid vehicle has two powertrains, one gasoline and one electric, which work together for maximum efficiency. At low speeds, the engine can shut off entirely, relying solely on the battery for propulsion. The battery is either charged as you drive by converting kinetic energy into potential energy via a complex regenerative braking system, or directly off of the gas motor. This is a very hands-off, behind-the-scenes system as all the driver has to is put in gas and drive as normal. Hybrids come in all shapes and sizes and, according to the EPA, range in fuel economy from 58 mpg for the Hyundai Ioniq Blue all the way down to 13 mpg for the Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta. Best For: Anyone who want to see their fuel consumption go down without many sacrifices. You can easily find a hybrid sedan, hatchback, crossover, SUV or even a pickup truck (i f you can find one). Best of all, a hybrid requires no special equipment to be installed at home, or added work for the driver. Hybrids do cost more than traditionally-powered competitors, so make sure to compare projected fuel savings with how much extra a hybrid will cost – it may take a surprisingly long time to break even. The EPA provides a handy calculator for this very purpose. Our Favorite Hybrids: 2017 Toyota Prius 2018 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid 2017 Ford Fusion Hybrid Plug-In Hybrids Sometimes referred to as a PHEV, or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, this is a baby-step towards full electrification. Armed with a much larger battery pack than a hybrid, PHEVs can go between 12 ( Mercedes-Benz GLE550e) and 97 ( BMW i3 w/Range Extender) miles on electricity alone depending on the model and your driving style. Like a normal hybrid, the driver is largely unaware of which power source is currently in use, even as they switch over — either because the battery is drained, or the driving circumstances require more power.
The U-2 spy plane needs high-performance cars to help land
Thu, Oct 15 2015Typically, aircraft deploy their landing gear from three main points. Most military aircraft, for example, deploy two gears at the back and one forward, like a tricycle. Some civilian aircraft flip the layout, with two in front and one in back - tail-draggers. The U-2 Dragon Lady is wildly different than any of these. With a 103-foot wingspan but a body that's just 63-feet long, the layout of the U-2 makes a traditional landing setup infeasible. Instead, the U-2 utilizes a pair of wheels, one up front and one in back. With such a bizarre layout, landings are so tough that since the U-2's earliest flights at Area 51, the US Air Force has used high-performance chase cars to guide the pilot down safely. The landing process isn't over there, though. As this video from Sploid shows, balancing out the aircraft to fit the detachable "pogos" – think training wheels for spy planes – is a comical procedure requiring a number of airman using their full body weight to even out the U-2. This video also recaps some of the great vehicles that have served as chase vehicles for this legendary spy plane. They include Chevrolet El Caminos, and the Fox-body Ford Mustangs so favored by the California Highway Patrol. For the last several years, the USAF has utilized products from General Motors, using fourth-generation Chevy Camaros, before switching over to the Pontiac GTO and most recently, the awesome Pontiac G8. It's fair to say that if you're a gearhead in the Air Force, this is the job you want. Check out the video, embedded up top. Ford GT dominates Le Mans qualifying, gets slapped with performance adjustment
Fri, Jun 17 2016Fifty years after Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon drove the Ford GT40 to victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford is poised for a historic return to the Circuit de la Sarthe. The new Ford GT took the top two qualifying positions in the LMGTE Pro class, and four of the top five. Ferrari's 488 filled in the rest of the spots in the top seven, the first two from AF Corse. In other words, we're primed for a reboot of the classic Ford-Ferrari feud at this year's race. Or not, as the ACO, which organizes the 24 Hours of Le Mans, announced sweeping pre-race Balance of Performance (BOP) adjustments this morning that make this year's GT class anybody's race. In LMP1, last year's overall winner Porsche locked up the top two spots with the 919 Hybrid and will lead the entire field at race start. Toyota's two-car factory effort followed with qualifying times 1.004 and 2.170 seconds behind the pole lap. Audi rounds out the manufacturer-backed LMP1 class in fifth and sixth. Full qualifying results can be found here. The storyline for the GT cars is perfect - some say too perfect. Ford's class-leading times came after BOP adjustment to the Corvette Racing C7.R before qualifying. BOP is intended to level the playing field in the class by adjusting power, ballast, and fuel capacity. (Check out this explainer video for more, or even just if you love French accents.) But the process is riddled with unknowns and ripe for accusations of sandbagging. That is, if the Ford cars were intentionally slow in practice they could hope for BOP adjustment to improve their race chances. On the Corvette side, last year's GTE Pro winner went from the top of the field to the bottom, barely improving from practice to qualifying. If you think Le Mans is as rigged at the NBA Playoffs, well, it's not that simple. Because if Ford and Ferrari held back until qualifying - the eighth-place Porsche 911 RSR is three-and-a-half seconds off the class pole time - it was a pretty dumb strategy. This morning, the ACO tried to put things back in order by limiting the boost in the Ford GT's twin-turbo V6 and adding 11 pounds of ballast. Ferrari was also given extra weight but allowed more fuel capacity. The Corvette and Aston Martin teams were both given breaks on their air restrictors, which will allow their engines to make more power. Both Ford and Porsche also received extra fuel capacity.
