The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is the highlight of the most sought after production year of all of the Chevrolet muscle cars. In 1969, Chevrolet raised the performance bar by equipping the Camaro with the optional 396 V8 powerhouse, and the big V8 quickly became a favorite at local drag strips. It was the pinnacle year for the Camaro, and this factory correct RS/SS example is without a doubt one of the most desirable 1969 Camaros ever produced.
This RS/SS is one of the rare surviving Camaros that did not require a complete restoration, and only a heavy detailing and mechanical freshening was needed to bring it back to the outstanding condition shown today. The car is simply stunning, It is presented in the highly desirable color of Hugger Orange with the unrestored, original black vinyl top. It sports all the correct options listed on the trim tag including the AM/FM radio, and black deluxe interior.
If you bought a Camaro in 1969, you wanted one with the 325 horsepower 396 cid engine, four-barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, Turbo 400 three-speed automatic transmission, and the original factory twelve bolt rear-end, just like this car, with an accurately restored engine bay and chassis. The entire drivetrain was recently disassembled and overhauled, retaining all possible original components, and the car is spectacularly fast and smooth.
Jump inside, and you’ll see that the options include power steering, power front disk brakes, hide-away headlamps, and an AM/FM stereo. Out back, the chambered exhaust with polished tips, 14x7-inch SS wheels and updated radial tires give the car a performance attitude. All of the glass, including the windshield is factory “Safety Plate” LOF marked and date coded. The black deluxe interior is largely original and includes the deluxe seating, pads, door panels, dash pad, SS steering wheel and carpet. The engine compartment and the trunk are both highly detailed, correct in appearance, and ready for any car show or just cruising. The underside is also nicely detailed with a new fuel tank, sending unit and lines, new rotors, all brake lines, and a complete new front and rear suspension and steering components.
This is a wonderful example of a desirable Camaro RS/SS with the options that make it not only visually stimulating, but also able to run with the best muscle cars of the era.

Chevy Cruze CNG available from Crazy Diamond Performance
Thu, Aug 7 2014Anyone out there who can somehow find a second way to link Pink Floyd to natural gas vehicles gets a prize. Because so far, we have one Michigan-based company called Crazy Diamond Performance (Shine On You Crazy Diamond being a longtime Floyd fave) that's setting out to convert Chevrolet Cruze vehicles to run on compressed natural gas (CNG). All in the name of cheaper fuel and domestic security, of course. Crazy Diamond says it can offer a converted CNG-powered Chevy Cruze for a price as low as $26,000. That four-cylinder version has 130 horsepower and an 8.5-gasoline-gallon-equivalent capacity that provides a full-tank range of as many as 250 miles. Pony up another $2,000 or so and the peppier, turbocharged CNG Cruze can be yours. The company says it will provide a 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and is trying to get EPA certification for its conversions. The selling points are cheaper fuel (CNG is about half the cost of regular gasoline in some parts of the country) and homeland security (CNG reduces dependence on foreign oil). The only production passenger vehicle CNG in the US is the Honda Civic CNG, which sells in very limited numbers. Check out Crazy Diamond's flyer here. GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible
Wed, Aug 1 2018The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else?
