Up
for Auction is a 1987 Caprice Estate wagon with 33,000 original miles.
It is a one elderly owner car that was always garaged until recently.
The pictures tell the story and attest to the condition of the car. Has
all options except a power seat and wire wheel hubcaps. The condition
of the car is excellent for the year and the car drives as a 33,000 mile
car should (extremely tight). The interior is in really nice shape and
has not been used to haul construction supplies, kids, or store all ones
worldly possessions. The body is very straight and clean, all
mouldings , wood grain and paint are in really nice shape. The tires
are in nice shape car and there are no flat spots. The engine
compartment is very clean and undercarriage is solid with surface dirt
and no rust..If you missed 1987 and are looking to add a really nice
car to your collection this is it!! There are not many 80's Caprice
wagons left in this condition. The contrast of the Blue paint against
the woodgrain is striking in direct sunlight. The car glows I would
evaluate the car in detail as follows:
1. Excellent Garage kept low mileage original car 2. Body is really straight with one small indentation on the right front fender that can be pushed out without any bodywork, Roof is straight , tailgate is straight. No rust on body 3. The paint has been touched up and freshened in spots. It shines and looks really good even up close. Much better than driver quality and certainly better then the original paint it left the factory with as this color tended to dull right away with GM's paint 4. Wood grain is in really Great shape with a small nick in it here and there but hardly noticeable. It still shines and HAS NOT BEEN over waxed to a point where it is faded It appears at one time in its life the left front fender and door had the woodgrain replaced. It was done with the original material (NOT AFTERMARKET). 5. The Trim is in great shape. There is pitting on the tail light bezels and some pitting on the roof rack chrome. It all shines really nicely and does not take away from the car. 6. The bumpers are in nice shape with the exception of 2 minor imperfections. 1 The right front bumper pad was scraped and the rear bumper is lightly discolored in the passenger side corner on top from the exhaust. 7. Interior is super nice and the nap on the material on the seats and door panels still sparkles in the sun and appears fresh. The carpet is original and in great shape. The floor mats are original GM and had plastic floor mats over them so they are in great shape, The cargo area is really nice and appears to have never carried anything other than groceries. The Third seat appears to have never been used. The side cargo panels are original and have no scrapes. The tailgate inner plastic trim is in great shape with one small scrape and 2 small screw holes where a PBA sign was fastened, The imperfections in the interior are as follows: A. Dash pad has 2 cracks B. A medal was glued to the right clear plastic over the instrument cluster. It clouded the plaitic to the very right C. There are 2 1/8 of an inch burn holes in the drivers seat from a sloppy mechanic. (VERY VERY SMALL. Car does not smell like it was smoked in! ) D. 2 of the strap pull inserts were missing on the drivers door panel. I made 2 with the extra headliner material. Not noticable look at the pictures. E. Missing a cap on the radio knob and a cap on the heater knob F. A piece of carpet in the cargo area behind the rear seat became unglued and now is misplaced 8. Hubcaps have a few minor dents 9. Air conditioning is still R12 and blows warm. 10. Radio does not work. In conclusion this car is in REALLY REALLY NICE SHAPE!!! I am extermly critical in my evaluation but am doing this as pictures tend not to tell the whole story and it is difficult to buy a car online without seeing it in person.. It would not take much to make this a top show winner. It is a garaged low mileage car. I am selling a few cars out of my collection. This is a beautiful looking and driving car. Own a piece of automotive history. Special note: You are welcome to see and drive the car. If you don't live close to this location I welcome any appraisers or professional evaluators. Please feel free to ask any or all questions about the car prior to the end of the sale. If you are not comfortable with buying a car online and might have buyers remorse or are a car flipper and your sale falls through after you buy a car and look for any excuse to negate the sale please enjoy looking at the pictures but PLEASE DO NOT BID on this car!!! I have 100 percent feedback and intend to keep it that way. I have represented this car honestly, objectively and fairly. I want everyone involved in this transaction to be happy at the end of it. GM isn't liable for punitive damages in ignition switch cases
Wed, Nov 20 2019NEW YORK — A federal appeals court said General Motors is not liable for punitive damages over accidents that occurred after its 2009 bankruptcy and involved vehicles it produced earlier, including vehicles with faulty ignition switches. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said on Tuesday that the automaker did not agree to contractually assume liability for punitive damages as part of its federally-backed Chapter 11 reorganization. GM filed for bankruptcy in June 2009, and its best assets were transferred to a new Detroit-based company with the same name. The other assets and many liabilities stayed with "Old GM," which is also known as Motors Liquidation Co. Tuesday's 3-0 decision may help GM reduce its ultimate exposure in nationwide litigation over defective ignition switches in several Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn models. It is also a defeat for drivers involved in post-bankruptcy accidents, including those who collided with older GM vehicles driven by others, as well as their law firms. The ignition switch defect could cause engine stalls and keep airbags from deploying, and has been linked to 124 deaths. A lawyer for the drivers and their law firms did not immediately respond to requests for comment. GM had no comment. Circuit Judge Dennis Jacobs said GM's agreement to acquire assets "free and clear" of most liabilities excused it from punitive damages claims for Old GM's conduct. He also noted that the judge who oversaw the bankruptcy concluded that the new company could not be liable for claims that the "deeply insolvent" Old GM would never have paid. The decision upheld a May 2018 ruling by U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan, who oversees the ignition switch litigation. Drivers have sought a variety of damages in that litigation, including for declining resale values. GM has recalled more than 2.6 million vehicles since 2014 over ignition switch problems. It has also paid more than $2.6 billion in related penalties and settlements, including $900 million to settle a U.S. Department of Justice criminal case. The case is In re: Motors Liquidation Co, 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, No. 18-1940. Government/Legal Chevrolet Pontiac Saturn Safety gm ignition switch
