THIS TRUCK AT FIRST GLANCE MAY APPEAR TO BE ANOTHER GENERIC '80'S GM PICKUP, BUT IT'S NOT. RARE CANADIAN BUILT TRUCK WITH FACTORY MUNCIE FOUR SPEED. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW ONE WITH THE FACTORY FOUR SPEED? 1984 WAS THE FIRST YEAR THAT THE FOUR SPEED WAS AVAILABLE AS AN OPTION.  1984 WAS A MILESTONE YEAR FOR THE CHEVROLET TRUCK DIVISION. THE DESIGN DEPARTMENT HAD BEEN WORKING SINCE 1973 TO REFINE THE THIRD GENERATION TRUCK, AND THE 1984-1987 MODELS REPRESENT THE VERY BEST OF THIS GENERATION. CHEVROLET UNDERSTOOD THAT SINCE 1967, THE PICKUP TRUCK WAS GRADUALLY BECOMING AMERICA'S EVERY DAY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION. MORE AND MORE CONSUMERS WERE TRADING OFF THEIR CARS AND BUYING PICK UP TRUCKS, AND THEY RESPONDED WITH A WORK OF ART ON FOUR WHEELS. THIS IS A 1984 CHEVROLET C10 STEPSIDE TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. MILDLY BUILT SMALL BLOCK ENGINE. CLEAN, SOLID, DRIVER QUALITY TRUCK. PLEASE VIEW THE PHOTOBUCKET FILE OF PHOTOS, AS WELL AS THE AD PHOTOS AND THE TEXT IN THE AD. THIS TRUCK IS PRICED TO SELL, AND IT WON'T LAST LONG.

The Chevrolet C series trucks were built from 1960-1999. That is a 39 year production run. The C series was finally replaced by the Silverado in 1999. Chevrolet has been at the forefront of design and performance since the beginning. The 1960 model year introduced a new body style of light pick-up truck that featured many firsts. Most important of these were a drop-center ladder frame, allowing the cab to sit lower, and independent front suspension, giving an almost car-like ride in a truck. Also new for 1960 was a new labeling system for trucks made by GM. Gone were the 3100,3200, and 3600 designations. The Chevrolet was now a C series in two wheel drive and K in four wheel drive. The original C10 emblem on the 1960 version escalated to the C1500 as the generations developed.

A new, more modern look came in 1967, along with a new nickname: "Action Line". It was with this revision of the C/K truck that General Motors expanded the option list of comfort and convenience items to a vehicle line that had previously been for work purposes alone. This has been referred to as the Golden Age of Chevy Trucks. 1967 was the beginning of the nation's true love affair with trucks. It was no longer necessary to own both a car for recreation and a pickup for work. It was now possible to order any comfort and convenience option on the pickup. One vehicle now performed the duties of two! Finally, with the third generation platform, Chevrolet satisfied the needs of the progressive truck owners.

An all-new clean sheet redesign of General Motors' Chevrolet and GMC brand C/K-Series pickups debuted in mid-1972 for the 1973 model year. Development of the new third-generation trucks began in 1968 with vehicle components undergoing simulated testing on computers before the first prototype pickups were even built for real world testing. The redesign was completely unique in appearance at the time, particularly the cab, departing from typical American pickup truck designs of the era. Although revolutionary in 1973, by the mid eighties Chevrolet engineers realized a complete new redesign would be crucial. In 1984, Chevy made changes to the front end of the truck, the only major area of change in 15 years of production. Quadruple headlights were made optional. As stated previously, 1984 was also the first year the Muncie four speed transmission was made available. The design of the truck began to emphasize styling. These changes paved the way for the release of the revolutionary generation four model, known as the GMT400 platform. There was a seamless transition between the 3rd-generation and 4th-generation GM trucks, and the buying public realized this immediately. It is a success story that has transcended time, will continue beyond 2014.

The solid Southern body has been refinished in Dark Royal Blue paint. This is not a 100 point show truck. The finish is smooth and uniform, buffed to a decent gloss. Keep in mind that this is older paint that has some patina from age. Some minor body work has been done in a few areas. The very bottom area near the body lips on the cab corners. Also, there is a spot on the roof, on the rear driver's side that was slightly damaged and has been worked. There are photos in the Photo Bucket file displaying the issues. There are some minor driving chips and scratches that have been touched up. However, the body is rock solid.  Dual chrome sport mirrors. Tasteful pin striping has been applied on the doors and tail gate. Glass is in good shape all around. Bumpers are original and in good condition. Remaining trim and bright work  also in good condition. Sliding rear window. Weld style polished wheels. Falken ZIEX radial tires, P265/70R16. Oak bed in good shape. Tail gate opens and closes easily. Grille is in good shape.

Next-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra may use carbon fiber

Thu, Dec 7 2017

It's been generally accepted that the next generation of full-size GM trucks will use some sort of strong, lightweight material for the beds while retaining steel for the cab. While aluminum seems like the most obvious choice, according to Automotive News, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will incorporate both aluminum and carbon fiber in their beds. The publication cites sources from within GM, though it seems the introduction of this comparatively exotic material mix is still a few years off. While carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, it takes significantly more time and money to produce, essentially relegating the material to small-volume cars. The main benefit for trucks is the resulting reduction in weight to improve fuel economy without sacrificing the tough, rugged capabilities truck buyers expect. The Ford F-150 made the switch to aluminum for the 2015 model year and it's proved highly successful. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the competition followed suit. Automotive News says that the next-gen trucks will launch with aluminum beds and that it will take a couple of years before we'll see any carbon fiber incorporated into the design. Even then, only look for the composite material on higher-trim models, with a trickle down to lower-spec trucks possible further in the future. In 2011, GM announced it was working with Japan-based Teijin Limited on a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic. There's a good chance that material's introduction will be on trucks. Sunday Drive: A tale of old favorites and upcoming challengers

Sun, Oct 8 2017

Sedans and crossovers dominated the attention of our readers last week, led by the completely redesigned 2018 Honda Accord. It's the Japanese automaker's flagship, and people are seriously interested in finding out how good the latest Accord is. So interested, in fact, that no other single story came close to the brand-new Accord in Autoblog reader interest. Moving down the list we find the equally new 2018 Buick Enclave. The three-row crossover has a lot to offer a family, especially one looking for a nice, quiet ride. If you're looking for the exact opposite of nice and quiet, but still want enough room for you and your significant others, the Subaru WRX that we tested last week may be the perfect ride for you. Or, if you just want to drive fast and aren't at all worried about space, there's the Camaro SS. See? We offer something for everybody. From there, we look to the future. Who isn't interested in seeing the first fully electric vehicle from Porsche? And who isn't intrigued to see the Mission E testing alongside a gaggle of Teslas? A brand-new Jeep is always a big deal, especially when it's the revival of a classic nameplate like the Grand Wagoneer. And finally, we have something completely different: the Rezvani Tank. As always, tune in to Autoblog next week for a front-row seat to all the happenings worth following in the automotive industry. 2018 Honda Accord First Drive | Feels like home again 2018 Buick Enclave First Drive Review | Fortress of quietude 2018 Subaru WRX Drivers' Notes | Turbo traditionalist 2018 Chevy Camaro SS Drivers' Notes | Demonstrative power, middling interior Porsche Mission E caught testing against Teslas Jeep three-row SUV caught on public roads — Grand Wagoneer, perhaps? 8 cars we're most looking forward to driving in 2015

Mon, Jan 5 2015

Now that 2014 is officially in the books, it's time to look ahead. And following our list of the cars we liked best last year, we're now setting our sights at the hot new metal that's coming our way in 2015. Some of these, we've already seen. And some are still set to debut during the 2015 auto show season. But these are the machines that keep us going – the things on the horizon that we're particularly stoked to drive, and drive hard. Jeep Renegade Not the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Not the Ford Mustang GT350. Not the new John Cooper Works Mini. Nope, I'm looking forward to the adorable, trail-rated Jeep Renegade. And that's because I really, really, really like our long-term Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. I do not, however, care too much for the Cherokee's looks, and I really don't like its $38,059 price tag. The Renegade Trailhawk, meanwhile, promises much of the same rough-and-tumble character as its big brother, but at what we expect will be a more reasonable price (I'm personally wagering on the baby Jeep's off-road model starting at no more than $23,000). With a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a nine-speed automatic, it should also be a bit easier to fill than the V6-powered Cherokee. Also, I can't help but love the way the Renegade looks. It's like someone took a Wrangler, squished it by 50 percent and then handed it off to George Clinton for a healthy dose of funk. The interior, with its bright, expressive trims and color schemes should also be a really nice place to spend some time. I'll be attending the Renegade's launch later this month, so I'll have a much shorter wait than my colleagues. Here's hoping the baby Jeep lives up to my expectations. – Brandon Turkus Associate Editor Mazda MX-5 Miata Here's an uncomfortable truth: I'd rather spend a day driving a properly sorted Mazda MX-5 Miata of any generation on a winding road than I would nearly any other vehicle, regardless of power, price or prestige. It's not just that I prize top-down driving and enjoy the Miata's small size because it gives me more road to play with. I just find there's more motoring joy to be had with high-fidelity handling and an uncorrupted car-to-driver communication loop than I do with face-distorting power or grip – let alone valet-stand gravitas. But perhaps most of all, I love Miatas because they can deliver that level of feedback and driver reward at modest speeds that won't put the locals on edge or endanger lives – you can use more of the car more of the time.
